Bibiloves... I haven't considered a payment plan, but if someone wanted to buy this stone with no return policy, I could probably allow like a 2-month long payment plan. But not a very long-term one. I could probably work with 25% chunks over two months.
MimB -- funny you should mention flatness. Of course this stone is not flat But I did have this convo with hubby last night. Pre-story -- I bought a 1.63ct OMC (which I'm in the process of returning right now because it just felt small somehow. And too elongated for my tastes. But beautiful and *white* [if anyone is interested I can direct you to to the ebay seller]). Anyway, I put them side by side and asked hubby if one looks bigger. He was like "Seriously? It's like comparing a salt shaker and a coffee mug. Obviously the round one is bigger." Then I asked him what differences he saw. He said the cushion felt "deeper" and he liked that. But the round was obviously more fiery He hit all the nails on all the heads
The stone looks much whiter out of the setting. I think I mentioned it above, but as much as I love yellow gold, I think the new owner should put it in white metal.
Here's a photo of the cushion and round side by side. The size difference doesn't really come through in the photo, but IRL it was striking. Maybe it's because the cushion is set and sitting a little higher off my finger than the round.
Just to clarify: I no longer have the cushion (had it for 2 days). It's on its way back to the very nice ebay seller.
SMTB thread coming up as soon as I have it back in my hands (early next week, I'm hoping). I'd say the new stone does not top this one. It's a 1.54ct K Si2. It's GIA report is much less impressive, it got called a Round Brilliant and only a "Fair" cut (poor baby!). But I love it in the setting and I think it looks "cuter" because it's less perfect. I'm a little weird in my diamond tastes, yes
OMG both of those stones are just beautiful! I didn't really notice a difference in size though. So, now you are still selling the round OEC and sent the cushion back? What are you replacing them with? I so wish I had the funds to buy the round but two kids in college and all that good luck. Lucky you to have those beautiful stones to admire side by side ahhh heaven
Pandabee -- When I first saw Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Elizabeth Taylor and the necklace (before PS, before I had any kind of spare cash to spend on jewelry), I followed that diamond necklace more than the plot I don't know why i didn't set the 1.3ct chipped OEC this way when I had the chance. I guess I got too carried away trying to make something that would match my earrings (and didn't quite succeed, anyway). Your beautiful necklace reminded me that this is the way to go for pendants
Sandeek -- You're right that the photo doesn't show the size difference, but it was there, and very noticeable. The cushion felt "small" the moment I opened the package and saw it, and the complete opposite with the 1.75 -- every time I see it after not looking at it for a while, my first impressions is "damn, this is a sizeable diamond."
As for which stone I'm keeping -- a 1.54ct K Si2 OEC in a 18k white gold vintage setting (with original vintage wedding band). I hope to post a SMTB thread soon, the stone is still at the jeweler getting set back in its setting after a visit to the polisher (polishing out of nicks and chips) and GIA.
Oh can't wait to see the finished product as you have such wonderful taste in diamonds. It must be stunning. I love the vintage rings. I am sure you are having trouble sleeping at night with the anticipation of your new set!
Oh Gem, funny how things come full circle!!! That was exactly my intention when I contacted you about chippy glad it went to another lovely LIW though! This stone of yours is so beautiful...I'm secretly going to be very sad if it sells because i would love to see it around your neck!!!!
