Annoying WF phone calls

Is anyone else bothered by random WF phone calls? Out of the blue this week, I got a phone call from a sales rep named Angela. I was confused and asked why she was calling (for one thing, I've never worked with her on any project or even sent an e-mail inquiry). I asked why she was calling and I said I wasn't planning on buying any diamond jewelry in the near future. She said that the phone call wasn't a sales call (yeah, right), that she was just calling to say hello and that they had a gift for me (???). I asked her not to call me anymore -- gift or no gift, I'm not interested.

18 months ago I bought a scattered band from them, which I ended up selling on DB because I lost a lot of weight and it was too big for me. Renee was my sales associate for that transaction. I spoke with Renee about a custom design I was considering over a year ago. Renee followed up with me a few times. Ultimately I decided not to go ahead with that project. That's it -- the sum total of my WF experience. I am not FB friends with them either.

The more I thought about this WF phone call the more irritated I became. I just don't want to be bugged, randomly, by a vendor. It felt invasive.

Has anyone else received these phone calls? Do you find them invasive?

They send out Christmast cards. Beautiful ones! The one I got was from Papyrus.

I've bought several things from them. They've never randomly called me. About a month ago, I got a call from them asking to confirm my address so they can send me next year's calendar. That's it.

Oh, and I got a call last year about the 2011 calendar too. So they've only ever called me about the calendar. This year, she asked if the address they had on file was correct, I said yes, and she said thanks and that was it.

Thanks for the replies, MC and TGal. I can't remember if I got a Christmas card from them (Renee) last year. Maybe the "gift" was the calendar. The sales rep didn't ask about my address, though.

Renee was the one who called me and asked for my updated address. I don't think it's anything to get worked up over... really!

Judging from the tone of your post possibly being the tone of your voice in her call to you, I'm not surprised she didn't ask you. You said you weren't interested in the gift. And yeah, the gift most likely is the calendar.

Yes, Angela sent me an email confirming my address. They want to send me their beautiful calendar. I can't wait to receive it.

I was thrilled to get a card a local jeweler sent me, there was all kinds of delicious bling on it! I like getting WF (and anyone else's) calenders too but I would prefer not to receive phone calls. Finewater sent me a fridge calender magnet last year which I loved...hope I get another.

Oh, yes, the tone of my voice was not at all friendly. I teach, and it's the end of the semester, and I was not happy to be interrupted while I was busy trying to grade student papers. I was working at home that day, so that I could work uninterrupted

Renee would call me randomly, too, just to say "hi" and it drove me nuts. I asked her to stop the phone calls and just e-mail me instead.

Well, maybe not. But I don't like getting sales calls. Who does?

If they were calling to ask if you wanted a calendar I can understand. They are expensive to print and postage is not cheap. No point in mailing those to people who have moved or don't want one, like yourself. But WF should use email so they don't annoy their past customers with phone calls. I also received a phone call but was able to spend 15 seconds to confirm my address and tell them thanks.

That's a common technique in sales. If it were me I wouldn't be bothered by I but I would as you apparently did ask them not to contact me again.

Edit- I see that you asked her to email you instead, just calling to say hi, lol!
Now if anyone still calls you I'd be angry. I hope not!

I don't see how one call would be that irritating to be upset all day. When I don't want to be interrupted I just don't pick up my phone. If it is important they will leave a message. Hopefully you won't get anymore calls!

I get on average 5 calls a week, from various bank's indirect marketing call centers, who are impersonable and have no idea who you are, what you do, how much you earn or save etc etc. They just call to ask:
1) Do you want a fund transfer (essentially cash paid to your bank up to the limit of your credit) to buy whatever, and to offset any outstanding loan
2) We have this awesome insurance package custom designed for you! Yes you! Now if you could just provide me ALL your personal details...

These calls are exceedingly annoying. They use blocked numbers, no caller identification, so you have no idea who it is, and various government calls, headhunters etc use blocked numbers too so I typically pick up to be on the safe side. They call EVERYONE from the secretary to the director at the same frequency.

I've asked them to stop. Maybe 100 times. I've given up. One of the conveniences of modern life and shared information.

Oh, and I would love a calendar - but I hate it when anyone calls me to say I won something or other could I please leave my address/name/bank details etc with them. So it would have to be a retailer/business I've transacted with

I'm not a fan of phone calls either, but maybe they did try to email and it went unanswered (potentially caught in a spam filter or something). I did get an email from them to confirm my address, and haven't responded just because I'm lazy and keep forgetting...lol.

I also got an e-mail like this from WF, and they said they hoped I was enjoying my ACA. It was a very nice, friendly e-mail. Only problem? I've never owned an ACA! Not that I wouldn't want to own one! But I guess they mixed me up with someone else.

Renee actually came to my house & insisted on catsitting while I was going on vacation for a week. I came home and the entire place was decorated for xmas. DELIGHTFUL!*

* this is perhaps a delusion caused by a unique combination of sleeping pills, Tequilia and boredom. I only say that because "Renee" was wearing a Reindeer suit and sounded a lot like James Earl Jones.

Hmm, on second thought, maybe I should have accepted the gift...

Yes, I get calls like this, too. We are on the Do Not Call List and the calls you describe are illegal. But when I called my state's consumer protection agency, they told me they've received many complaints about this, but they have no way of stopping it or enforcing the DNC on these people because the calls are coming from an overseas call center (no jurisdiction). Also, I do some contract work, and, like you, receive calls with blocked numbers or unfamiliar numbers with regard to that work, so I don't have the option to just not pick up.

And, yes, I told Renee several times to please e-mail me. I've never had any problem with WF's e-mails ending up in my spam box. And now I've told Angela the same. Many businesses I've worked with ask their customers what they're preferred contact method is. I really appreciate being asked.

I've had WF call me once, and it was only to return a call that we had placed when they were closed. It was nice that they followed up, but also just a little bit odd, since we didn't leave a message or anything like that. I guess they used their caller ID, which again was nice, but a bit unexpected.

They never called again after that, but that's probably because we didn't buy from them.

I got an email but no call. Just ask them not to call you again, I'm sure they will oblige...

I haven't responded to the email yet either, but Deco, if there's a chance that not responding will get a WF rep to come decorate my house for Christmas, I'll take it, Reindeer suit would be added entertainment for my kids so win/win!!

I don't mind the calls from WF. I'd love to work with them again in the future, and it doesn't bother me that they call to check in occasionally. I think the last call I received was last year, when they wanted to send me a calendar and they needed our current address.

I don't mind calls from WF. I have a delightful chat with Traci, without any obligation. Their calendar is lovely and I would rather talk jewelry than deal with credit card offers

I am also on the "Do Not Call List." I had some credit card company calling me repeatedly asking if I wanted to lower my rates. I asked them repeatedly to stop. I called my state's Attorney General Office, who gave me the number of the FCC. I put through a complaint. Those annoying calls have now stopped.

They recently called me which was unexpected but I'll take a free, beautiful calender! I didn't recognized the number, or area code, so I already knew it probably was a sales call. Maybe that's why I wasn't overly irritated.

HI:

I've received calls, but nothing else! Maybe this year I'll get a calendar--wouldn't mind at all!!

cheers--Sharon
