When she's genuinely pleased, the Queen has the most delightful smile -- it's catching, makes you smile too.

It's wedding time! Now it was HSH Prinzessin Mathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg & Mr Alexander Johannsmann's turn. Their wedding was held in Bad Berleburg, Germany, today.
The bride looked lovely with her great-grandmother's Cartier tiara and lace veil, also worn by her cousins and Miss Mary Donaldson.

I rather like the way the tiara was placed on her head, but only wish the base wasn't so visible... Well, it's Queen Anne-Marie to blame

The biggest surprice to me was that, although this was a white tie wedding, only the bride wore a tiara. No lady wore orders or decorations.
The mother of the bride was the most stunning of the female gueasts, wearing the Berleburg fringe tiara as necklace (only secont time I've see it like this), Queen Ingrid's waterfall earrings and diamond bracelet:

http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0dzPdzMc8h2IY/x610.jpg

The Danish aunts aslo looked glamorous in their frocks & jewels - the sapphire necklace and earrings for Margrethe and Queen Alexandrine's diamond mecklace, Queen Ingrid's deamond earrings and the citrine brooch for Anne-Marie:
auntsx.jpg
http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0gvicUk5TG7HC/610x.jpg

The Crown Princess of Denmark looked very gook in that dress (also worn at the Prince Consort's 75th birthday) and wore the same jewels as at the dinner & concert given by the Swedish Government and Parliament exactly an year ago:

The Hereditary Prince's long term partner - Carina Axelson - looked every inch stunning. I think she's wearing a diamond brooch on her waist, in addition to her diamond earrings (worn before):

The Greek Crown Prince&Princess and Princess Alexia were also there - Marie-Chantal wore a pair of diamond clips (A-M's collection, prev. Fredi's) and pearl earrings; hard to tell what her sister-in-law's wearing:

Prince & Princess Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark looked lvery stylish, IMHO. HRH wore the long diamond earrings that she wore at the pre-wedding gala for William & Catherine in London:

I missed one of the prominent guests - one of Princess Benedikte (and Queens Anne-Maria and Margrethe)'s first cousins - Princess Christina, Mrs. Magnuson. The Princess wore a pearl choker (I believe she also wore two pearl rows to make it look more substantial) and earrings:

Bobby-

I am sure that you know it, but I didn't want anyone else to be confused by the first photo you posted from Princess Nathalie's wedding (also shown below). The label on it could have been ambiguous. The photo was, of course, from her wedding to Mr. Alexander Johannsmann, but he was not shown in that photo. The man pictured with Princess Nathalie was, of course, her father, Richard Prince zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg .

Princess Nathalie and her husband have an interesting story. They were married in a civil ceremony on May 27 of 2010 and the Princess gave birth to a baby boy, Konstantin, on July 24 of 2010. This wedding pictured in this thread is their church wedding. They hold Danish citizenship, but reside in Germany. Princess Nathalie is the niece of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and the first cousin of Crown Prince Frederick.

I liked this photo because it showed Princess Nathalie's lovely veil and bouquet, but I thought I had better get a picture of the bride and groom on their wedding day up! They really looked quite happy!

I am out of state visiting my parents, so I don't have access to my stash of pictures. I am really stunned with the Cartier tiara. It looks like it is mounted totally different than from when Princess Alexia wore it when she got married, or even Queen AnneMaria for that matter. It is far more upright. Does anyone (Bobby...Alexander???) have some pictures of past weddings where that Cartier tiara was worn for comparison?

Maria, I think it's 1.) the base makes it higher -- ick. 2) Her hair isn't poofy enough to hide it and make the tiara a bit more in proportion. Also, as Bobby mentioned, it seems to be tilted more upright. Maybe it's also more closed? Hard to tell. Here are photos:

Used up photo allowance. I love this one -- Princess Margarita wearing it as a sort of stomacher, or big brooch, take your pick.

Thank you Laurie, this was exactly what I was looking for. I think the tiara is more upright and more closed the way Nathalie is wearing it. It almost looks more like a crown to me as opposed to a tiara like what I see in the other pictures.

why is Ann Marie to blame? Benedikte is the bride's mother, and I think the bases are more seen recently, because of different hairstyles - and may that the hairdresser don't know his job well LOL.

it's this Jardinere Star Diamond Brooch -don't know history of this piece

The Queen inherited the brooch from a certain Lady Jardine, hence the name of the jewel. I've also read, though, that the brooch was a gift from Lady Jardine. Don't really know which is the right one. Both Princess Margaret and Princess Anne have/had
similar brooches.

