I'm pretty sure it also depends on where the tourist is from.

Yes, so true.
We Americans are loved everywhere we go.

This is probably because we realize that everyone understands English if you yell it slowly and loudly enough
How could anyone be rude to US?

Oh hai. I see you met the couple parked on the roadway I hit with my automobile.

Yeah, now I'm a little jaded. Newsflash, you (in general) might think this is "paradise" but folks who live here are just trying to survive like anywhere else. And you can leave your safari outfits at home, mkay? This isn't "Out of Africa".

I actually disagree with London placement in the chart.I never, ever found people as polite, kind and warm as Londoners! It kind of made me dread coming back to Italy...

England is the only country I've been to and everyone was very nice to me there.

The Brits can seem a bit cold initially compared with many other nationalities, but we are pretty nice to people I think - once you actually get someone to talk.

There is a bit of a 'no talking' thing on the Underground and public transport in general. A few years ago there was a campaign to stop it with people wearing badges saying 'Up for a chat on the tube' etc.

Funnily enough, if something goes wrong - train breaks down for example - people suddenly all start talking to each other.

I hope we are getting better at being tourists as well!

Someone said that expectations are also important. I went to Germany on holiday recently and came back suprised at how welcoming everyone had been. My daughter in particular was spoilt rotten by everyone - rarely left a shop or museum without chocolate or biscuits or other gifts. On the trains the conductors even had special 'child tickets' to stamp for them. Came away with a great impression, but feel slightly ashamed that I expected people to be cold and rude!

I was honesty baffled by the list. I have never been treated rudely by the majority of people *anywhere* I've traveled. Like Haven, I've come across rude people, but I've found mostly friendly, helpful people all across the globe! I think it just takes a little observation time and a little effort and you can usually make your way through a new country without being too obnoxious (which is what I find people respond the worst to, giving tourists the impression that wherever they are visiting is full of rude people). Dress yourself to match the formality of people you see (so no jeans and sneakers if everybody in the city you're in wears nice pants and shoes), always try to speak the language of the country you're in, and stop for coffee frequently to check your tour guide there. Nothing is more obnoxious than somebody taking up room on the sidewalk trying to figure out where they are and where they need to walk. A 15 minute stop to relax yourself, get your bearings, and people watch a bit can make a huge difference in whether or not you're perceived as a major PITA.
