Hello all! I am back from being out of town so please excuse me for a bit while I catch up. In the meantime, did everyone have a great weekend?

Also,

Choro: Are you Japanese? I saw you mention Japanese Myspace! I am have an East Asian studies concentration at my college, that''s why I ask. I

Japan!

Erica: I hope you are doing better! Have you talked to your doctor yet about adjusting your medicine? Don''t worry we all get bad about the hygiene and cleaning sometimes. I need to floss for example..bad!

Hehe. I plan on doing a bunch of cleaning tomorrow. Oh and about gaining two lbs don''t worry, you''ll get back on it! This weekend I gained a few I know because I went to my Grandma''s and she had a bunch of Reese''s peanut butter eggs left from easter...and well..I ate..A LOT of them.

I swear every time I ate one two more appeared, haha. My Grandma very efficiently replaced them (unfortunately for me) and I continued to eat them.

I think there''s something catchy going around through this website. today I''m in bed with a cold. I''ve actually had a cold since Saturday. the thing with being sick is that you don''t feel as hungry as usual, but I still managed to eat healthy the whole weekend (no unhealthy snacks or Coke)... I just kept eating small portions at regular intervals so that my metabolism continues working the whole day and I also did my exercises. I lost 2 lbs. hopefully it will stay lost. last weekend it didn''t.

SarahLovesJS: not sure what cleaning you are talking about, but actually cleaning your house is supposed to burn a lot of calories. I don''t clean anymore as the only time I have for it is the weekends and FI would be upset that I''d be spending "us time" doing that so we got a guy to clean our place for us. no wonder HE''s staying thin...

does anyone do any calorie counting? seems quite complicated to me.

Hi! Sarah and Noel, I hope you both feel better soon. Nothing is worse than being sick when you feel like you need to get stuff done. It''s such a derailment.

I am back from my week of wedding planning, tastings and generally too much to eat and drink. Today is DAY ONE of the final push to the wedding! I have 95 days to go, and I have decided to make it my goal to have 40-50 workouts in that time period. I have a 15-minute walk to work each way, so to help me meet my goal, I''m going to call each walk to and from work a half workout, so provided I walk to and from work every day, that''s 2.5 workouts per week.

It may be a silly goal to attach a number, but it''s something I can easily keep track of, and it hits home how few days I have left to tone up!

So I started with my first workout in a MONTH today. I only did 30 minutes - 20 weights, 10 treadmill, but I thought I would puke by the end of it. Oh well, day one is over. I always feel like the first and second workouts are the toughest, and then you start to find a routine.

For lunch I''m going to have some fruit and a weight watchers frozen meal, and for dinner we''re going out, but I''m going to have a lobster salad with dressing on the side and only 1 piece of scrumptious bread.

Hooray for day 1!

Hi ladies! I''m just dropping in to plug this awesome DVD set that my FI has been using... it''s called P90X and it whipped his butt into amazing shape in about 3 months. The guy that does it is named Tony Horton and he has a bunch of sets, but this one is hardcore.

It does require some equipment... resistance bands and/or hand weights (FI has an adjustable set that goes from 5-90lbs.), and if you want to do EVERYthing you need a pull-up bar (I just skip that stuff when I do the vids with him).

Anyway, he has had a lot of success with it, so I figured I''d throw it out there for any brides (or grooms) who really like to work out as opposed to just diet and light cardio.

''Tis all

mine is nowhere as tough as Musey''s, but I follow the Nike PlayStation game toning exercises (plus warm up and stretches). it also has games that you can play with help of an EyeToy (camera that traces your every move to see if you are "hitting the balls that bounce around the screen" or other cardio/combat games like that) but I just do the toning bit. no equipment necessary (except for game, PS2/PS3, mat). today I moved up from Easy to Medium difficulty abdominal exercises. think I pulled a muscle in my butt. no idea how I managed that. well, been going strong for 3 weeks now. starting to see definition (if I suck in my stomach which I can''t hold very long)... but yay!

Hi ladies!

The weekend really got the better of me. I was okay in the food, just too much boozing and not enough gym-ming. FI went on a run and swim but I was hanging out with everyone. Bad me!

Hopefully I"ll get back on it this week. Starting today. I''m hoping to get a run in between the spotty weather we''ve been having so far.

