Just wondering if anyone here loves a good wig?

I do! About two years ago one of my friends started buying and wearing wigs which I thought was completely unnecessary and wanted no part of but then she brought some over and we had sooooo much fun trying them on. I’m hooked!!! It’s just such a fun, easy and cheap way to change your hair!

I’ve been collecting quite a few. They are super cheap and my most expensive one is only $40 aud.

Hehe I have had a few mishaps. I was in a tute, speaking to a tutor and she was looking at me rather intently but then trying to look away. After the lesson I realised my wig had shifted and was in a really strange position on my head because I hadn’t picked the correct sizing hooks that day. Heee. I wear a different wig every week to that class just to amuse myself.

Wondering if any other PSers are also into wigs?

Here are some of mine:

Love your hair @mellowyellowgirl
And Ha. Yes. I buy human hair and have quite the collection. It’s super expensive but somehow I’ve amassed a large collection. I rarely wear but have fun when I do. I apologize in advance for all the photos. This is but a small part of my hair collection. Hope you enjoy mellow

Posting from my phone so not sure how this will post because I can’t space out the photos sorry

Omg yours look awesome @missy!!!!

Do you have a favourite?

I’m about to try something called a lace front that’s supposed to look more natural!

When I first started it was a disaster with wigs falling off as I walked around the house. Now I’ve got the hang of it (uni mishaps aside!)

Thank you ❤️

Most of mine are lace fronts. I have trouble keeping them flat and they look tinted on me because I’m so pale so I cut bangs in most of them.

Hard to pick a fave because I love the headband wigs as they’re super easy to wear. But I prefer the look of the full wigs. If I had to choose:
These are both European hair and the naturally wavy one is very similar to my bio hair. Let me know what you think of the lace fronts. You want transparent fine lace.

@missy when you get the lace wig, is there a flappy lace bit that you need to cut off? I see people hack it off on YouTube and I’m super chicken that I’m going to wreck the wig!

Haha you are like my friend who trims, straightens etc does all kinds of things to her wigs and they look great! I’d probably end up giving it an Asian bowl cut!

Yours look super natural to me! Haha you should have seen my first wig! It was such a poor choice it sat high on my head and I had this egg shaped bump!

Yes! You’ll want super sharp scissors to cut the lace so it won’t fray. Some use pinking shears but it can cause fraying so I don’t use those anymore. I’ll get a link for you showing what I do use. . I hope this works. I’m so tech challenged lol

Also tons of videos on YouTube how to cut the lace. I’ll find some for you later

You don’t want to cut straight because it’ll look fake.

And thanks! I find rhe more expensive alternative hair looks the most natural. I started out with synthetic hair and on me they didn’t look natural but there are tricks to make them more appealing

Thanks so much @missy! I will let you know how it pans out! I’m always after the curls so it’s a quest to get medium length curls!

My latest cheapie wig! I just want curly hair!!! Have a few more on order! They are so much fun.

Hehe I went and looked at higher end SYNTHETIC wigs (not human hair, didn’t even go there), just synthetic and some were thousands of dollars!

But I did pick up some awesome wig wearing tips on YouTube!

I really am shameless. In the same vein that I wear ridiculous rings and colours that may not suit me, I don’t even care if my wig is wiggy as long as I feel like a doll in it. And I do with all these curls!!! I want all the curls!!!

Be very careful lol. I have spent more on wigs these past 18 months than bling! And that’s a lot
It is addictive!

@mellowyellowgirl my sweet friend knitted me a kitty hat and made a bandfall for me! It arrived yesterday but I had no time to try them on…I’ll share when I do. How sweet is she? I’m touched at her thoughtfulness ❤️

The kitty hat is adorable ❤️
We are both animal lovers to the max
She also does tnr like my dh and I do and cares for her ferals
She’s such a love
She also sent kitty treats for our indoor cats

She made me a video showing how to wear it
Here’s a screenshot

She created this hat (and wig!) herself. I’m in awe because I can’t do anything like this

That is absolutely adorable @missy!!!! I can’t wait to see it in you!

Pictures are a must Bron!!! Even if you block out your face!!!

