So, I usually walk to school, but today we had to take our yearbook photos (why yearbook photos are necessary in grad school is beyond me...but that''s another rant!) and I didn''t want to be all sweaty/snowed on for my photo. My DH was sweet enough to offer to give me a ride (he usually walks to work as well). But, we get to the car, and the side window is COMPLETELY smashed!

Someone broke into our car, rifled through everything (can a car be ransacked?), smashed the interior dome light (Why? is it that difficult to turn off?) and left without taking anything (huh?). We didn''t have anything valuable in the car besides our stereo and a pair of chanel sunglasses, both of which were left.

The police officer said they probably saw our iPod cable, figured there was an iPod in the car and went searching for it. I had told my husband COUNTLESS times to hide the cable for that exact reason, and of course he brushed me off...."Oh you''re paranoid!" Argh!

I spent all morning dealing with the police/insurance. Luckily insurance covers the glass, but not the light they broke. According to Toyota it will be $150 to replace!! (I''m talking about that little tiny light...above your head...goes on when you open the door..). Yikes...guess we are going to the junkyard....

Oh no! That's such a bummer RZ, sorry it happened to you.

I had my window smashed 2 years ago because of an ipod adapter. They took DH's new ipod but left my old one (both were in the center console). It just plain sucks!

Yea, but was it a good hair day?

Sorry about your car. Can you find a replacement for the mini light on an online site? Maybe hunt around first!

I''m so sorry you experienced that rockzi. That happened to me when I lived in the city. I went out one morning to get into my car to drive to the train and the front passenger side window was smashed. They didn''t take anything from inside my car because I''m usually careful not to leave anything valuable inside except for my prescription sunglasses, but they did remove/unscrew some accessories from the outside of my car. Thankfully I had full glass coverage but replacing what they stole from the outside had to come out of my pocket. It cost me just a little bit less than my $500.- deductible

Oh, Rockzilla! What an awful scene to come across.

I too had my car broken into, via the passenger side window as well during winter. I lived in NYC at the time, and entered the car and glanced to my right and thought, Huh, I don''t remember spilling a cup of ice on my passenger seat, amazing how it stayed frozen. Hey, and why is my stereo faceplate case doing on the passenger seat? My second thought was the dawning realization that I must have a pure, pure heart to be so naive. Golly! My car had also been ransacked, but they had found nothing. My *guess* is that they saw a BMW with an upgraded stereo with detachable faceplate, figured I was like the 90% of owners who just detach and hide under the seat or in the glovebox (like they figured with your husband and the ipod cord, grrrrr), and took a shot. I remember feeling violated-- a criminal had been *inside* my beloved car!-- and felt terrible for that little inanimate object I loved so much to have been abused like that. Fortunately, I found a window place that replaced the window for $60 if I paid cash (ahhh, New York), so I didn''t have to bother with insurance.

Which begs the question: why on earth is your insurance deeming the dome light not eligible for coverage anyway?

Oh no! That feeling when you realize what happened is the worst!

Maybe ebay or Craigslist would have the light for cheaper?

That sucks Rockzilla!!!

Hubby is always telling me to hide the ipod cable, but then he doesn''t think twice about the leaving the console open - with the cable attached to the ipod in it!!

Ugh, sorry to hear that. They probably heard something and got scared before they could actually grab something. I guess just try to focus on all the positives that come with living in a city. I''m actually surprised an officer even came out. In our city, there is just a voicemail service for vehicle break-ins and vandalism because it is too common to warrant their time.

You should be able to find the light at a junkyard pretty easy. Either you can pay a fee and they will pull it for you at the junkyard or you can get it yourself and it will be very cheap.
