Hi all! My wedding is fast approaching (October 4) and I have a question about ''announcements'' or something like that! (Great, I don''t even know what my question IS!)

Background - Our wedding is at a hotel, both ceremony and reception. Wedding at 5:30, Cocktail hour at 6:30, Reception and Dinner start at 7:30. We are having ceremony musicians for the ceremony and cocktail hour, and a band for the reception. Our band will start after dinner, around 8 until 12 pm. The only question and stressful part about this is there isn''t anyone to do the typical DJ ''announcements''. Like, who will introduce us? Who will tell people we are cutting the cake? The father daughter dance, ect...??

Part of me wants to just walk in the reception w.o the huge hoopla, my dad will do the ''thank you for coming speech'' and my cousin will do the blessing before dinner... Do I need a friend to stand up and direct things, or do people generally know what''s going on?

I am so clueless, any help would be appreciated!!!

I would contact the band and ask if this is something that they can do. You can give them a schedule of when you would like to do all of these things and they can announce it.

Yea, I was thinking that too - but I think that counts as them working? I wonder if we would have to pay more for that??

Thanks for the help :) We are swapping posts!

Jules-

That should be part of the band''s responsibilities, sweetie!!! About a week before our wedding, our band leader contacted us to iron out the details, e.g.- Will we be announced into the room? Whom is giving a speech? What are their names? What is our wedding song? This is part of the bands job, and the band leader took care of all of that. You need to have a serious talk with them, girl!!! They charge a bundle- that should come along with the package!!!!

Yes, somebody needs to coordinate the flow of events at the reception. Otherwise, especially if it is a big reception, people will be absorbed in their conversations and won''t even notice that you''re cutting the cake, doing the first dance, etc.

See, I really need help guys!!! :)

I will see what the band says - My FI is in charge of this aspect and that is why I have no idea what is going on!!!

From what I''ve seen, bands generally have a designated MC. This person is the overseer for the event. They know what announcements to make, when to call everyone for the cake, garter & bouquet toss, and when to play music, and what music is played. Talk to the band and find out their plan for your event.

God, I am hopeless!

Love you guys, thanks!
