So lately I''ve been wondering if I really want to do the candy table. As neat as it sounds I am just not sure it''s worth it..I want some input. If you were a guest at my wedding would you prefer a card saying money was donated to a charity in your honor or a candy table?

I think I''m in the minority here, but I''m just not a fan of most candy. If I''m going to splurge on dessert, I want it to be really good dessert! I''d rather have yummy cookies or truffles! I think that candy bars at weddings can be beautiful and add to the decor, though.

I would like the candy table... but if you had a little note saying that a charitable donation had been made then I''d like that also! So it wouldn''t matter either way to me

I voted for both.

I went to a wedding this summer that had a candy bar AND made a donation to the Cancer Society on behalf of the bride''s mother.

Both were a big hit.

Not a big fan of candy, so the donation would be great.

I cant possibly say no to candy, that would imply my entire existance is a sham!! BUT, I am donating to my hospital in lieu of favours. Is that weird? Lol, so I voted for both. Sorry, I''m useless

I feel better and my waistline appreciates the donation, but I love the candy bar too!

At my son''s bar mitzvah I am doing a candy thing with bags that say, "It was sweet of you to come!". My son is also donating part of his gift money to a children''s hospital and an animal rescue organization, and we are making a contribution in his honor to the temple. I feel good about things, and it is one of the favors the kids go home with too.

Since I am currently pregnant I would say "CANDY!". But my normal non-preggo self wouldn't really care either way I don't think...

Hi Sarah. We have talked about charity donations (although we are probably leaning towards not giving favors--our wedding is in the very preliminary stages). Our biggest problem was that it was difficult to agree on a charity. Every one that we felt passionate about could possibly offend some of our guests. It either came down to picking a totally vanilla charity that we weren''t really passionate about or one that we were passionate about that all our guests might not be ideologically aligned with. As a guest, I would be upset if money was donated in my name for something I strongly oppose, so I am particularly sensitive about this. If you can come up with a great charity, then I think is the best favor. If not, I would go with candy.

I voted for candy because it''s my favorite thing in the world.

I love the charity idea as well, but I have been surprised at how poorly some people react to that. Even if they would have never thought twice about the favor otherwise, some people just seem to become incensed at the fact that you gave something "in their name" to a charity they didn''t have a chance to approve. With every cause, there seem to be some dissenters. I''ve seen negative reactions to a variety of seemingly innocuous charities ("Why should breast cancer get all the attention? What about other cancers?!" --my uncle''s ever-charitable wife). That said, if your crowd is more go-with-the-flow than my relatives, or if a few negative reactions won''t bother you, I would go for it. I think that beginning your marriage by being generous to those less fortunate is a beautiful sentiment.

Oooh I made the 21st vote for charity to make it a tie. I feel special...though I suppose the real special vote will be the one to break the tie...

Either way, I LOVE LOVE LOVE candy, but I am big on charity too (thats what comes from volunterring all your time with a charity instead of having an actual job and making money). FI and I thought about doing this for our wedding but the people we talked to said it would be lame. We just decided to give em cookies instead.
