I bought some Hybiscus trees for my patio this year, never had them before. They put out the most gorgeously colored flowers. Things were going just swell, until one day I went out to the patio, and some of my flowers at first glance looked like they had caught on fire or something. Horrified, I went up to inspect them, and found these bugs on them. They were all over it, yick. I''ll post a pic of the bug and what my poor flowers look like. Raid will kill them, or at least it was, they seem to be becoming somewhat resistant to it, but I could spray every day. It''s not realling helping. Are these Japanese beetles? Is there anything you can do to repel them?

My poor flower.

It must have taken them a while to find them, because I had probably a month with nothing, and now they are here every day.

I think I''ll just go with something green next year, no flowers. Not sure it''s worth it.

You can plant white geraniums. They''re toxic to Japanese Beetles and they love them. Sometimes the geraniums only stun the beetles, so you have to smash them yourself. Just be sure to clean them up. Japanese beetles, dead or alive, attract more japanese beetles.

There''s also a nematode you can purchase and put in the lawn. They will attack the beetle''s grubs.