When Queen Anne-Marie inherited the tiara in 2000, it didin't really have a base. Since HM wanted the tiara to sit higher on her head, she had one made by Danish jeweller Ole Lynggaard. That's how she wore it at the Norwegian and Danish royal weddings, as well as her eldest sister Margrethe's 70th birthday celebrations last year.
You're right that this was not the best job by the hair dresser and that he/she should have done something to hide the base. Had the tiara stayed in its previous stae - sans the high base - this wouldn't have happened. Princess Benedikte has no fault :)
BTW, I do wonder if the tiara still can worn as a dress ornament/stomacher.

Of course, Deb! The man on the photo is the proud father of the bride - HSH The 6th Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg.
BTW, from a close-up photo I noticed the buttons on The Prince's waistcoat and his cuff-links. To me they appear to have cabochon sapphires and samall diamonds. Would anyone agree on that?
He also wore them at the pre-wedding dinner and concert in Stokholm last year - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/07/Royal_Wedding_Stockholm_2010-Konserthuset-418.jpg

A nice photo of a little gaffe. The story goes that Princess Nathalie forgot her bouquet and remembered about it just at the door of the chapel/church. Somebody (apparently the woman in the pic) had to rush to the palace and deliver the flowers. Alexander and the guests had to wait a bit (7 minutes) as his Princess was staying on the doorstep, waiting for the bouquet.

The viel, by the way, is the same that Princesses Margaretha, Ingrid, Anne-Marie, Margrethe, Benedikte, Alexandra and Alexia wore at their weddings, now it's Theodora's turn. The veil is now in the collection of Queen Margrethe II and was also worn by Mary Donaldson at her marriage to Crown Prince Frederik in 2004.

Hey guys, do you remeber that bright sunny day last year when you were glued to the screen (some of you from the wee hours of the day!) to see a glamorous Princess marry her Prince? Well, believe it or not, it's been an year since then!

Today also marks the 35th year from the wedding of Victoria's parents - TM King Carl XVI Gustaf & Queen Silvia. Perhaps some still remeber how His Majesty payed a small tribute to Her Majesty during his speech at the wedding banquet.

A video of the speech is to be found here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUf9OL4OjZA

On May 31 Countess Hélène d'Udekem d'Acoz and Baron Nicolas Janssen were married in Bastogne. She is the younger sister of Princess Mathilde.

Simple & elegant, including jewelry, of which she didn't wear much. I am curious about the head ornament holding her veil. Couldn't find a closer picture from behind, but it looks like possibly a diamond tiara? diadem? headband? necklace?

Also, her veil is the MOST gorgeous lace -- of course, in Belgium! Must be a family heirloom.

Thank you for the photos, Laurie. She is a beautiful bride, as was her sister. I agree with you about the veil; I have never seen a prettier one! With her lovely face, the updo and placing the diadem (or whatever we shall call it) towards the back worked incredibly well! I would love to see more pictures!!! I have loved pictures of brides all my life. It comes from my mother having eloped with my father and my being robbed of the traditional bride's picture that was present in the home of every other girl with whom I grew up in the 1950's here in my little neighborhood!

Bride's sister Mathilde wore a different tiara at her own wedding. Don't think the veil is the same, either.

The tiara that Princess Mathilde wore at her wedding belongs to HM The Queen of the Belgians, her mother-in-law :)

This thread is better than any book on royal jewels, or online resource, and a huge thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread, especially you Bobby!! You are an invaluable resource on royal jewels! :appl:

Earl Spencer just got married, were there any royal jewels at that occasion?

The next wedding is Zara's, so I hope to see some goodies there as well.

Nope. Private wedding w/friends at Althorp. No jewels, just plenty of cleavage. Third time around, you get blase, eh?

P.S. Bobby is our very own royal gem.

I remember the first wife. She was pretty and seemed naive or something. Then he cheated on her, right? Was her name Vickie or Victoria? I missed out on the second one. The cleavage on the third looks unnatural to me. Who will be fourth? He looks quite old aleady, too. I remember him as just a kid!!! I remember feeling he was a hero when he spoke about his sister at her funeral, but he promptly fell off his pedestal and started to show that he was a cad as soon as she was buried. And his life of dissipation doesn't appear to agree with him!

Can you tell I don't feel a lot of fondness for him? Maybe because I feel he let us all down!
