A very sad injured whale

They suspect a ship may have struck this humpback whale near Hawaii, breaking its back.
It apparently cannot move it's fluke (tail).

That happens here occasionally. That's why it was such a big deal (probably nobody remembers this or even heard of it but) the previous administration exempted the so called "super-ferry" from an environmental review. Then the legislature passed a law specifically exempting this one company from environmental review. Finally (and thankfully) our Supreme Court struck down this law and the "super-ferry" people and their ships left. They were just going to go cruising fast over waters with whales in them and run them down. They could care less. I doubt they thought they could pass the environmental review. I bet that's the reason they jumped through all of those hoops to act like they were above the law. Outrageous and disgusting on their part. My mother and I were talking and she said, "Don't you have a ferry service there? It seems like you should." I had to explain to her that we did for a short time and why it wasn't a good idea. She thought it seemed like a no brainer but it's actually not true. The environmental costs would be unacceptable.

That's a gruesome picture. That's really too bad.

So today I read that they think this whale might have scoliosis. I'm not sure I believe that. I'm not sure it would have survived as long and I've never heard of a whale with scoliosis before. In any case, I think this story is being covered in the Honolulu Star Advertiser. I'm sorry but I don't have a link.