FI & I finally got settled into my place. I have an office now and he can change in our bedroom :) So that was my big accomplishment this weekend

Sarah & Noel, hope you ladies get better soon. Being sick in the summer when you have loads to do is just *not* in the schedule. Someone needs to send out that memo.

I''m sorry if I hijacked the other thread! I was just typing as things were spilling out of my brain. I do have an apt this week with my doctor so hopefully we can get things straightened out.

I think I''m back on the wagon when it comes to food. Today I had some cottage cheese for breakfast (with fresh pineapple! YUM!), cherries for a snack, lunch was a three bean salad with some raw carrots and sugar snap peas on the side. I think I''m going to do a stir-fry for dinner - lots and lots of veggies.

Sarah, yes I'm Japanese, but with lots of different background mixed up (both by blood and by upbringing), so I'm more of a mutt really
3.gif
Have you ever been to Japan or watch TV shows? If you get a chance, try watching some of the variety cooking shows. They are great fun!

noelwr, I do calorie counting all the time. But that's only because I eat the same thing everyday. I eat one piece of chicken every lunch and dinner, I cook three cups of brown rice every week, and I go through roughly 4 lbs of frozen veggies in about a week. So I put all this together, divide by how long it takes me to finish them, and I get the calories that I consume each meal. For breakfast I eat oatmeal so that's also easy to count.
It will get complicated if you do any REAL cooking though.

EricaR, I'm glad you're feeling better

Mmm, I'm hungry for cherry now.

Last week after swimming I had a spectacular and embarrassing fall. My knee and hand are disgusting right now, and I have one of those "fake skin" band aid on. Does anyone know if it's alright to swim with those stuff? Or should I wait until my skin regrow? It's really too hot to run...
I did alright for food choice over the weekend, but I ate huge portions of everything. Eek.

Choro, I totally agree with you about it being too hot to run. I went on a run today and was thoroughly disgusted. I don''t think I can run outside if it''s more than 85F out. Or 29.5C. Plus it was humid. I was totally NOT feeling like running. The only reason why I kept going was because I was playing some good tunes on my iPod. But yeah I only did like 2.25 miles and turned around and went home. Blech....... my legs feel like they''re dead. I''m pretty sure I''m going to be so un-motivated to go to the gym tomorrow...

Dinner tonight had a fairly large cut of steak with FI. I was pretty good with lunch and plan on doing salad for lunch tomorrow.

Erica, I agree with Choro. We''re all here for support and even if it''s just us saying, you can do it, hopefully it helps. And everyone goes through rough patches. Some people just react to them differently. E.g. I went through a few months/a year of bad and/or inappropriate relationships. Even today, I think about them and am pretty ashamed. I just hope karma doesn''t bite me in the a$$ with my wonderful FI. I haven''t even told my sister about them. Hoping no one will find out.

choro: unfortunately I do "real" cooking. can''t expect FI to eat the same crap as me and I''m not cooking separate meals. he''s actually one of those few people in the world who is 35 and still hoping to GAIN weight. so for now I''ll just compare the calories on the back of every box just for the things I eat.

still home sick today but should be going back to work tomorrow. bleh.

Hi, ladies!! Sorry I''ve been missing for a while--things have been a bit crazy recently with my degree (almost but not quite) wrapping up and me packing to move and stuff.

I was wondering, though--does anyone have any suggestions for exercises that are good for people with bad knees? I usually do swimming (back when I had a gym membership) and walking, but want more of a variety. I would love to start yoga but am afraid it will be too painful, since after less than 5 minutes sitting with my legs crossed makes my right knee throb and ache. (A few years ago, I sprained my right knee, my right ankle, and dislocated my right knee cap, and over the course of healing, since I leaned so much on my left knee, it''s gotten kind of bad too.)

I can''t imagine running outside in Houston and I think the people who do are nuts! But more power to ''em, I guess.

I''m loving my 30 Day Shred dvd...thank akmiss! The only thing is, I wish I was doing it everyday. I''m only doing it every other day and I know I''m seeing results as quickly because of that. The only the 20 minute workout will show quick results is if it''s done everyday. When I''m sore, it''s really hard to get out of bed at 5:15am and do it all over again.

