Maybe this is too broad of a question but I have a few friends that are scandinavians (2 couples from Finland and 2 couples from Sweden), they all have yellow gold rings with or without diamonds as their engagement and wedding ring. Does any one know if yellow gold is more popular in Scandinavian countries or in Europe in general? I know it''s more of a personal preference, however, is anyone else noticing this?

I think Europeans in general are often more into tradition and yellow gold is the traditional wedding ring material in many places. Europe in general isn''t nearly as ring obsessed as America is.

Yellow gold has always been more popular in the UK as have coloured stones for engagement rings.

Yes - I''m in the UK and most people of the older generation (or even married just 5-10 years) have yellow gold rings, and it''s still pretty popular today. Most of my younger friends getting engaged and married now are going towards platinum or white gold, but it''s a relatively new concept.

And ditto people in Europe placing less importance on the engagement ring. My friend got engaged with a 0.35ct and everyone referred to it as a "big rock"

It''s more about the overall design and "look" of a ring, rather than size of the diamond - anything more than half a carat and people will constantly be asking if it''s real.

Thritto! I'm from Sweden and people generally wear plain 18k yellow gold bands as their engagement/wedding ring. Diamonds aren't *that* hyped here.

I''m a Finlander (as if the blonde hair and blue eyes didn''t give it away..

), and all my relatives wear yellow gold.
I''m the oddball with white gold..

Yes, yellow gold is generally more traditional in Europe, not just in Scandinavian countries.

In Germany/neighboring countries, the engagement and wedding ring is the same thing and it is most often a simple band.

The U.S. definitely takes the cake as far as obsession with diamond rings is concerned.
