Ok, so my friend said if I am on the fence about the Whirplool Cabrio (I told her about the feedback I got here and online) I can get a Maytag at around 50% off as well(Apparently Whirlpool bought Maytag a few years ago. I wish she told me that when she said I could get a Whirlpool)

Maytag has always been rated highly in the past, so does anyone have the Maytag Bravo Topload HE washer? Any feedback.
I thought I had it all figured out, but I am more confused than ever now. Thanks...

BTW, the Maytage has a 10 year warranty of the motor and on the stainless steel wash basket. The spin speed is only 800 rpm as opposed to the 1100 in the upper tier washers.

Last year I bought a new washer -- did a lot of online research first. Maytag doesn't seem to be all that good anymore since they were bought. Made me sad to read it. My former one was a Whirlpool & was a dog.

I ended up with a Fisher & Paykel top loader & am totally ecstatic with it. Have had it about a year. It works essentially like a front-loader turned sideways. My stuff has NEVER gotten so clean! It senses automatically how much is in there & uses water accordingly -- so you use much less water (& soap) and cycles are shorter, needing less electricity. It's extremely flexible -- you can let it run itself or enter cycles, water level, etc., as you please. This washer does everything but cook dinner, I swear! And it's so quiet. I love when it starts -- does a hum exactly like the Enterprise entering hyperspace.

The guy who installed it said he had one & it was the best washing machine he ever owned. They're not the cheapest but sure as heck are terrific, worth every single penny.

I love our Fisher Paykel washer and dryer, too. We've had them about 3 years, and they do a great job, and are very good from a Green perspective, as well. I especially love that the dryer is a top loader, but that's OT. And the washer does sound exactly like the Enterprise as it hits warp speed!

I have read a lot of good things about this washer and the Miele, but I need a top loader and since in a few months it will be just DH and me I don't need a huge washer basket, plus I am getting about 50% off msrp for a Whirlpool or Maytag. My current dryer is
15+ years and my washer (as I found out looking for the warranty) is over 8.

From everything I am reading online, it seems like washers last closer to 10 years nowadays, not like the 20+ they used to. Though you will probably get more with your Fisher & Paykel.

The Maytag (I agree that the quality is not there anymore) has a 10 year warranty on the motor and wash basket. I can buy a 2 year extended warranty on the Whirlpool for around $50. and that covers parts and labor. I did not see an extended warranty offered on the Maytag, though my friend said she will call and check on that for me.

Bottom line is my clothes never get dirty ( or should I say not as dirty as they did when DD was little and I had to deal with spitup and food on clothing, mud, dirt, grass. etc). So my clothes would get clean even if I washed them by hand (DH suggested he'd get me a washboard and/or a rock and I can wash it in the sink. Ha Ha - I told him what he could do with the washboard.). I could wait until either the dryer or washer just die on me, but then I won't get the 50% savings and cuurently my dryer is getting a little too hot (DH replaced the timing mechanism himself 5 years ago, part cost was $45.00) and I think my washer is developing a leak, because when I cleaned behind my machine Saturday , there was a little spot of water on the floor.

I have read good reviews and I have read bad reviews. It seems a majority of the bad reviews has to do with people really just not knowing how to work the machine, i.e. don't use HE detergent, improperly piling clothes, using the wrong cycles, etc. Then the people who love their machines can not say enough about it.

Buying a washer is much more agonizing than when I bought my diamond.

Our Whirlpool Cabrio was just delivered today. We're running the required initial chemical cycle now and will report back after having used it for as many cycles as we can during the 7-day return period.

We bought a Maytag Bravos set last year, and love it! Works great, washes thoroughly, holds tons of clothes, and dries well.

With that said, I don't ask much of my washer and drier. I always use cold/cold, and I always do maximum dry.

We got these...

ETA: My husband manages a machine shop, so he is forever covered in oil and crud. We wash his work stuff separately and never have a problem with stains.

They named it Bravo?
Well, that says it ALL!
It MUST be good.

Well, that didn't work out too well. After doing the initial chemical rinse, DH did a small load of laundry. I was two floors below the machine and thought it was very noisy, but the noise didn't bother DH who was on the same floor as the machine. The machine was shaking A LOT on the low spin cycle. DH thought it was fine. Then DH put in a second load consisting of a couple of towels and a terry bathrobe. He said the agitator looked like it was or was going to chew up the towels and robe. We have already scheduled a pick up for this machine and are heading to Sears to look at machines this evening. Harumph.

That is true of everything, isn't it? Sheesh, you need a PhD to buy a freaking telephone! And don't mention getting a tv, yipe, years of research required. Kind of gets ridiculous. Good luck with the hunt!

Mary Poppins, I'm sorry to hear about your washer. Bummer to the max. Not the money, which you'll get back, but the headache of the whole thing. When I was researching (again) washing machines I got really depressed when I realized that there isn't a truly excellent one made in American anymore. How sad.

So sorry that the Cabrio did not work out for you. Well, I foumd someone in my neighborhood that has the top loading Bravos for over a year now. She told me to stop over today since she will be doing laundry so I can see firsthand what I will be getting.

Well at this point we don't have much of a choice since at some point in time the washer will have to get replaced and I don't want to go through this again. And if I get a washer that bombs in a few years I would rather pay 50% less now than full price .

Thanks meresal! My neighbor has the same washer, but without the seethru lid- the B800? I think). I saw her machine yesterday while her daughter was over doing laundry. Her DD just dumped her clothes in and walked away. The machine was quiet and the two of them rave how clean it gets their clothes. My neighbor's husband owns a metal fabrication business and she says his clothes are covered with metal dust and grease and even he commented that his work clothes were never cleaner than they are now. She has had her washer for just under a year.

So DH and I ordered the Maytag Bravos (the 600) and the matching dryer yesterday. With sales tax and delivery it was just under $800 and they will haul away the dryer for free (We decided against selling for scrap because I knew it would sit in the garage forever) and are selling the old washer.

Socool, I'm so glad to hear that you liked it! How perfect that you were able to see it run. It is very quiet, and I love that I cant hear the clothes tuble in teh dryer.

It is seriously so easy to use and really does get our clothes very clean. I'm not sure if yours wil have this, but there is a "clean cycle" where you just run bleach thru it. (A light will come on, on the panel, that will notify you to run this. We have done it 3 times in a year. They say to use a product called "Affresh", but I couldn't find it, so we just use regular clorox.)) I always do a white load afterwards... just in case there is any bleach left in the bin.

Ours will have the Afresh cycle, but I don't think it alerts us. I have another washer cleaner that I currently use and it has HE cleaner on it, but it is good to know that I can use bleach instead. The savings on the machines was actually 45% of msrp and when I checked against online prices, I couldn't believe the savings we got. That is nice because it offset the cost of the Bose Portable Soundock that I got DH for his birthday (plus I was in Delaware when I purchased it and did not have to pay sales tax).

You got a great deal!

Honestly, even without the discount, these machines are a great buy. I think that we got ours for around $600-700/machine. All of the recommended front loaders are sooooo expensive, even though ours were a gift, we couldn't justify the price and the amount of space they would take up in our laundry room.

We have a hanging bar over the w/d space, and if we had bought front loaders, we wouldn't have been able to hang any clothes up. Those things are HUGE!
