One of my best friends is traveling through Thailand and has been there about 5 days now, he and I generally talk about this time of night. He messaged me about an hour ago and told me that he just went through a pretty 'damn big shaking'- come to find out that it was a 7.0 earthquake!!!!
Yssie- thanks, he is fine- said that was 'broken in' from years of living in Cali. He made me laugh though, he said 'it's cool - if apocalypse happens tomorrow at least I've been in paradise the last 5 days '
LOL. Boys. He is going to send me some pics, I will post them when he does.
Yeah... just the other day DH commented that he's glad he's got enough data for his thesis, so if an earthquake hits he doesn't have to worry about saving his windtunnel. Never mind the couple thousand pound compressor that would take out his lab and everything around it first, or our top-floor apartment..
So many plate edges meet in that general part of the globe, it must be shaking somewhere at least once a week! Hope all are ok -- 7.0 isn't too too horrid on bedrock base (provided building is done to some sort of code, unlike Haiti). It's when you get into landfill areas, where the ground isn't firm & shakes like jello that bad damage happens. Kind of disorienting in any case.
