am i the only person on earth that''s NOT a member on FB?

I''m not. I''m just a really private person and there''s not many people I''d want to be in contact with anyway.

I''m not a member. It''s too easy for ID thieves to get your info. I won''t join MySpace or Twitter either.

No, DH nor I are on Facebook, Myspace or Twitter. All of my friends have given up on sending me those invites as it irritates me.

Actually, I think I am the dinosaur as I DO NOT understand the concept at all of Twitter...anyone want to take a stab at explaining it???

Dancing Fire, does it surprise you at all that I, also, am not a member of Facebook? Does it surprise you that it took me a few moments to figure out to what you were referring with the initials, ''FB''? And, no, it isn''t because I haven''t been asked to join (numerous times). All my friends keep sending me invitations to join in order to see their photographs. I just don''t need that much stimulation. I also use my cellphone only in the car and for emergencies and I do not know how to text nor will I learn how to do so. I have shut down a lot of the byways on the Information Superhighway so that I can retain my sanity. I do not want everyone to be able to reach me all the time.

Deb, I can''t tell you how many times I said "me too" while reading your post. I didn''t immediately know what FB was either and I don''t have an account and I''m not opening an account. I get invited to literally every networking service there is out there (some I''ve never even heard of before) because I am the email liason to my entire marriage ministry and hundreds of couples have my email address. They figure after they''ve known my husband and I for a while and we''ve helped them through something, we''re "friends". Well in a sense, we''re are friends, I just don''t want to be anyone''s "friend" in that way.

I only use my cell phone for emergencies because my husband works long hours and I''m alone a lot. We have a house phone with voice mail, a business phone with voice mail, two cell phones with voice mail , five email accounts. How many messages and how much correspondence can one person handle in a day? And when I slack off in listening to messages I get "don''t you go through your messages"?
20.gif
Nope, I don''t need or want that degree of connectedness to anyone, except my husband
4.gif
. And after being the victim of identity theft this summer, I wouldn''t give a living soul my password to anything for any reason.

I''d love to be able to go to the supermarket without my cell phone ringing in my handbag.....

Neither me nor my FI are on FB. I''m glad you asked this question. I was beginning to feel the same way.

I signed up in college when it was brand new and novel (it certainly wasn''t yet the phenomenon that it is now). If I was older and missed it during college, I''m not sure if I would''ve signed up ever. As it is, I rarely go on it unless there''s something specific that I need to do (a friend tell me to look at their vacation pictures, I need to find someone''s address, etc).

Ok here is a different take.

FB is my life (not really). It''s my favorite iPhone app (besides eBay and Amazon) and I use it many many many times a day. My friends all use it, and I would never befriend my mother on FB (thankfully she doesn''t have one). It''s so easy to use and when you want to create an event that I know people will see, it''s through FB. Everyone I know uses FB on their phones and checks it several times a day. It''s like... public email? (Public to friends). I also LOVE it because it''s so easy to upload quick pictures from my phone to FB so people can see whatever funny/ crazy things we are getting into. It''s just a super easy way to stay in touch with people and to stalk their page without having to talk to them ;)

OK, now part of me REALLY hates FB. Since FB, people don''t call anymore or use email as much. It''s always, "Did you see my comment on FB?" or "Didn''t you get my invite on FB?" I feel like I HAVE to obsessively check FB through my phone otherwise I''m going to get in trouble for missing out on things. *sigh* Also, when I want to just have a weekend to myself and not do anything people have gotten so used to inviting through FB or whatever, I feel like I''m always running around because I''m invited to so many things and cant say no. That''s probably more of a personal problem...

But if you want to take it further, my phone is glued to me. I always misplace it though and feel naked without it. Sometimes I wish I could just toss it in the garbage because I get, "WHY DID YOU IGNORE MY CALL?" or "DIDN''T YOU LISTEN TO MY VOICEMAIL?" Everyone is so used to getting ahold of me I feel like I''m my own 24hr receptionist, and it really is 24 hrs!!! People text and call me all hours of the day/night. So I put my phone on silent, and then I get, the above whining or "Call me when you wake up, asap." Then it turns out to be something trivial.

Sometimes I want time to myself! But, I still love my gadgets and technology, I just wish it was easier to turn them off. I think back to the days that I only had a PAGER haha... What did people do without the internet social sites and cellphones that do everything? Jeez. They probably had lives.

Some other ladies in my office practically forced me to sign up a couple months ago. I glance at it from time to time but still don''t understand this teenagers checking it every hour, and spending long periods of time there.

I'm all for technology and do kind of like Facebook. However I think Twitter is the most ridiculous concept in the world. Why would I want to read text message length posts by people I don't care about? Or even people I do care about; in their case, I think more than 140 characters is required to know what's going on in their lives. I think Twitter will be gone in a few years when people realize how worthless it is.

I am a member even though I fought against it for the longest time. I''m all sucked in because of Mafia Wars.
Haha, DH is the same. He didn''t want to joint at first and now he''s Mafia Wars biggest fan!

I have a FB account which i check maybe once a week or so. Not really my thing but I have friends who I don''t see as often as I''d like, so FB definitely helps.

