Nope, you''re not. My 15 and 17 year old daughters have facebooks. Somehow I just can''t bring myself to get one although I know quite a few adults who have one.

I'm not a member.

I got a lot of pressure to join.
I finally caved in about a month ago.

During registration it asked for the password for MY EMAIL ACCOUNT!

I got so put off that I reached over and turned off my computer immediately.

I have subsequently learned there probably was a place where in the fine print it said giving PW was optional.
Apparently they used ask for email passwords.
The point is that FB looks in your email address books for matches to help connect more people.
It's kind of creepy.

Anyway apparently I got through enough of the registration procedure that I did get a membership which I promptly terminated.
They do not allow you to terminate immediately.
You have to NOT login for 2 weeks after you terminate before the account goes away.
Even that is annoying.
That is like a heroin addict checks into rehab so they put you into a room with needles and heroine for 2 weeks and you only get treatment if you abstain.

I am not a member of Facebook so there are 2 or 3 of us on the planet.

Probably not, but many of us are... My kids even friended me!!!! Woohoo!!!! I get to see all their pics, I love that!!
I didn''t join with my real name. I so don''t need to hear from old high school chums. I did it mostly for people I know here and for a few select family members. So far it''s been a lot of fun.

You shoukd join DF!! You''re missing out!!!

I have a facebook account, along with Twitter and myspace

No. I do not participate in FB, My Space, or any other online "networking" club. I really only participate here on PS, and I am pretty anonymous, which is how I like it.

Aw, you must have a great relationship with your kids! I don''t think I''d friend my parents, haha, some of my friends have a twisted humor when it comes to wall posts, and it would probably freak out my folks.

I caved into pressure from my out of town siblings-in-law earlier this year. I sorta like it - but no myspace or twitter for me
3.gif

DF, you are still in the STONE AGE!

Kenny, that''s just so you can see if anyone in your address book is already on facebook - kind of a nice feature, actually. You can skip that step, and beyond that, I believe there is a privacy agreement and it only temporarily accesses your account. I''ve had to enter my password to sync several programs, and I''m not too worried about it.

DF - everyone is on FB. Get on the train. ;)

No, I do not have an account on facebook or myspace either. I like it that way. I just like PS, and like Tuckins, I try to keep my info pretty vague. ETA my husband does not participate in social networking sites either. so theres another 2 for the club

No, my 80 and 83 year old parents aren''t either

Kenny, I don't know about it looking through your email but you can set up a gmail account or something like that so that you don't use your primary email for FB. Also you can use a fake name if you prefer? You also can change some of your preferences. Let me see if I can find a great FB guide on privacy settings. hehe

Dancing Fire, does it surprise you at all that I, also, am not a member of Facebook? Does it surprise you that it took me a few moments to figure out to what you were referring with the initials, "FB"? And, no, it isn''t because I haven''t been asked to join (numerous times). All my friends keep sending me invitations to join in order to see their photographs. I just don''t need that much stimulation. I also use my cellphone only in the car and for emergencies and I do not know how to text nor will I learn how to do so. I have shut down a lot of the byways on the Information Superhighway so that I can retain my sanity. I do not want everyone to be able to reach me all the time.

Deb, I think that is why a lot of people do not participate in facebook because they feel too plugged in already. I know a few people who refuse to do it because they need their down time and don't want to be so accessible. I can see both sides and understand where people are coming from who feel this way. I read something the other day that people don't sleep as well being so plugged in (too much mental stimulation). I guess we all have our reason to have an account or not to.

I''m not a member of Facebook, Myspace, or Twitter.

So, NO, you''re not the only one!

Totally agree.
Besides, who has time?
Does anyone really want to know that much about my life?
Not to mention, I don''t take kindly to privacy violations and FB seems to have had some legal run-ins to that degree in their past. I know they are now resolved, but the point is that they are always looking for ways to use the info from their user''s accounts to do other things.
Nope, not for me.

I have myspace and facebook..I joined twitter b/c an etsy shop I like said there would be updates and such..but I didn''t really "get" it, so I was on it once and haven''t been back. I get irritated when I''m on those places and immediately people are Hi how''s it going whatcha doing howya been blah blah. I''m not a social butterfly. Some of them update their stuff all the time w/what they''re doing or how they feel and it was a little..juvenile.."So and So is...eating a peanut butter sandwich for a snack" "So and so is...enjoying a day off" duh, who cares? Sometimes I wanted to put on there "Missi is...taking a poop" or "Missi is..boinking her husband" Some of my friends would find that hysterical and see it for what it is, some not so much.

It''s kinda like being on the playground..2 of our friends have wigged out over the lamest things and deleted my brother from their friends list..it''s like "Hmph, I''m 5 and I don''t want to be your friend any more so pbbbtttt"

I am very lucky, we are very close... They tell me pretty much everything anyway... Open door policy and all. Not that I love everything they tell me, but better to tell me, than not!!!

And no, had FB been around when I was growing up no way would my Mom have had access to my page...

I''m not on there, but my husband signed up this week. Like he really needed something else to distract him from getting anything done.

Nope, I don''t have FB or Myspace and have no desire for either.

No, my fiance doesn''t have fb and thinks it is a waste of time.
I love it, but I don''t update it very often. I don''t have myspace but I do have a twitter account that I use for work only. The only thing I really like about FB is being able to keep in touch with my friends/family across the country, otherwise I probably wouldn''t bother either.

I am a member even though I fought against it for the longest time. I''m all sucked in because of Mafia Wars.

Ditto. I do check my daughter''s tweets, and then she accuses me of cyber-stalking her. Geese, I thought it was the point that anyone could read anyone else''s tweets. I''m pretty sure she doesn''t want me reading her FB posts either.

My mum is on facebook which I think is hilarious.

I have a younger brother who is still quite young and silly and his friends post all kinds of inappropriate and incriminating pictures and stories on his page. He is friends with my mum so I am constantly having to ask him to remove things before she sees them.
38.gif

I try to keep everything on my facebook as professional and non-incriminating as possible. I know there are employers who will check myspace and facebook pages as part of the hiring process. You can set most things to private but even just the image you pick as your display pic which is viewable by everyone can have a negative impact.

I told both my girls that the only way I would let them have Facebooks is if I knew their passwords. I don''t get on their FB''s very often but once in a while I do check to make sure everything looks OK.

I''ve had FB for years now -- it''s so handy to keep in touch with all of my friends in other countries. Much faster than writing individual emails, much more personal than writing bulk emails, and much cheaper than calling!

I think I preferred it back when you had to have a .edu email address to register though, simply because now everyone can join, it''s chock full of CRAP. I''m tired of all the quizzes, Mafia Wars junk, and farms/gardens/gifts/etc. It''s consuming so much time for some people that they''re missing out on experiencing REAL LIFE (which is NOT assisting in Russian/Chinese/South American mafia heists!).

If I lived in my hometown, I''m not sure if I''d be on there more than once a week.

nope I am not on it
Have no real desire to be on it either.
