Yes, you are asking to MARRY her. The part where you're engaged (where she becomes your fiancee) is the time from the moment you ask her until you say I do. I hope you're focusing on marriage and not engagement. Getting engaged is not like asking someone to move in with you. Although that is a commitment, it is still a commitment of indefinite length. Although it is legally and financially easier to end a relationship during a period of engagement than after marriage (and painful as it may be one should never go through with a marriage if it's not right for you) engagement is intended to be the beginning of a permanent committment.