I guess I''m the outsider. I''ll admit it. I''m completely and utterly addicted to facebook. I work at an internet company and usually have fb running in the background (nearly everyone does that works there, they all grew up in the "facebook era"). I have moved 13 hours from all friends and family and sometimes the only time I can catch them to talk is when they are on facebook chat. I absolutely positively DESPISE talking on the phone. Fi knows this and thinks it''s weird but I don''t care. Wanna chat? Skype me, text me, facebook chat me or email me. Also so many people I know have facebook and didn''t rsvp to our wedding on time. I was successfully able to hunt each and everyone down and get an answer out of them almost immediately!

Probably not, but my dad just became a member to see pics and videos of our 15 months daugther.

I have a problem with facebook. I use it but I am quickly losing interest. It''s worse than myspace because you''re given a false sense of security. SUCKS.

No. I do not participate in FB, My Space, or any other online ''networking'' club. I really only participate here on PS, and I am pretty anonymous, which is how I like it.

I always wonder if we get any movie stars who lurk here lol I mean this IS the best place to research diamonds if you don''t want to just hand someone a million dollars and assume it''s going to be the best thing ever.

nope I am not on it

Have no real desire to be on it either.

see *diamond* (or professional) networking I get... you don''t have to get personal

DH joined FB when it first started and then a couple years later I joined. Didn''t use it much at first, but then all our friends started getting FB accounts also and now we really use it mostly to stay in touch with friends we rarely see. I don''t update it often, but I like seeing what others are up to.

I have two accounts
25.gif
I just think it is a really great way to stay in touch. It is also so much easier uploading pictures of DD to one place instead of e-mailing a bunch of people.

Me too, as you know, T. By the way, I love the pumpkin patch pics!

I''ve never seen MySpace or Twitter, and I don''t think I ever will. I actually just got onto FB last year when I was really bored during an ice storm. I don''t update it as much as my friends want, but I do check it out to see what they''re up to.

I''m not a member. (I''m 24 and everyone assumes I must be)

No FB, no linkedIn. Nothing. (except PS)

My mother isn''t a member either. Just uses her husband''s account if she has something she needs to do.

You have it worse than I do, gemgirl :-). One of the values of being in any group (in this case Pricescope) is that you get to see that other people are in worse situations than you are! You make me feel grateful that I am only as overwhelmed as I am!!!

Hugs,

I''m not a member.

I got a lot of pressure to join.
I finally caved in about a month ago.

During registration it asked for the password for MY EMAIL ACCOUNT!
29.gif

I got so put off that I reached over and turned off my computer immediately.

I have subsequently learned there probably was a place where in the fine print it said giving PW was optional.
Apparently they used ask for email passwords.
The point is that FB looks in your email address books for matches to help connect more people.
It''s kind of creepy.

Anyway apparently I got through enough of the registration procedure that I did get a membership which I promptly terminated.
They do not allow you to terminate immediately.
You have to NOT login for 2 weeks after you terminate before the account goes away.
Even that is annoying.
That is like a heroin addict checks into rehab so they put you into a room with needles and heroine for 2 weeks and you only get treatment if you abstain.

I am not a member of Facebook so there are 2 or 3 of us on the planet.
35.gif
Why would Facebook or any other networking website ask for people''s passwords to anything including an email account? And all those people who have already signed on, gave the FB people their passwords? OMG!!!

The answer to your question is in my post.

I know a lot of people who are not on Facebook, you''re definitely not alone.

I''m on it and I really love it for sharing photos with my friends and family who aren''t local. My sister is in Israel for the year and I get to see all her amazing pictures really easily through facebook.

Facebook never asked me for any passwords to any of my email accounts, or anything else. I''ve never heard of that, and I would have been turned off by that, too.

I don''t befriend people with whom I''m not really close in real life, though, so I only have a handful of "friends" on there, and I set the account to keep all of my information private so only my "friends" can see it.

Technology isn''t scary when you understand how to use it. Promise.

The answer to your question is in my post.

Like Skippy said there is a SIMPLE solution to this. Open a new e-mail account (gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc) and use that in order to sign up for FB. That is if you really want a page.

I was in college when FB first started and at the time was limited to current students at a few colleges including mine. So I started one but never really got into it until a few years later, when I found that it was a fun way to waste some time and keep in touch with old friends whom I hadn''t seen in a while (including sharing photos with them). I still don''t have a Myspace page, and while I started a Twitter account (mainly just to see how it linked with FB), I never use it. I have a few friends who aren''t on FB, but most are. If you''re not on it, definitely give a serious thought to joining, because it''s not just a teenybopper thing (which I see as more of Myspace''s territory)...my mother and my septuagenarian grandmother has a FB account for example! And you can adjust your privacy settings so that only the people you want to see your info can do so.

Nope, sometimes I look for someone and that person STILL isn't on FB. What is wrong with them? Actually there is only one person I wish would join and that is because our kids are friends and it'd be fun to share photos. We all have bugged her to join, but she refuses. That's okay, because I see her in person, instead (which is always the way it should be, right?)

That aside, I was recently contacted by a person I NEVER talked to ONCE during HS. . .facebook is a funny place.
