Sweet jesus-this thread is a laugh riot! Below, the condensed version:

Republicans: IT''S ALL OBAMA''S FAULT! HE''S THE WORST IN THE WORLD AND HE''S RUINING MY LIFE EVEN THOUGH HE''S NOT THE PRESIDENT YET!

Democrats: Let''s not get crazy-Obama''s not even the president yet-how can you blame the economy on him?

Republicans: OH OF COURSE YOU''LL DEFEND YOUR MESSIAH, YOU HUGO CHAVEZ LOVING COMMIES! YOU''RE ALL FANBOYS. STOP IT WITH YOUR PERSONAL ATTACKS AGAINST US FOR NOT LOVING OBAMA!

The End.

Z: one hallmark of the Obama supporters I have seen throughout the year was the quick personal attack on anyone who dared question his holiness.

You can say what you want but da fax is da fax. The market has crashed since he was elected. End of story.
Thank you. Obama is a guy who when campaigning was out every day blaming other people when things were going wrong. He may not technically be president yet, but what happens now IS on his watch. Where are his ideas? Where is the leadership?

To my original point - the markets dont like whats to come. We are pricing in some serious reductions in cash flows. Bush made them bad - but Obama''s policies are making them worse. And if he is going to modify some of them, he should be speaking to the people rather than let the market crash every day. I guess he''s too busy hiring Clinton retreads and being a typical politician.

But as you said, god forbid someone implies obama isnt perfect.
one thing we know for sure "all politicians lie" to get elected. now that Obama has been elected i don''t think he will raise taxes on business in the near future.

Coincidence? I think not.

Obama supporters willl say this is all Bush''s fault and I agree much of it is. But this has been the worst post-election market result in US history. We should have seen some bounce if the future - even if its a few years away - will be brighter under Obama.

I think Obama needs to speak to people about some of his anti-growth policies which are scaring investors to death. 1) His stance on unions needs a rapid change - it will crush corporate profits; 2) taxing the only people who have any money left is not a good idea right now. He can put that off until things stabilize. 3) His stance on free trade should be modified. We dont need protectionism right now.

I think if he said these things, and perhaps tossed americans a bone by lowering cap gains and encouraging investment, we might have a chance in our 401Ks and retirement accounts next year.

Hmmmm, let''s see.

Increasing capital gains? Check.
Nationalizing 401k''s? Check.
Healthcare for all? Check.
Expiration of Bush''s tax cuts in 2010? Check.

Yup, I''d say even if the new administration had nothing to do with the krapper we''re in now (but let''s not discuss Barney Franks and friends...) they''ve got some mighty interesting plans to finish us off once and for all!

Perfect!

That might be the single best example of "tolerance", "open mindedness" and "inclusionary" values I''ve yet to see here on PS.

There you have it folks...it doesn''t get better!

Thanks for that!

COME ON!!!! The current, sadly unique state of the economy transcends any single person, including Obama. Right now pumping hundreds of billions into the economy has not created a bounce, and you are arguing that the IDEA of future policies is having a real effect?? Give me a (partisan) break, please! Maybe one could argue that the election of Obama has PREVENTED the market from crashing completely? How about that? Look, we just don''t know. Let''s give the guy time to implement his policies and then you can shred him, OK? In the mean-time I am sure you will find many other things that you can criticize him for, or the people who voted for him. Sigh.
Rob, perhaps you''re a bit young to know this, but NEVER before has the stock market fallen to this level post-election. Never.

It IS because of the uncertain future under Obama. Of course there already were problems, but there should have been -- as there has been in the past -- a rebound (somewhat) of the market. Every economist I''ve heard, has said exactly that. And yes, I do see and hear news other than FOX.

I think this whole thing started with the housing mess. I remember in 2006, working at Countrywide Home Loans in Florida. I was doing data entry for the Subprime mortgage dept. I saw people with credit in the 500''s getting re-fi''s, or new loans. Also, with several BK''s. Re-fi''s to clean up credit card debt. People with no documentation, getting loans. etc, etc.....

On the Prime side, they were throwing money at people to buy houses. Basically, all you needed for a Prime loan was good credit. That is it.

So it is Tangelo''s fault! I am waiting for Countrywide to be the next Enron.

BTW: Tangelo is the nickname for Angelo Mozillo. He was the fearless, DEEPLY TANNED CEO, of CW. LOL

Holly - show me an example of a comparable state of the economy pre-election AND a post-election bounce to satisfy my curiosity and youthful inexperience - that would really strengthen your argument. I am always open to changing my mind given good evidence!

Nahhh. It''s not WAAAA WAAAAA.

It''s more like OHHH NOOOOOOO, here we go again.

We remember the last time this happened. Jimmy Carter was at the helm, the Dems were running the show and the "misery index" was born. No snarking changed that either. Ronald Reagan did.

History has a funny way of repeating itself and some of us are old enough to realize it may very well be comin'' around again.

Start here: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/economy-watch/2008/11/no_post-election_market_rally.html (hardly conservative in viewpoint)

Or CNBC (certainly not conservative): http://www.cnbc.com/id/27470047

Google it. Yahoo it. Call it "post election market rally". Narrow the search to history about market rallies, if you don''t believe the current experts/pundits/nay-sayers.
