Hi Ladies!

I am in need of some advice from someone who sews or knows wedding dresses. I am about to order the dress below. I would like to have a bolero made out of the overlay fabric. The bridal salon that I am getting my dress from says that we can order the longest dress (61") cut it and re-attach the bottom trim and use the rest of the fabric to make the bolero. It is going to be a small bolero-just something to make me feel less naked.

Any thougths on this?
Other measurements that you might be interest in:

dress comes in 3 hollow to hem measurements 55", 58", and 61"
I am 4''11" and weight 100 lbs (so that you know about how big the bolero needs to be)

I am looking to have them make a cap sleeve bolero.

Any thoughts, ideas, and/or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I would really worry that ordering the hollow to hem at the longest measurement would throw off the proportions of the whole dress on you, i.e. the flare would start around your ankle instead of your knee, so when they take off the extra material, you''ll lose all the fabulous shape of the dress.

I would suggest trying to contact the designer to see if you can purchase extra material that is not already connected to your dress.

I agree with Sabine.

I wanted to chime in and say I already spoke to the designer, they do not offer the fabric

If the were the order the longest lenght, couldn''t they just alter it to fit as in the picture?

Thanks again!

It would probably cost a lot to have it altered from a 61" length to someone 4''11", if it would even come out right, since the beading accents different parts of the dress. I''m not sure the extra length would even produce enough fabric to make a bolero.

Can you order an extended train instead, and then just shorted the train? Then the fit would be the same.

Thank you Sabine, Mustangirl, and Bensbride. Your guidance was very much appreciated!

I wouldn''t do it. Period. Why don''t you get a bolero made from a similar fabric or lace? Or get a wrap or pashmina?

That dress has a ton of beading on it, and the shape is going to be all off if you''re that tiny and order a dress that is that big.

I''d be looking for another dress if I was that concerned with being covered up.

Sabine is right. Don''t do it.

It will throw the proportions off and make alterations to fit the dress more complex and expensive.

I agree with everyone--picture yourself buying a pair of bell-bottoms really long, then cutting them shorter--you would loose all the bell. Don''t do it!

Do you think it would be possible to find a satin that closely matches the hem ruffle? Since there would be a whole dress between the color could be a *little* bit different. You could possible edge it, or in some way add a very tiny ruffle to have it echo the bottom ruffle so it looks like it shares the same design elements. Does the designer have any options, I think some are more understanding of churches requiring more coverage. Gosh, you don''t look like you are under 5'' tall! Good luck! You look beautiful in that dress, it is a very flattering fit.
