According to my research, crescent moon brooches were popular in the late Victorian era (1870-1900’s) into the Edwardian Era (early 1900’s). The use of opals, delicate gold filigree and the crescent shape aligns with the jewelry trends around 1890-1910.
I purchased this antique crescent brooch with the intent of making a pendant. I haven’t gotten around to it so listing it to see if a PS’er is interested. It’s in excellent condition, marked 14KUJ about 4.24 grams. 5 fiery opal cabochons ranging from 2MM-3MM in size are in excellent condition and secure in the setting.
Will ship insured in the US, $450. I found another exact piece listed for $599 on a website.
