Given her self destructive lifestyle, I can't say I'm shocked.l

Ditto. Could have seen this one coming from a mile away. Very sad though.

I know she was in bad shape physically and mentally, but I was still shocked and saddened to see this. I'm not going to pass judgement - she seemed to me to be a very ill person. A very tragic ending to a sad life. I'm sorry she couldn't win the battle against the problems that plagued her.

It's certainly sad, but not a shock. Just feels like a very familiar story...

for some reason i continue to think about this...many people could have predicted this is how it'd end for her. i feel like the same is true for a few others...charlie sheen, for example. britney?

Yes. I don't think about the details of others' lives/how they live, so when I hear this kind of news, it is upsetting. Peace to the family.

So sad. Obviously a terribly disturbed young girl.

It's a huge loss. I am sad, I loved her music. My thoughts and prayers are with her, her family and her friends... Hoping they have some comfort and strength going foward.

Her music will live on forever...

Not one to judge.

Hoping she is at peace now.. Heart breaking for her family... :((

I feel the same as most others who have posted here...saddened, yes, but not surprised. The fact that it was predictable doesn't make it any less tragic, though.

Definitely, she was a very talented young woman and it's a shame that so many people in this world suffer from the same issues that she did and half the time they end up in the same situation. Not just musicians like her, but so many people around the world go through the same thing she did and until something like this happens some of us don't grasp the severity of drug addictions, and just how bad things can get when proper attention isn't given to the problem.

It is certainly a devastating day for her parents but they (her dad, in particular) always seem very enabling and dismissive of the depth of her problem. makes it that much more sad.

Tragic, yes. Surprised, no.

Why are the talented ones leaving us so soon??

I was a little surprised to hear the news this morning, but only because I haven't seen her around in a long while. It is very sad. Why does it seem like the most talented people also seem to be the ones wresling the biggest inner demons. Such a loss of talent.

This is a big topic.
I've heard many creative folk lose their edge when they finally get therapy or get on medication.

I think those types at least have the belief that getting therapy or going on meds would be detrimental to their creativity. My daughter is an artist with ADHD and she admits that she knows being able to focus via meds would help her, she refuses because she's afraid she'll lose the creative edge that those racing thoughts (and physicality) bring to her. I don't know if it's true, but it's something people assume for sure.

With addiction though, it's that plus something all consuming and I don't know how some people get out of it, while probably most do succumb to it eventually. Obviously for celebs the pressure is extremely intense, and it's hard to find someone to really trust. Very sad.

Agreed. It's so sad when you see a life wasted over poor decisions.

I once met her. It was in 2008. I was walking near my home in San Francisco and I saw her on the corner with her ex husband. I spoke to her for a few minutes. She was very nice and polite. Even though she looked really awful in all those tabloid pictures she was actually petite and cute ( not totally anorexic looking at that point ). I was always hoping she would get it together. So sad.

Have they reported the cause of death?

No - the autopsy was inconclusive and they are awaiting additional reports (assume toxicology reports). Her dad said she was off drugs for 3 years, but her mom said she had been drinking a lot.

I'm sorry. I wasn't familiar with much of her music but from everything I hear she was an extraordinary talent.
