St. Louis is revolting! Pujols proved to his fans here that the almighty dollar was more important than his "word". Not that I believe millionaires or hold them to their words all that often. I've seen photos of people burning Pujols jerseys, his statues have been defaced, and rumor has it the Pujols restaurant will go under from loss of business.

St. Louis is a pretty grudgy bunch of folks. Hopefully the Angels don't play here, he'll get boo'd a lot.

With a pricetag like that? :errrr:

On a different subject - I fail to understand why McNabb wasn't signed - oh, the moment he was released. Really, Houston? And poor Kyle Orton - I hope his finger heals quickly! It won't be a career breaker but I do wonder if he'll get to start again if he doesn't finish the season...

As someone living in the Philly 'burbs who has heard all the McNabb debates over the years, off the top of my head because he's 35, has been long rumored to have conditioning and work ethic issues, and wouldn't be able to learn the playbook of any of the teams with QB issues (Houston and Chicago come to mind) in time to save their seasons.

Problem with trying to evaluate him is that he had a decent receiver exactly *once* - and that year his numbers were off the charts! Though everyone forgot about McNabb in the Peyton Manning hullabaloo that year..

Yeah, he's old. And forgets he can't move as quickly as he used to be able to, and that's the Bears' last impression of him. But for goodness sake he's a PROVEN playoff QB who, if he had a superbowl ring, would be a no-brainer hall of famer!

Houston's stuck with third-string what's-his-name who has no business starting anything. The Bears are especially aggravating *because* they have a solid season but they don't have a prayer with Hanie unless someone remembers he's *not* jay Cutler, and *soon*... seems smarter to get over what they sunk into McCown and do some CPR, no?

ETA sorry for dragging your thread off-sport ame!

Well, I live in St. Louis and I'd actually like to say that we have some pretty respectful fans. I've yet to go to a game where a former Card has been boo'd. In fact, every former Cardinal player I've seen come back to Busch Stadium has been applauded. Now, I'm definitely sad about the news and for a guy to say that he wanted to end his career here and that it wasn't about the money, I'm feel a bit deceived.

Time will tell how the fans react.

I guess maybe I need to hang out where you are, because I have heard maybe 2 people say anything positive about it, and one of them was almost certainly sarcasm, my facebook feed is STILL riddled with the spewing of that craziness. They loved Edmonds, he got traded. There may have been boos regarding something to do with someone going to San Diego? last year. Someone I don't recall the name of since it's not a sport I care about generally.

I liked that he and his wife granted interviews on the radio station they own (and absolutely destroyed by making it a religious station instead of a fantastic and renowned classical station like it had been for a LONG time) and keep saying that god made this decision for him. By like I am being sarcastic, obviously. They probably didn't get a big enough payout to talk to any other "media". I did enjoy the photos posted by my hair salon of all of the Pujols memorabilia that his wife, probably now a former client, had given them for decor in the front of the salon being removed from the walls and replaced with artwork instead, and all the stores giving away the Pujols jerseys for free to make a point.

Aside from that, he mentioned in an interview with 60 minutes a while back that he is very bitter about having not been drafted immediately in the first round, and holds that against all teams, and that he wants a contract/payout to rival A-Roid and the like, and clearly he was more concerned about that, than about the PR spin he tried to spew about wanting to retire here and stay here. It was always about the money and the fame and the glory. Yknow, the way good christian soldiers should be.

Also, if he was really as concerned about money as he made it look, moving to Miami was smarter, because it wouldn't be taxed like it will be here or in LA. But he wanted that big number.

I don't REALLY care about him or the baseball thing, but I find it fascinating how personally everyone took it, and how everyone seemed to believe he really was a good person. I think greed and spite showed his true colors.

I was disappointed, but not truly surprised. People take new jobs, despite loving where they currently are, all the time when the money is right. Until I can say I wouldn't do the same thing, I'm trying not to be bitter.

He DOES give a lot to charity, so in the way of a silver lining, at least there will more dosh available for those in need. The Angels are going to be first in that line when he's 40 and unable to keep up with the younguns, tapping out their payroll.

