True and genuine beauty requires no embellishment, yearns no flattery, veils no defect, vanqishes all critics, and needs neither confirmation nor defense.

Perhaps you''d be better off going with uncut diamonds then!

Certain characteristics are GENERALLY considered components of beauty. These vary according to the item. In diamonds beauty is multi-faceted, no pun intended.

We have pleasing outline, and symmetry.
We have adamantine luster=high polish and surface reflectivity.
We have light return, sparkle, intensity and some dispersion.
There is body color and transparency.
There is purity=freedom from visible inclusions and blemsihes.
Also, there is visible size=carat weight

To differing extents every one of these components plays some role. Each individual balances the mix to please themselves and their budget.

To a person who values lack of color above all else, then "D" is "IT". To a person who values clarity above all else then "FLAWLESS" is it. To a person who wants maximum light performance above all else then the attributes of Light Behavior are "IT". Some people only want "BIG" and they buy some mighty ugly diamonds, but they have every right to their opinion. Some "BIG" buyers also want fine diamonds and if they have the bucks, no problem. We all are happy about those who don't need to make compromises. How much yellow is little enough or not enough is a judgment call for every consumer. Most people can't see the difference between H/I and D in mounted diamonds in general room lighting.

The arguments over which is most important are nonsense. It ought to be as plain as day that it is a balanced mix of several elements that make a diamond best in someone's sensibility. The way I see it, the cut of a diamond is the top priority, but others may feel differently. I prefer a diamond one way, but someone else may like it another. That's perfectly okay.
