I went into Davids bridal today. I never thought I would go in there. I had just had an awesome experience at another Bridal store and I was feeling confident and sassy and thought I could handle Davids Bridal.

WRONG!!!!

My teenage daughter and I ended up faking an emergency phone call and ran out of the store..Actually that part was kind of comical. As we past our sales consultant on the way out of the store I told her we had to quickly leave due to a phone call. I told my daughter to run and she was trotting along giggling as I was whispering to her to stop it and act serious. We got into the van and broke out laughing so hard. We ran away from Davids Bridal store...omg I suppose you had to be there. But it was funny in the end.

The problem was. NO PRIVACY whats so ever. Now I am not slim, nor 20ish, nor wanting to stand in a 4x4 stale in a bustier type bra and tight fitting slip waiting for a sales consultant to bring me a dress that she thinks I will like and not even be able to see it on me in a mirror before I step out into a public area. I want some privacy and a mirror to decide if I even want to step out into the mobs of people all trying on dresses. I was mortified and embarrassed and asked if I could just have the dresses in the fitting room and she said she would hand them in to me.

My daughter stuck her arm out of the fitting room while the consultant went to get more dresses and grabbed the first one for me. I tried it on but had no idea how it looked because of no mirrors in the dressing rooms. I thought, no way am I going to go thru trying on dress after dress in this little fitting room trying to decide if I even want to go out of the fitting room.

I preceded to have my daughter help me take it off, got dressed and before she came back with an arm full of dresses, we split. Yes we told her on the way out we needed to leave due to a phone call we had received. I could not bear to think of her coming back to the fitting room and we were just gone. SO I did do that much.

Anywho, I have decided I don't care if I could find the "one" there. I won't go back.

I did however, find an Alfred ANgelo Gown style 1620J at the first bridal store I never thought I would like. This dress, when clipped tight to fit, gave me a middle I never knew I even had. I am not so sure I was in luv with the dress itself or just the body it gave me!!!!whewwwwwwwwww I am just happy to be past my first dress shopping experience. I now have a better understanding of what will look good on me and what I like and don't like....

I''m sorry you had a bad experience there! I can commiserate.

I recently had to buy a bridesmaid''s dress at David''s Bridal, and I really didn''t like how the dressing rooms were either. I am tiny, so any sample dress I try on is usually falling off of me, with my bra sticking out every which way, and it is not fun to walk out of a dressing room in such a state.

Not to mention, since I was not a "bride" in their book, I apparently merited zero attention or help, which was very frustrating because I was alone, and their selection can be a bit intimidating (I was choosing my own dress in a particular color). I was still wedding dress shopping at the time, but as soon as they treated me so dismissively as a bridesmaid, I said nothing about being a bride myself. They should pay attention to the bridesmaids, too! They could be a source of current or future business or referrals.

I''m pretty happy I will be purchasing my gown and my bridesmaids dresses elsewhere.

oooooooooo kittybean I am sorry you had a bad experience as well. You had the same feelings as I as far as not wanting to venture out in front of people with a dress on that does not fit right due to needing alterations. As well as not being able to see what you really even look like before you step out there.

I have been excited as well as nervous and even dreading going dress shopping. If I had gone into Davids Bridal first....I think I would never have set foot into another bridal store and went straight to internet dress shopping instead.

How horrible.....if it were not for their price points I do not think many would tolerate them

I went back and saw the post you did on the dress you choose. Beautiful Kittybean. What a perfect choice for you. Congrats on finding the dress as well as the bridal salon to help...

Sorry to hear you both had bad experiences at David''s!

I bought my dress there after taking about 4-5 trips to try on dresses, and I actually had only positive experiences. It was really no different than the experiences I had at the other bridal megastore I shopped at, Alfred Angelo. I had pored through the entire website beforehand and chose exactly which dresses I wanted to try on (like 7-8 each time I went). I guess that helped, since nobody had to guess what they thought I would like. I also fit pretty well in most of the dresses, and I''m sure the experience is much different when you have to go out there holding the dress together with your hands! I just wanted to let people know that though David''s gets a lot of negative publicity, not everyone has bad experiences there!

However, alterations are another story...I''ve been told never to get a single alteration done there because of their poor work quality. I will only need a bustle, but I''m taking my dress to a trusted tailor for that.

I also agree that bridesmaids are a huge source of future clients, and it''s just bad business to neglect them. I''m getting my maids'' dresses at Alfred Angelo, more because I liked the styles and colors better there, but it just makes no sense to ignore the maids!