I need to go swim laps on the days that I don''t get out of bed to do the dvd. That''s my plan for the next 2 and a half weeks.

gwendolyn: have you tried Bikram yoga? I used to do it but having to get up extra early to do it before work was bad. after work was worse as that''s when everyone goes and the room felt even hotter. I''m a wuss.
anyway, for Bikram yoga you have to tell the teacher if you have problems with your back or knees and they will let you know if there are certain postures that you might be able to differently. and they never push you. only you can push yourself. it''s a good 90 minutes of exercise and you are guaranteed to sweat (as the room is heated). the heat helps your muscles and skin. however, if you want to see results you have to do at least 3 classes per week. or less if combined with other exercise.
by the way, in Bikram yoga you never sit cross-legged.

noelwr Funny I was just going to suggest bikram. Or any yoga that''s fluid and constantly moving. I know Vinyasa you''re always moving so you''re not really staying in one position for a very long time. And any class you take, you should talk to the instructor if you have problems with anything like knees or back etc.

gwendolyn what about cylcing? You can get a nice 45 min ride. As long as you''re kinda pushing yourself, say going at 75%, you should be able get a decent workout. And low stress on the knees.

Hi all I am so behind!
14.gif
I will be back tomorrow to try to catch up. I have class tomorrow (I thought it was today, but it''s tomorrow) so it will be after then!

Sorry I am so MIA.

Hello all and welcome to Friday! I am still feeling kind of blegh because I''ve been losing a TON of sleep. FI''s snore has kicked into high gear it''s so confusing to love someone and be so frustrated with them!! He''s trying to do something about it, but honestly I really think a huge part of it is needing to lose weight.

Anyway. I did go for a swim this week! I also tried to make smarter choices (e.g. I went to McD when I was short on time and got a 4 piece nugget, diet coke, and apple instead of fries - not great, but better) and drink more water. I''ve been doing about 5 glasses a day which is still not enough, but it''s decent. I am going to try to up it this weekend.

noelwr: That is so true about burning calories! I am not counting them, but cleaning does burn a bunch. Once I drag the huge vacuum around for a while and scrub the floor I know I can work up a sweat. That is awesome that you''re seeing definition!!

Krissie: Thank you! :) Looks like you got a lot of wedding planning done recently, I think I saw that thread! How is the work out going now at the end of the week, still going strong?

Musey: Thank you for the plug!! :)

lliang_chi: Thank you! :) How''s the weather doing now, have you been able to get your run in? That is so awesome about settling in! :)

EricaR: You totally didn''t hijack! That is what we''re here for. Have you been to the doctor yet, how did it go? Is food still going well? Sounds like you were doing great at the beginning of the week! :)

Choro: Helloo! Ahh I understand, haha. I''ve been to Japan twice actually, I
30.gif

it! I am not sure I''d live there, but I do love to visit. I am craving a Japan visit. That happens every few years now, but I don''t have any money to go due to the wedding!
5.gif
Maybe one day. My Japanese language skills are fading haha. I am sorry you had a fall!!
7.gif
I hope you''re feeling better and healing up!

Gwennie: You''re done with the dissertation now take a break, rest, and come back!! We miss you!

Courtney: That is awesome that your dvd is working out for you!! I understand what you''re saying about being sore, it''s so hard to keep going.

The weather in Chicago has be FRUSTRATING! Raining one day, not the other and then back again! Monday I did go for a run, only 4.5 miles.

On Weds I was supposed to hang out with my sister but she had to work late (like all the way through the next day). FI went to a Cubs game, so I took the chance to go to a yoga class. It was fun. :)

Yesterday Leena did come home after work, came to my place to play with our dog. We made dinner and her SO came over, so it was a "double date." Too bad it was raining all evening. Boooo.

Today a good friend is coming in from London en route to Micronesia. She''s not staying with me, but her friend who she is crashing with is at work when she comes in. She was going to hang out @ Starbucks
23.gif
so I gave her the alternative of coming to my place since I work from home. Leena (sister) might will be able to hang out tonight before she goes on her 2M field travel, so I''m hoping friend will be up for dinner with Leena, me and her friend tonight. No gym tonight
7.gif

Tomorrow it''s supposed to rain (booo), I''m taking said friend around Chicago for the afternoon. Any ideas ladies?? I was thinking of staring with brunch @ Feast and then depending on the weather, either the Lincoln Park Zoo or if it''s raining a museum or a make your own jewelry place in Bucktown. We''re dorky like that. *possibly a work out, but we''ll have to see.*

I dunno why I just gave you guys the whole recap of my week. Sorry about that...

