I was wondering if I could get some averages that people have spent on wedding dress alterations. I want to spend $1000 or less total-- wedding dress AND alterations. How much should I plan to spend on just the dress in order to stay under that cap?

Also, I''m fairly tall (5''9"). Did any other girls about my height need to have their dresses hemmed or are they about the right length?

Thanks!

It depends on a ton of things, your body shape, the dress material, lace, beading, etc. Some people spend $0, some spend $500 on alterations. I think it''s best to tell your dress consultant your budget with alterations. That way she can help select dresses that are on budget based on the average cost of alterations for that dress ya know? The dress shop should be knowledgeable about it.

Hi!

Well, I am sorta close to the sample sizes! Well, actually the dress I bought was two sizes smaller than the sample, but i definitely don''t plan on spending much on alterations at all! I will probably have to get the bust taken in a little bit, but I have a corset back so that is going to help! If you really don''t want to spend much on alt''s, I reccommend a corset back! Check out a bunch of Maggie Sottero''s too! I only ended up spending $800 on my dress. It was between a Maggie and a Priscilla of Boston gown that was $2900. I figured if it was such a hard decision and I loved them both, I should save my a$$ some money!! Oh, I will have to have a bustle put in though - count on that!! Look online for styles you like (style names) and go to a boutique that offers dresses for every budget. I almost died when I found out my dress was pretty fair, I usually ONLY go for the super expensive stuff.. I lucked out!

Oh, also I''m 5''7" and most of the dresses were a bit long on me with heels.. so with your two extra inches you might be perfect in the height department. Depends on what size heels you wear.. I had on about 3-4" pumps!

Good idea! I''m sure they''d know more about it and could help me out :)

Thanks... I''ll be wearing 1" heels or flats :) So I guess I should plan on hemming!
