I know a lot of you PSers are from the DC area so I was wondering if any could recomend any local jewlers or fairly priced B&M (maybe an oxymornon, I know) that I can go to.

I have been dealing with Whiteflash thus far and let me just go on the record as saying that they have all been great, but now that I am closer to the actual purchase I would feel better if I could do it in person. But I am not willing to pay the normally huge mark-up to do it.

I heard a radio ad for Mervis and their website looks nice (but no big surprise, they have no CUT info for their diamonds) - any experiences with them? Any others to check out or stay away from?

Thanks

Mike

Do you know where Hunt Valley is?? There is Smyth Jewelrs on York Rd in Hunt Valley and they were the BEST B&M I have been to in the area. They carry all the brand name settings and of course have non brand name ones as well if your budget is a little lower. I actually had a stone on layaway there and it was gorgeous but my hubby and I decided to buy online and get the slightly bigger one :) Don''t get me wrong there IS going to be a mark up but it''s not all that bad. My hubby and I ended up going with James Allen. www.jamesallen.com because he''s located in Frederick, MD.

Quest Jewelers is highly recommend by many of us from the area. They reset my original engagement ring, they will be making my matching wedding band, and doing other future projects. I must say that I am partial to them but what can I say after my ring was complete. Other than tha, I love having a local jeweler that I can trust implicitly.

There''s references to 106 posts here, if you do a search on "Washington DC," and constrain to Rocky Talky, including this one.

Don''t wait for someone to stroll by.

Both of my sisters got their e-rings from bonded diamonds in Reisterstown, MD, and loved the stones and service. They are about an hour from downtown DC, on the west side of Baltimore. unfortunately, depending on what you are looking for, of course, they typically only carry d through f color, and better than vs2, so the stones are high quality and thus more expensive. I am partial to the h through j since I have been looking, it seems like you get much more for your $$, and can't typically tell with the "naked eye".
If you are interested, they are at www.bondeddiamonds.com
and you can do a search on their loose diamonds online.

We just went to Fink's in Roanoke and had a great experience with them. They really liked that we had done research and didn't try to push us to buy right then like most other B&Ms we have visited. The had a great selection and they have another large store in Dulles Town Center in Northern Virginia, very close to DC. We had a great experience and I would recomend them, even though we are most likely going to buy online. Good luck!
