I don't want to hijack another thread, so I'm starting a new one.

In the Walmart thread someone mentioned that the produce in small neighborhood stores in NY is fresher than the stuff at the big box stores. So my question is where do these small stores get their produce in the winter? We spend the winter in FL and all the produce in the local Publix tastes better than winter produce in Michigan, but people assure me that most of it is foreign, so I think it's in my mind.
Also, DH tells me that the chicken broth I buy at the dollar store comes from China. Is this true?

I'm trying to understand more about where food comes from.

Most of the produce in FL in winter in Publix is foreign. I'd recommend going online and looking to see if there's a farmer's market in your area when you are down here. The produce is usually amazing year round! At least that's my experience where I live.

I don't buy meat at Publix. I get mine at a local super market that sources theirs from local farmers. I like it a lot better. That or eat what we hunt and fish. :wavey:
