I''''m soon to graduate from a MPH program and the job outlook is bleak. I''''m trying to expand my search and came across Wellness Consulting which appears to be up my alley in terms of health promotion and intervention programs designed for corporate environments.

Does the board have any experience with this? Any corporate (or non-corporate) wellness consultants out there?
What type of experience is required? Is it mostly consulting companies or do corporations hire directly?

Bleh posted in wrong forum. Msg''d admins to move. Thx

Whatever you do, and I speak from personal experience, DO NOT get involved with any companies - - and there are several - - which use multi-level marketing as their method of ''wellness consulting''. Many of them have great products and ideas, but it is the delivery method (MLM) that is seriously flawed. A full 98% of all people who start in a MLM business will not make money, and will actually lose money. Avoid them.

Other venues, utilizing wellness programs, such as corporate health initiatives, will be where you would want to focus your attention - - if you are considering a career path in that direction. As health costs rise, more and more corporations will feel the need to keep their workforce healthy; this field will really expand in the near future.

HollyS, this is the perspective I''m taking that more corporations are getting on board with marketing health to employees.
When you talk about corporate health initiatives are these taken on at the company or contracted out to an agency?

I would imagine that it will depend upon the company. I can see larger corporations contracting this out, perhaps to an insurance company affiliated vendor. Smaller companies will probably assign their HR departments to design a program.

If you have the background and education to design a program, why not approach one of the bigger health/worker''s comp insurance providers in your state? Contact them as a professional (not a casual inquiry) willing to work with area employers. You never know what may happen.
