Wedding Another question about DIY invites

I want to make pocketfolds and I''ve noticed how many awesome invitations people have done on this site, so I figured you guys could help me

So I was trying to make a sample of my own invitations and I couldn''t glue down the layers flat (like it looked really unprofessional)...so what kind of glue did you guys use for your invites?

Plus I''m trying to cut the paper myself with this FISKARS paper trimmer, and the linen cardstock is coming out with itty bitty extra pieces of paper on the edges. However, the metallic cardstock is coming out okay...so what kind of paper trimmer did you guys use and what papers would you suggest instead?

I really want to make our own invitations since pocketfolds tend to be on the pricey side...but if I can''t get it to look professional I may have to scrap the whole project and just order some that aren''t pocketfolds.

My favorite kind of glue for papercrafting are these little glue squares that come on a roll. You pop the edge of the box and pull them through one by one. They come off the roll and have some paper backing, so you place one side on the paper, pull off the backing, and stick your invite together. Look in the scrapbook section of your local craft store.

The linen paper might be too soft to cut with the paper trimmer. Could you look for paper that has the same look but might be a bit stiffer? Again, look in the scrapbook section of the craft store - they have TONS!

How new/old is the blade on your trimmer? I found I started to get rough edges on my cardstock when the blade was getting dull. You can get replacements pretty cheaply. As for the glue, I used this stuff. It sticks REALLY well and quickly. You can see my invites in this thread Another problem with them not gluing flat could be the thickness of the layers. Are all of your layers cardstock, or are some of them thinner paper? Good luck!!

Do you only stick them on the corners of each invite and then stick it on the backing? I did that with this double adhesive tape and you can see between the invite and the card backing...therefore the unprofessional look I think.

Yea, I think I''m going to have to look for a new type of paper...but I love the linen look!

Ladyciel, your invitations are my inspiration! They look so professional! I know you had them printed at Kinko''s, and I just think I can''t afford that since I might as well just order the invitations instead.

Same question for you, did you glue only the 4 corners, or did you run the adhesive down the length of each side? But I''ll definitely give the adhesive a try since I would run out of tape pretty fast I think if I did all 4 sides...

And the paper trimmer is new...I just bought it and this was the first time I''ve used it...so I think it''s just the linen paper

I tend to tape the corners and then in the center, sometimes adding extra along the edges if necessary.

Aww, thanks cincin! We used a thin line of glue all the way around with a couple dots or an x in the middle of the card. We could have just done dots along the edges/corners, but the full line was just faster to apply. You just have to be careful to not get too close to the edge or the glue will squish out. Boo on the trimmer and paper not getting along.

We would have saved a lot on printing if our design was just black and white. I''m not sure what colors you want to use, but sticking to black text could save you a bundle on printing. Maybe use stamping or embossing powders to get additional color?

I made my own invitations (a really long time ago though - I''ve been married for almost two years!), but I found that this kind of adhesive worked really really well - it was easy to apply and control, and it held really well as long as you got a kind that was marked "permanent" not "temporary"
