A Current Affair had its fall vintage expo in Brooklyn this weekend, 10/13-10/14. I went the first day and paid for early admission at 10:00, before they let everyone in at noon.
Things got off to a rocky start with the staff being very disorganized and poor at crowd management. I gave feedback to one of them and his response was basically, leave if you don’t like it.
The show was primarily focused on vintage and antique clothing and accessories, with about 8-9 booths of vintage/antique jewelry. 6 were located in the center of the room and the rest scattered elsewhere. There was a lot of great eye candy though no real bargains. The quality varied and there was only one booth (Platt from LA) that I would consider on par with JBG, LAD, etc. They had a particularly beautiful Edwardian three-stone with antique cushion center flanked by two OECs. Sadly I didn’t get a clear shot.
I’d recommend going to their future shows if you like vintage clothing, but definitely pay for early admission unless you’re trying to score last-day deals. By 11:30 you had to elbow your way to the cases and there was a long line of more people waiting to go in. They have shows in LA, Richmond (near SF), and Brooklyn.
Victorian opal ring I got from Nomad Gold:
I played with a few things at the Platt booth. The owner, Larry, is a sweetheart and has a great eye for quality pieces. I found a doppelgänger of my crescent necklace there.
The rings at Nomad Gold were all fine antique or vintage:
