I spotted a very nice ring today - as it was waved across my face by the nurses aid taking my vitals....

It was a fairly simple gold band with a decrotive twist pattern and 5 channel set diamonds... very well done (much better than most).

I complemented her on the ring - and made her day (her husband gave it to here on their 5 year aniversary).

Wish I had a picture of it - but life being what it is I had no camera with me; and I''m not likely to meet her again (at least I hope not).

So how not to spend Labor Day Weekend ... In the hospital.

I''m OK, but Sat afternoon that was very questionable as I suddenly developed a pulsing migran headach on my right side - and then my face and jaw started to go numb on the right side as well..... So off to the hospital with a possible stroke I went.

No stroke was detected, the ultrasound showed my heart and heart valves to be in very good shape, my cartoroid arteries to be in very good shape, the cat scan and MRI shows no brain issues typical of a stroke, and assorted other test for stoke (or TIA''s).

Diagonsis is Trigeminal Neuralgia - which is a nerve problem; and in my case caused by the close proximity of a major blood vessel to a specific nerve on the side of my face; and as we change (and age) it has become close enough to affect the nerve.

The Dr''s were really pleased on this - got lucky on this (most people with my base symptoms are having a stroke or at least a TAI).

Why it first showed up on Sat afternoon - and in such a major way: Who knows.

2 days in the hospital (so much for plans); but got to see a nice ring - and make someone really happy.

Have a great day,

Perry

Sounds like a beautiful ring! Glad there is no stroke. But dust your way so you can regain strength and good health again Perry.

Perry: I''m so glad you''re able to post about your trip to the ER, and that you and your doctors got a (relatively) painless warning of that you have this condition!

Is it treatable?

Enjoy the remainder of your holiday!

Oh dear! So glad you didn''t have any life-threatening issues... How do they treat the nerve disorder you have?

Is it treatable?

Thanks for the question VRBeauty & Tuckins1.

Oh, the condition is far more common with women than men (extreem pain from touching a part of the face or head is the most common forms of it).

Yes, first thing to try (and what is usually successful) is to take a drug to desensitize the nerves. The drugs that work are typically anti-seisure medications.

If that does not work they can often surgically relocate the vein.

Sounds like a beautiful ring!

Thanks D&T. Thats why I posted.

Have a great day,

Perry

Hello Perry

I'm sorry to hear you've had to spend the holiday in hospital. I hope you feel better soon.

I don't know if you remember my "Monster" threads?: I had Trigeminal Neuralgia (a.k.a. The Monster) which was successfully treated this January with a neurosurgery. (I'm not sharing that to scare you!) But just to let you know that this condition IS treatable. And, not everyone has ongoing pain, sometimes it's a one-time occurrence.

I just wanted to offer my shoulder should you ever need it. Feel free to ask any questions you like. And, I have a couple of good website links for you if and when you're ready to investigate further.

Wishing you a pain free day.

LS

Feel better Perry! Even in the most dire situations, in the hospital, you''re still on the lookout for diamonds

My thoughts exactly! Take care and prayers coming your way!

Sounds like a really pretty ring-too bad you had to be in the hospital to see the dang thing! Sending you lots of healing dust and positive thoughts!

Perry, glad it wasn''t a stroke! Hope you feel better soon! Try not to spend any more holidays in the hospital! Here''s to hoping it is all behind you and goes away
forever!

Goodness, Perry, that sounds really frightening. Glad to hear that it wasn''t a stroke! And it''s too funny that, even while in the hospital, you still took the time to notice some nicely made bling.

Good morning Perry.

I hope your pain is reasonable today.

Here are a couple of legit links to neuro sites. Might help if you want to look into TN further. I found them helpful, though sometimes it''s good to read through them with a *filter* as some posters can be a bit over the top on occasion in their self diagnosis and diagnostics of others...

Lots of material in these. The sticky notes at the top of each are both very good.

Perry glad you had good news (no stroke). I had Trigeminal Neuralgia around 19 yrs ago...suffered from a sharp pain on one side... tingling and numbness too. Good news is...I haven''t had any of these symptoms in many years. I still get the numbness once in a while but not to the point that it makes my face droop. It was so long ago I barely remember what we did for it..but I know it eventually went away!

GL and feel better

yikes, glad to hear it wasn''t a stroke
Take care of yourself!

Thanks Lost Sapphire (and I love good blue Sapphires). Also thanks for you links. I will follow up on them later (and had looked at several other links that the hospital provided). For now - I''ve got medication and massage therapy for starters. Follow-up Dr Apts later (with several Dr''s). I also have to get to work today yet (having had another Dr apt for my sore shoulder first thing this AM - nothing really wrong and Physical Therapy recommended to streach things out and get it working right again: the X-ray technitial for my sholder this AM was the same one called in on Sunday for my head X-ray - checking to ensure there was no metal fragments burried in my head from an old injury prior to MRI).

I was aware you had problems - but did not follow your Monster threads in detail. I am glad that you finally got the surgury to resolve the issue.

I figured that many people on pricescope would be disapointed if I wasn''t on the lookout for good bling... regardless of the situation. So now you know that not only do I look for good looking ladies, smart ones that can hold a good converstaion... that I also notice good bling... I hope I''m not to strange as a guy for you....

It is amazing in that it was really just a very simple design - but so well executed that it stood out. I think it is easier to hide less than perfect work in a complex pattern - which is why you see so many paterns.

Simple can be stunning if well executed. In retrospect I should have asked who the jeweler was.

atroop711:

Glad to here that you are doing OK with it. We''ll just have to see what the future holds for me.

strmrdr: Thanks, I will. I still think we should get together and go shooting some day (and any of the gals can join us if they want. I am sure that betwen karl and i that we have enough guns and ammo).
I should head off to work now.

Perry

oh gosh Perry I hope you feel better soon, how scary!

Hi Perry

Just checking in to see how your facial pain is doing. Hope the meds are effective.

LS

Hi Perry,
Hopefully the meds work for you! Glad it wasn''t a stroke! Hope your doing better.

Perry, I''m sorry to hear you had such a trying weekend! I''m glad that it wasn''t a stroke.

The ring sounds lovely--it sounds like you really brought some joy to the nurse by complimenting her on it!

Thank you all who have been concerned about my health. While I initially focused this thread on the nice ring I saw... the other support has been appreaciated.

Currently I still have some numbness in the side of my face.

The biggest problem is that the drug they have me on makes me drowsey and affects my ability to think clearly and get things done. I just got up from sleeping 11 hours - and will probably take a nap after breakfast...

As such, I have found it difficult to post anything on any of the forums I normally frequent (I even find it difficult to follow anything but the light and whimsical stuff).

I have a follow-up apt with the neurologist on Tuesday where I will ask about other medications - or other long term solutions.

Another major side affect is that I''m too tired to do my normal swimming (3x per week, 1/2 hour + of steady laps). That is not good either.

Thanks again, and have a great weekend.

Perry

Perry - I hope you are better.

My mother had Trigeminal Neuralgia as well. In her case, no cause was actually found and it spontaneously disappeared after about a year. She took some pretty heavy duty medication at the time to control the pain.

A word of advice: see a pain specialist to control the pain. This is a very specialized area and there is plenty of trial and error (my mother changed medications about 4 times and the dosages were adjusted minutely to both control the pain ad avoid drowsiness and side effects).

Best of luck!
