I am sure you aren''t the only one DF! But we do seem to be a very educated group here...

You''ve got the school of life behind you though right? Much more valuable than most people''s college degrees!

FI doesn''t have a college degree, but I get more help from him on my school work than from anyone else. Earns real money unlike me too. He is the one that helps me whenever I need to go over contracts or negotiate. At social situations he knows how to keep the conversation going while I say nothing because I know nothing.
Actually looking at him, all I can think of is "What the heck am I still doing here?"

Look at your posts! You have tons of intelligence to offer

I was going to say "Me Me Me!!!" but then I remembered I have an Associate''s Degree. Although it''s only in Culinary Arts not anything academic, so I discount it a lot.

Don''t feel bad DF.

I''m a very proud college drop out. Well paid too :)

I don''t have a degree either, which is why I can''t afford a Whiteflash diamond. Dammit.

I don't have a college degree, but I make more money than a lot of people with a Masters, so I don't even stress about it. Although I most likely could get even more money with a degree.

Little story about that. I really wanted to get some experience by moving from a self-insured company, Ralston Purina, to a large insurance company. I could not get an interview. They refused to interview me or even consider me because I didn't have a college degree. A few months later a recruiter called me about a job she thought I would be interesed in and I told her that I had to know which company it was first, because I may have already applied there.

She told me it was at the insurance company I had applied for that refused to consider me. I told the recruiter that they wouldn't interview me because of the college degree requirement. The recruiter tells me "Oh, that doesn't matter if you come through a recruiter. I can get you in the door for the interview" I was baffled, but I said "Okay, if you say so". I attended the interview and they hired me within a week.

The recruiter received 1/3 of my annual salary as her fee. All I could think of was " What a bunch of morons. They could have had me for free, on more than one occasion, yet they paid that much money to a middle man".

No offense to anyone with a college degree....but I got snarky with myself and thought that the person who wouldn't interview me and cost the company that needless recruiter fee, probably had a college degree.

The sad part was that those unnecessary fees were passed on to the consumer in price of services. That stuff pisses me off.

DF, it does not matter. No one here knows that unless it gets brought up, and you have so much going on I certainly never thought about your educational background.

I''m almost done with mine, but SO never went to college and make plenty of money. He makes enough to support us both while I finish up school.

Sometimes I feel like a degree is a rite of passage -- at least a bachelors is. Real world experience has served me better than Sociology 432 ever did...

That was strange, Julianna, because my avatar is my cat, and my cat is named Nietzsche. So I thought for a second that I knew you, and you recognized my cat, and that freaked me out. LOL

Now, I realize you were talking about my quote. Good catch.

As an example, a friend of a friend is in law school. She is a brilliant student - I mean she is in the top percentile of her class and has had some of the top firms in the city approach her kinda brilliant. And yet, she has the least amount of common sense I know. Seriously, it never ceases to confuse and amuse me

I have a masters, am a LIW, and would never spend more than $5k on anything that doesn''t shield me from the rain or drive me around.

I have to say, I don't really believe that. You can make a pile of cash without a degree.

"Formal education will make you a living, but Self Education can make you a fortune" - Jim Rohn

I make more than almost anyone I know my age, and I dropped out of university, and I was barely there when I was enrolled. Another person my age (25) is doing *really* well (read: owns businesses, several million in investment real estate, ferrari, porsche etc), and didn't go to College. He decided to start businesses instead.

A colleague of mine who is a bit older (31) made about $700,000 [gross] last month (that's not a normal month for him, but still) and he dropped out of high school. On a recent business trip with him, I told someone that we're both dropouts, but he just beat me to it :)

The most valuable things you learn are outside of the classroom.

(I'm not knocking degrees, and definately not education. My FI has two degrees, one a Masters. I just hired her to run my business

I''m certain that you are not the only person without a degree. Or even college courses under your belt. There just seems to be many professional people here on PS as an average.

I have had numerous college courses; did not graduate; I fell into jobs that paid more than what I would earn with a degree (and the debt that accompanies it).

If I could have earned enough, I would have gotten my degree as a paralegal. Loved, loved, loved that work. But I make more in MMH (middle management hell). And when I made the choice to follow the money, I didn''t have my DH even on the horizon; so I had to go down the path that offered more financial security. First rule of thumb for any woman. Make sure you can take care of yourself.

CustomCushion: Jim Rohn is a great speaker! How did you hear about him? Nikken?

I went to college for six years. When people hear that, they say "oh, what did you get your Master''s in?" And I have to say, "I only got a Bachelor''s, I just took the scenic route."

My parents are really proud, can''t you tell?

Nope, I don''t have one either. I am retired from my dream job.

It''s not too late to get a college degree DF. Not that you need one, you have more knowledge than most recent college grads. If you went back to school, you could get a senior discount!! Heck at this point, you could teach the classes.
