I'd add an 11th - Do not get a cat if you are planning to get it declawed. Declawing a cat is not a minor surgery; it is a mutilation of the cat's paws that is comparable to amputating human fingers at the first joint. Most cat owners consider it inhumane, and it has been outlawed in some areas.