That stinks about all the rain. It rains here in Houston a lot, but it hasn''t been too bad this summer. YET. Knock on wood as my outdoor ceremony is in exactly 2 weeks. The brunch sounds really fun and the jewelry place too. I''ve never heard of a place like that.

I tried to do my dvd again a couple of days ago and my knees started bothering me again. Back to swimming I suppose. I need to take the joint vitatmins also. Is there any cardio I can do that won''t hurt my knees? The swimming is nice, but I don''t think it''s burning anything off..just toning.

Cortney two weeks!!! EXCITING!!! I''m hoping for nice weather for you!!! Jealous that swimming is having such good results for you (toning). It doesn''t do much for me, so I''m jealous. Re: cardio that''s easy on your knees, what about biking/spinning? I don''t know how bad your knees are but at least it''s not high impact (running). Re getting your heart rate up for swimming, try doing some timed sets. E.g. do 50yds (there-and-back) in 1 min. Rest for 5-10 secs then do it again. Repeat say 10 times. If 1 min is too easy/hard for you, decrease/increase the time. E.g. too easy, do it in 50 secs, too hard to it in 1m:10s.

It might be all my head, but I felt like my legs looked tighter after swimming for a few weeks. I will try the timed sets...thanks for the idea! I will alternate that and the bike and see how that does for me. Not like anything will help in 2 weeks, but least I''m doing something. Spinning always seemed to make me sore in all the wrong places. I need to do cardio that targets my butt and upper thighs. The bicycle seat always seems to hurt me...in places where I don''t need toning!

I can''t wait to see your photos! Please have a happy, healthy, safe, and beautiful day!

lliang_chi: I am sorry the weather has not been so good!
7.gif
I love how you say only 4.5 miles, that seems like a lot to me!!
6.gif
But I guess it''s because I am out of shape and lazy. I''d love to be able to run. I can''t stop thinking about it lately. I''ve always hated it, but I just want to run so bad!! So is the best way to start to do the run then walk then run plan? Sorry you''re missing the gym, but at least you get to see people! That''s always fun! I think your ideas sound great. I''ve never been to Chicago so I can''t really help there other than that though!

It''s soooo hot here people. I am annoyed by this.
20.gif
So I am going to go be lazy and take a nap until FI gets home from work. I should be cleaning, but I will instead sleep.
5.gif

Sarah, Ugh, kudos for you for swimming in spite of lacking sleep! Have you thought of nose strips for the snore? Definitely not a trivial issue! Thanks for asking about my injury. More on that bellow.

Courtney Woo hoo, can we see the toned legs here?
31.gif

Since my hand and knee are bandaged up, I decided to run yesterday. My body tends to be NOT hungry when I exercise. Since these few days I''ve been starving, I realized that I''ve been slacking off on my workout. So even though I had a blazing headache going on, I started of running slowly. Funny thing, my headache went away after 5 minutes, and I had a great run for the rest of the time. And, my appetite is curbed again! Yay!

I''ve heard that many people get hungry after they exercise, but I''m the opposite. How about everyone else?

I have to agree with you Choro I don''t get hungry when I exercise, but maybe I haven''t exercised long enough to find out!
31.gif

No you may NOT see my thighs! lol They appear to be tighter after swimming, but I haven''t been swimming lately, so blah!

Yeah, iilang_chi don''t say "only" 4.5 miles!
9.gif
That''s crazy talk! I can''t imagine...honestly. I am just not a worker outer at all compared to you.

choro - I get VERY hungry after exercising. Not right after, but later in the day.

YOu ladies are all so nice. I''m not running the WHOLE 4.5 miles, probably close to 3.5-3.75. Believe I was NOT a runner before. I grew up in FL, and running in FL is TORTURE. So I never did it. I used to do swimming (that''s why I know a fair bit of swimming stuff). But in Chicago the weather''s way more pleasant, so I''m not so resistant to running. And I usually can''t start with baby steps. I have to just do a big step and build from there, so I started with 3 miles (that''s with running & walking).

And I''m with Cortney, I get HUNGRY when I excercise. Usually a few hours after and sometimes lasts through the next day!
