Bedroom furniture. Our set is 25 years old. It totally bugs me, but I find I’d rather decorate rooms that other people see.

This resonates with me. I really admire people who make their bedrooms an oasis and decorate them first. I’m trying this year to make mine one without buying new furniture.

This is me, with a side of Missy’s husband’s practical answer. Because I’m frugal, I take a loooong time to pull the trigger on buying things so half the time I just never do. I like nice jewelry and handbags but I hit a saturation point. Now I’m trying to buy things that make life easier like a cordless vacuum. I’ve been talking about it for 5 months and it’s time ( though funnily enough, the Dyson I’m looking at has a trigger which some reviewers found annoying ).
Sleep is an issue for me as well. Ugh

I looove my Dyson! And yes the trigger thing is a bit annoying. I do wish they had some sort of lock to lock it in place if I will be vacuuming for a long period. I have the v15 detect and it has laser to detect every spec of dust and hair. I have a love hate relationship with it haha. It’s great at detecting all the microscopic dust and hair but man, I’m like ahhhhhh!!

Our furniture is close to 20 years! Went down to NC and purchased good solid quality furniture, paid way too much...all of that stays till we leave this house by choice or not-lol! But I am also very happy with it, a transitional style so I have been able to work around it to change with the times.
Paint the walls, switching out hardware, new lamps, throw pillows, curtains/blinds and artwork help change it up. Good luck!

Meanwhile back at the ranch (LOL) my "practical" DH decided we need a new stove/oven because ours might be on the way out...no way to know but it did act up a few months ago and we had the repairman here who said nothing to be done and no way to know if it will last or not.

It is working fine now but well my DH doesn't want to take the chance and wait for it to break down and then be without. SOoooo looks like we are getting a new range and we can only fit one specific one into the space so it's costing a pretty penny. So much for practicality. I mean we do have an outdoor grill which produces yummy meals so not sure why we need a new range;-)

But my DH is the chef and he does make delicious meals so I have to keep the chef happy because I like to eat :)

But cmon...this is as good as any range right?
Double range! Hahaha

Oh grats!! You’ll love it… and see alllll the microscopic dust and hair that you missed using your old vacuum. We have 2 cats and a toddler so theres a lot of fur and crumbs everywhere. I can see every spec with the dyson.

I forgot to mention that it is heavier than most of the cordless vacuums out there. Enjoy your new toy!

If it’s heavy, can I count it as a workout?
It’s going to the shore so there will be sand in addition to 2 dogs and grandchildren.

Actually, my friend is building in DE and there are still long wait times for appliances so it’s probably better not to wait until you really need it! Our son and his family moved in and my 9 year old washer and dryer are getting worn out! Repaired washer twice and dryer once because I don’t want to have to buy new ones to fit under my countertop.

This thread makes me sad. I'm thinking about all the things I don't like about myself and I'm getting weepy. :cry2:

Oh no! I think everyone has things they wish were different, some on the inside and some on the outside. I’m working on trying to treat myself they way I would treat my friends, with kindness and patience. And if I want to try and change things, slow and steady wins the race.

A competent reasonably priced jeweler and a veterinarian I have complete confidence in.

I’ve actually stopped buying any rings that would need to be resized because of my experiences with jewelers in my area. Admittedly, I’m a bit jealous when someone here has as an amazing jeweler who can set stones and perform various work over and over with perfect results.

Also veterinarians have been the same type of challenge and it seems this has only gotten worse since the pandemic. Also if you need a specialist, good luck because they are booked months in advance.

If you ever come down to NYC, I have someone for you. His prices are incredibly reasonable.

A rescue puppy!!! Or a rescue adult dog. I love dogs so much. But I also love our kitties and they wouldn’t do well with a dog. So for as long as our cats are here (and I hope they’re here for a looooong time) we’re not getting a dog. But one day yes. We will. And it will be a rescue. I love our rescue animals. ❤️

In the meantime I get my puppy love from our friends dogs.

Same! Go team rescue! Well, all of them are rescues with the exception of our Yorker. We got her from a breeder. But my rabbits, cats and other dogs were all rescues.

Aw thank you, I’ve only been to NYC by train because I would probably die of anxiety trying to drive. If I’m ever going to be in the area I will definitely let you know =)2

Confidence! Who knew knowing your self worth and being confident were two totally different beasts? This shy gal dreams of being more confident.

Funny thing about that. I was the same. Outwardly tried to be confident and outgoing in my youth. But inside was so insecure. But now that I'm north of 50-- well I just no longer give a rat's arse what others think. I do what I want. Wear what I want. Say what I want. It's so freeing. Wish I had realized at a younger age that others opinions shouldn't shape who you are.

A great jeweler for your purposes would be Derek Simpson on Chapel St. in New Haven. He is a goldsmith with many years of experience, and his jewelry is beautiful. I had him drill and set the pair of golden SS pearls I bought from Cees Van Oije.

Excellent, thank you so much @pearlsngems, I’ve had no luck in my area (Middlesex county) and New Haven isn’t that far from us.

Gosh, the things you wish you could go back and tell your 20 year old self.

Paddle boards/kayaks - both are completely within the realm of financial feasibility. We have plenty of storage space.

Landscaped back yard. 4th summer coming and I think we are the only people in the neighborhood who haven't done anything with our mud pit/weed patch of a back yard. Wanted to pay to have it done, but ultimately, I'm not comfortable spending that much cash on something I know I can do myself. The deck I'll have done professionally, but everything else is totally within my power to do. I just have yet to make it a priority.

I'm doing it! 17 years with worn, cheap finishes in that kitchen. 17 YEARS staring at it, and cleaning that grout in the dim...seething  Nobody else cares in the slightest in this house. DH is supportively ambivalent, the kids are almost grown...
Our family is very much a 'use it until it walks itself out into the woods'.
Well,(hitches britches and sniffs) I'm doing it.
