Annoying WF phone calls

I'm not bothered by this kind of marketing at all. In fact, I appreciate the time that it takes to make personal customer contact--they aren't using an outsourced service to do this. I got a call from Liza asking if I was still at the address they had on file so that they could send me a calendar. I think I missed the call, so she left a message. If I'm unsure who a call is from, I let it go to voice mail, no big deal. My e-ring is from WF and I got my birthday bezel band from them this year.

The Ford dealership where we bought our used Focus in 2010 sent us a Christmas card last year and again this year. They also sent us a catalog on the new Focus a few months ago, with a note from the salesman who helped us, which was cool, I thought. It's this kind of personal contact that makes me more likely to purchase again from them in the future.

I wonder if we can email and request a calendar? They haven't called me this year... :blackeye: lol

I don't mind the phone calls but I wish they would actually send me the "free gift" that they say they are! I always get the call, confirm the address, and nothing ever comes!

I had received calls as well, a few years back. I don't care for marketing calls, so I requested that future contact be made by email, which I can check at my convenience.

They called me last Christmas and said I was getting a calendar. I never got one. I was kinda bummed but I haven't got any calls this year.
I do find it kind of annoying.

Renee actually came to my house & insisted on catsitting while I was going on vacation for a week. I came home and the entire place was decorated for xmas. DELIGHTFUL!*

* this is perhaps a delusion caused by a unique combination of sleeping pills, Tequilia and boredom. I only say that because "Renee" was wearing a Reindeer suit and sounded a lot like James Earl Jones.

And no rustic diamonds in the bargain? sheesh! :rodent:

cheers--Sharon

Yes, I get calls like this, too. We are on the Do Not Call List and the calls you describe are illegal. But when I called my state's consumer protection agency, they told me they've received many complaints about this, but they have no way of stopping it or enforcing the DNC on these people because the calls are coming from an overseas call center (no jurisdiction). Also, I do some contract work, and, like you, receive calls with blocked numbers or unfamiliar numbers with regard to that work, so I don't have the option to just not pick up.

I don't believe the "do not call list" restriction applies if you've actually done business with the caller, as Lula has with WF. (Maybe this varies from state to state?). If you've asked them not to call you, of course that's a different issue.

I wouldn't find that annoying at all to have a call form a vendor I have used regarding a gift! But I do not answer calls that I don't feel like taking anyway. I would simply ask that they remove my number from their phone list and email instead.

But WF emailed me about the calendar, I believe. I used the 2011 calendar and look forward to the 2012 one!

What is majorly annoying to me is political calls!!! I have already decided to call the office of every politician that makes an automated call to my number and tell them I will be tallying the political calls and voting for the ones who call me the least or none!!!

Yes, certain categories of calls are exempt from DNC, and one of those categories is businesses you've done business with. But, even in that case, if you tell them you don't want to be called, they must respect your request. When Renee was calling me, I asked (several times) for her to just please e-mail me instead of call. The calls did stop. So I was actually a little surprised to receive a call from a new sales rep (Angela). I also told her to not call me; e-mail instead. If I get another call from them, they will be in violation of the DNC.

I am also on the "Do Not Call List." I had some credit card company calling me repeatedly asking if I wanted to lower my rates. I asked them repeatedly to stop. I called my state's Attorney General Office, who gave me the number of the FCC. I put through a complaint. Those annoying calls have now stopped.[/quote]

Yes, ruby59, those are the calls I get, too. The calls do not actually come from a credit card company that I have a card from; they are from a call center selling some shady "lower your interest rates" scam. I know, because I have actually taken the time to "press 1 to talk to a representative" and quizzed their "reps" about which card that I carry are they calling about. Of course, after several questions, they actually have to admit they can't answer because they are not calling on behalf of any of my cc companies. So this company is in violation of the DNC because I have no prior business relationship with their company. When I then tell them, that they are in violation of the DNC, they hang up. No surprise there. Good to know that you got help from the FCC. That's my next step.

Well, DS, this approach will certainly get you the representation you deserve! ;))

Thanks, everyone, for your replies. It's interesting to read the different opinions on marketing calls.

Lula, I figure if they are that disrespectful of people's privacy and are actually dumb enough to think educated people really listen to recorded political messages, I certainly think we are much better off without them in office! Not sure there will be many or any running that would give me the representation that I would like, so I don't think we have many worries there. ;))

What bothers me about these automated calls is that for some of them, you cannot disconnect the call by hanging up. A few times I needed to make an important call but could not disengage from that one until the message finished. It could be dangerous if there was ever an emergency in your home where every second counts that you summon help fast.

I can relate. I used to get so annoyed and stressed and angry and red but I realized, they never feel the same. So why should I? So instead of putting myself through all the trouble, I pull up pranks when they're on the phone. It's better that way. And it's good for my health. Laughter is the best medicine. Hahaha!

I'd find it annoying. And not just because I don't care for WF. Rather it is the exact REASON I don't care for WF. None of the vendors I do business with would even consider that this is okay. And email that actually says: we have a gift for you. Please confirm your address. That might be okay. A phone call and one that doesn't get right to the point? Not so much.

Oh by the way, I got my prank tips from here http://www.callercenter.com/articles/14waystoannoytelemarketers.html..... You guys might want to give it a try. It's a free advice. :)

Oh, my goodness, I would never consider using some of these "tips" no matter how irritated I was about telemarketing calls! Blowing a whistle into a phone could do serious damage to the hearing of the person on the other end of the line. That is just wrong. Especially since I would not be hurting the company, I would be hurting an innocent employee who probably has no health insurance and depends on the sh*tty job for his/her livelihood.

Hi, Gypsy. Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I actually like WF, and I liked working with Renee. But I've told them on several occasions that I think many of their marketing techniques are kind of juvenile and unsophisticated. The FB marketing especially. Maybe I'm just an old crank -- I'm sure Angela would agree ;))

I agree with you Lula. I didn't get a call for a calendar but I had chatted online (through the chat feature on their site) a few months ago with someone about a pair of studs and requested that they *email* me with additional info. I received multiple emails and phone calls about the studs, even after I told them I was no longer interested at this time (I ended up ordering them from BGD). It wasn't a big deal, but yes, it was rather annoying.

I am pleased to report that on Dec 19th I got an e-mail from Whiteflash saying they want to send me a calendar and asking for my current mailing address. This was the first I have heard from them since my purchase a couple of years ago.

Thanks to this thread I had a little background on the situation, and I am happy they finally got to my name. I sent them my address, and I am looking forward to getting my new calendar soon. :))

They did call me a couple of weeks ago - at work no less - but today I did get the calendar in the mail. It's a good size to hang up and the pictures are gorgeous! I'm not totally outraged with the call especially if they're not trying to pressure me into buying something. It was presented as a friendly 'just checking in' phone call which I'm sure which is designed to keep them in the forefront of your mind.

They call me once a year; it's been about the calendar. I get the occasional e-mail from them. I don't think it's intrusive--it's not like they do it constantly. I just feel bad that they think we might buy something else from them. My husband might be up for a purchase like the ONE we made with them--but not for another twenty-five years.

This year they left a message on my voice mail, which I didn't return because I don't really want the calendar. I like diamonds and jewelry, but on my calendars I much prefer scenery to photos of someone else's rings blown up to the size of a hamburger, if you know what I mean? so the calendar is wasted on me, which is a shame because it looks expensive.

They were a great company to work with and I love my jewelry from them, and one year when they called I told them that my earring box had broken and they sent another free of charge, which was great. So I'm not complaining. I just really am not their target audience though--it was a once in a lifetime thing.
