Saturday night cocktail party at the company president's house. Cocktail dress attire, central Illinois, 40 degrees cold.
I am typically one to overdress at events because I can't help myself. I don't mean wearing a prom dress, I mean putting a green and teal feather hairpiece above my ear. This year I'm going to try and tone it down a bit. My dress is more a dolphin blue than the plain blue it shows in the picture. The safe thing to do is wear black tights, black heels, and rhinestone earrings. My inner fashionista keeps wondering what the dress would look like with a different belt, or plum tights or a black and yellow chunky necklace. Help!

I think plum tights and black ankle boots would be great! But otherwise, because of the stripey effect, probably minimal on the accessorization.

Um, do you have pics of the feather incident?

How bout something bold/bright color on the belt and bracelet?

Unfortunately no. The only picture of me that night was taken of the ''other'' side of my head.

What about doing bright shoes and bag/necklace? But stay with the black tights?

What color? Yellow? Purple?

When you say dolphin blue, is that more on the grey side?

ETA: If it's more grey, I think you could get away with yellow.

Braver woman than me, but I think it would look cool!

If you want to be a little more subtle, what about silver shoes/belt?

It''s more like this

NICE. I would totally rock the yellow accessories.

What about red violet tights, black shoes, black belt and multi-color big earrings?

I would stick with black tights. Colored tights would be to much. I think fuschia or magneta shoes would be fun.

ETA: I would also like a thicker belt with the dress.

Ditto on the sticking with black tights.

It''s your company president. This is NOT when you rock your individuality. Basic black dress, pearls, understated earrings.

The pick of your dress is very nice. Keep it simple.

Absolutely agree. If you go out afterwards, bring your fun accessories to change into. Really cute dress!

I think the dress itself shows enough individuality. It''s beautiful. Save the funky colors for a date or night out with your girls.

I do agree to keep it simple and I will. I just didn''t want to blend in with the sea of Stepford LBDs. At least, that''s what it looks like every year which is why I got a blue dress

I think you could rock the yellow, but I still stand by silver as a safe, and still mildly interesting alternative. *shrug*