You can do anything! I even tried on a full blonde wig al la Rose from Black Pink (well she dyed her hair but you get the idea).

Oh I can see this happening Missy! My friend has 28!!! Granted they are from Taobao but if you buy the high end stuff I can see it costing a fortune!

These look great and so realistic! Are they hot or itchy or anything like that?

Not itchy at all and I’m prone to itch. I can’t for the life of me wear anything linen or linen blend.

It is warm for summer but Australia is VERY hot in summer! I’d say that on a normal day it’s fine just that we reach temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius and that’s just too hot for anything. The rig itself is very breathable.

I don’t use the wig caps though. I don’t like them. I just plait my hair into pigtails and tuck the pigtails under the wig (got this tip from YouTube).

Haha I love love love the kitty hats. They are so much fun

This is the first kitty hat I bought and Nikki didn't even know how much I already love them. We were just on the same wavelength and she is planning on crocheting me another in a different color.

I know you didn't ask me but I thought I would share if it helps you...I have sensory issues and absolutely find many wigs to be itchy and hot. I only purchase medical cap wigs. It has a very comfy inside and is the most comfortable for someone with any kind of sensitivity

Here's the inside of one of the medical caps.
It is very soft and breathable unlike some of the other wig caps
By the term cap I am talking about the inside of the wig
I don't wear anything between the wig and my head

@mellowyellowgirl I decided to try on the bandfall my girlfriend created for me because I am procrastinating about starting the day...it is rainy and cold and very dreary here this morning and I am still in bed enjoying coffee. But decided to try it on and I love it. She is so talented. I think her bandfalls are nicer than the ones I buy from the professional vendors.

Please excuse my nightgown and my sleepy face

nikkibandfallmarch2025.png

And the hat she crocheted for me
It's not supposed to be worn over the headband so it's not sitting right but just to give you an idea
Sorry it's early here and I still waiting for my coffee to kick in lolkittyhatnikki.png

So the last photo that is the real hair or no? You have thick curly hair! As do I. So I’m very intrigued as to how you hide it when you wear the wigs.

That’s the bandfall my girlfriend made for me.
My own hair is much thinner unfortunately and why I started wearing alternative hair
I can’t do extensions due to my sensory issues and wigs are easier but there’s a large learning curve and I’m still learning

I make a ponytail then pin it into a bun and put the wig on..the pony holds it in place

Here’s how I wear my real hair. Never down anymore because it looks awful
My ferritin is 12 which is impacting my hair but due to a genetic mutation I can’t take iron

Your natural hair still looks really good @missy!!!!

I’ve always had very “meh” fine, limp hair. Even in my prime it was just ok and never lived up to the flowing locks they describe in novels.

I’ve also got this weird thing about hair dye (I think it’ll kill me, I know other things will probably kill me first but this is also tedious so I don’t go to the hairdresser for a dye job) and I’m super lazy so don’t want to dye my hair. I mix this jar of henna, keep it in my fridge and slap it on my greys once a month which means my normal hair looks…..interesting.

The wigs make me feel so pretty! For once in my life I can swish my flowing curls around.

Girl, I totally get this and agree. I stopped coloring my hair because it’s just so temporary and too much work. I did it myself with temporary dye no ammonia low peroxide but I decided enough was enough.

Unfortunately I don’t have that pretty gray. Well that’s not true. It’s pretty…
pretty awful:lol:

With alternative hair we can make our hair dreams come true ♥️

Haha I was explaining to my son the other day: Some people have gorgeous grey hair or beautiful soft fully white hair. With my luck little dude, it’s going to look like an unwashed mix of dirty salt and pepper so I’ve got to stock up on the wigs and try them out.

Umm yes. On point. You’ve described my hair purrrfectly lol

But maybe yours won’t be like that
See what happens

The reason I went to alternative hair was because I got tired of no options.
I was wearing it back 100% of the time
Now I have options
And options are good

I try wigs and hairpieces now and then due to thin hair that's gotten even thinner with age. I agree, Missy, that there's a steep learning curve.

I am not an expert but I would be more than happy to help if I could.
I have been on this steep learning curve for many many months and happy to share anything I known with you about this topic
