The most amazing story happened in my close family this week.

On Sunday, my nephew (the 26-year old son of my sister) had a sky-diving-accident. His main parachute did not open correctly, and his spare-parachute got caught in the main. He hit the ground at an approximate speed of 70 mph.

On Monday, we got confirmation that he magically did not even break one bone. A dislocation in the back could either remain untreated (with negative effects) or could be repaired with surgery. He chose for surgery, which was performed yesterday afternoon.

And just a few minutes ago, he has been released from the hospital.

Can you imagine that I am in a very positive mood this week?

Live long,

Gosh, Paul, what a miracle! Best wishes to your nephew & very glad for you.

wow!!! That's amazing Paul! May he have a long, healthy, and happy life!! :)

I want to hear MORE! What was he thinking, how is he feeling, what did he land in?

Absolutely incredible. I'm so glad he's okay. Is he giving up parachuting as a hobby, after this incident (I hope!)?

that is amazing! I'm happy that it turned out the way it did. I once worked with a man who went parachuting, but his chute malfunctioned and did not open (he's been parachuting several times before) broke almost every bone in his body followed by several years of rehab, But you wouldn't know it now, he's as normal as can be - amazing! he's still a dare devil in his 60s'!

Wow, someone was watching over your nephew! I'm so glad that he's ok and out of the hospital!

Me, too! I am so happy he's ok, that's amazing, not even one broken bone. That's a miracle. He's meant for something.

Wow, that is quite extraordinary! Indeed you all have a lot to be thankful for.

What a miracle!

Guess his time on earth wasn't done yet! I pray for a speedy recovery from surgery!

Just a question though, is he going to "get back on the horse" per say and give it another go? Or are his air plane days done?

Oh my heavens-that really is some amazing luck!!

what an amazing story! I'm so happy that he's ok!

That is truly amazing. I've heard stories about this and am always amazed at the person's incredible luck. I bet your nephew's outlook on life will be forever changed in a very positive way.

Please don't feel obligated to share, but I'm curious if he had passed out before hitting the ground? I've heard that being unconscious is what allows the body to be loose and absorb he impact better.

Again, I'm so happy for your nephew and your family.

OMG! I'm so happy that he is doing well...thats not the usual outcome!

That is an amazing story!

Jesus, that is a miracle!!! :o :appl:

I am so glad that he is alive and well, Paul!

Wow, what luck! Great news - so happy to hear it.

Praise God! That man has a very special purpose in this world. Thank you for sharing.

What a miracle! Your cousin must have really strong bones. lol ;)

Wow!!

I love a happy ending and this is just amazing! I'm glad to hear he's okay.

I'm going to have to do a few jumps (and then a couple per year after that) when we get the airplane flying again.... I'd love to hear more about what went wrong and what your nephew did.

Goodness Paul, that's wild. I'm so so glad for you and your family and the lad himself of course. How very amazing. Hope he isn't too traumatised. Very young for a near death experience. Although I guess one always is.

Holy smokes! I've heard of this happening before and it's always amazed me. I'm so glad he's okay!

OMG.

I'm SO glad he's okay!! Miracles do happen  I hope the good luck continues for you and yours Paul :appl:

That is amazing! So very glad he is okay! Thanks for sharing your good news with us, it seems like it has been a week of really
sad news.

I hope he has no lasting effects on his back and a easy recovery from surgery. He is a blessed man, as are you!

Thank you all for the nice words. Seeing him yesterday, there physically is no difference with the man I saw two weeks ago. Truly amazing.

For those of you interested, here is a video-clip of the jump with some explanation in Dutch on what went wrong. http://vtm.be/nieuws/binnenland/56554-parachutist-zwaar-gewond-na-val

It is clear that the fall was the most horrifying for him. That simply took ages. He never went unconscious at all and automatically used the correct technique of 'hitting the ground', I guess.

Too soon to tell whether he will take up that sport again.

Live long (very appropriate in this case),

wow that is incredible! Thanks for sharing - it's always great to hear good news.

Paul, that is absolutely amazing!!! I'm so glad he's OK!!!

Now tell him to go buy a lottery ticket! LOL!

Thank God he is alright, Paul. It is a miracle.