Maybe I'm being optimistic. I always referred to him as "my boyfriend," much to my husbands chagrin.

You're right, I guess I'm used to hearing everyone cheer for former players that were traded. I haven't heard anything positive from anyone in my circle, either, but I hope the fans here don't boo him. If anything, I think silence would speak volumes.

Totally off topic..... What salon do you go to? My stylist at a salon in the CWE moved and I'm looking for a new place to go. I'm (fingers crossed) hoping to be offered a LMT position at a spa in Frontenac soon, but my split ends are desperate for some love ASAP. :))

ETA: justginger, are you in the STL area, too?

I hope for silence. I really do. Last I heard, mind you this was on KMOX and might be pure speculation, was that the people in charge of his charity were already having to lay people off because there was a hold on funding til the family decided whether to leave it here in st. louis, move it to LA or open a spinoff there. Which is a shame. People who want to help kids...shameful.

Salons: I bounce around between three usually, depending on my schedule, since two aren't really convenient to me anymore since we're downtown at work now, I have a person at all three that I usually go to. One is Lisa on Olive, though I think the owner is a bit of a whackadoo, but most of all he's just a d!ck to like everyone there and doesn't seem to get that treating your clients like crap isn't going to keep them. But I like her, so I avoid him at all costs. He looks like that guy that played Paolo on Friends. So I started going down the street to Studio Y which I think is still technically Creve Coeur when the girl I liked for color left there to go with another girl that walked away from him, and I also go to J3 which is in Lafayette Square. I started there for hair bec the girl that owns it is like the greatest waxer on earth and it was easier to schedule my trims and whatnot for when I was already there. I like Emily for cuts, but I think Helen is new there and is also supposed to be awesome. I don't know how easy either is to get into but I've had no trouble getting in to Studio Y. None of them is really particularly financially um...friendly. lol I can ask a few friends if you have a pricepoint though. A friend used to go to a place called "The Electric Chair" which I thought was somewhere around Hampton/44 and she LOVED the girl. I don't know if she still goes there or if it's still in business though.

I do my own color now though, in part because its just easier to do it at home at like 11 on a Friday night or whatever. I am also FAR more anal retentive than anyone I've ever met in a salon so I leave no hair untouched at the root. lol But I also do them every other week bec I hate roots.

Ah Frontenac, the bane of my existence. I've only bought items in that spa, but never had any services. I usually avoid Neimans like the plague, I really do not like being stalked by security and accused of 'suspicious behavior' no matter how I am dressed, and I am not a fan of Tiffany's there either. I wore my honkin' fakey ring there once and it was literally the only time anyone in those stores gave me the time of day other than to have security follow me around.

Thanks for the salon recs! I have heard of the legendary esthetician at J3 and I live just blocks from Lafayette Square so I shall call tomorrow for an appointment!

And yes, Frontenac is certainly filled to the brim with yuppies. However, like Albert, I am driven by the money!! I'd love to get a job closer in Soulard, Lafayette Sq or downtown (where we just moved from), but it's slim pickings these days.

I hope they can get you in for a trim soon! Call right away. I book mine out quite a ways just bec it's easier for me to plan around prescheduling. Either one can put you to sleep in the shampoo chair, btw. Im told Helen will make you drool. lol I have gone to J for a while, she saved me after my bikini-wax-from-hell that seasons gave me. I still have nightmares.

I tend to not go up to Olive unless I have a car appointment or a dire need for either La Salsa or Stir Crazy. I try to not go beyond Manchester or the Galleria haha!!!

I hope you find something you like. Someone mentioned a salon in Kirkwood, I cannot think of the name, but it's around the corner from Deweys and faces a microbrewery that has changed names about 20 times in the last year alone. I've gotten shampoo there a few times but haven't gone there for hair cuts or anything.

My friend just said on FB that she likes the salon in Brentwood in that strip with Crate--Mitchell James. She's gone there a while and when she said that I recalled exactly the last time I asked her about it.

Not a native StLer, grew up an hour west off 70. Just a rabid Cards fan. Now in Perth, Western Australia, spreading redbird love. :wink2:
