There was a photo that I didn't see the first time around reprinted in, "The New York Times". As some of the comments posted by reders say, whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, regardless of your race, whether or not you like Mr. Obama, you have to see the humanity in this photo.

"The boy in the picture is Jacob Philadelphia of Columbia, Md. Three years ago this month, his father, Carlton, a former Marine, was leaving the White House staff after a two-year stint on the National Security Council that began in the Bush administration. As departing staff members often do, Mr. Philadelphia asked for a family photograph with Mr. Obama."

Read the brief article for more on how it came to be taken.

Wonderful, moving and historic.

Thanks for sharing.

Awww, I love this photo.

This picture speaks volumes.

Deb, have you ever seen the documentary, "The Lottery", about the charter school lottery in Harlem? This pic reminded me of a scene in that film, that is also in the trailer (can be seen 1:10 in the following video):

I watched the YouTube clip to which you provided the link, but was left with an empty feeling! I really wanted to have an idea of what, "The Lottery" said, which of course, I couldn't get from that little advertising piece! Thanks for posting it, LAJennifer. I had not seen it before.

I love this photo! I saw it on the first go round but I loved seeing it again!

What a great photo!

Really sweet photo.

Deb:

Thanks for posting it - that photo, and the quotes from some of the more jaded as to what that photo represents, made my day.

I love it that he said "touch it, dude".

so sweet! :halo:

That is a very touching photo. Makes him seem human, not aloof. That poor little kid will be reminded of that for ever!!! I can see his parents talking it up at his wedding, years from now! "remember the time you asked the President of the United States, if you could touch his head?"

Well...that would not be quite accurate. I think he simply asked whether the president's hair felt like his! It was Mr. Obama, in his wisdom as a parent, who let him find out for himself rather than simply telling him.
