I vote we find something through Heifer International that would go to Africa, since so many diamonds and gemstones come from there.

How about a pad for TravelingGal
Ack, no! I need to take better pics (meaning composed!) of that ring...it''s just on my mousepad and is a really lame pic!

Franky, is there going to be an issue with permissions? Should we not be posting rings of posters who are no longer active on PS? And welcome to PS, by the way!

Franky, I''m curious as to how you''ll select the charity/ies that receive the donations?

We are gonna take a vote and you guys will be making the decision

You can use the pics as long as we will be able to email them and get the image with a higher resolution from them.
thanx for the welcome!

Will there be a pure donation option for folks who don''t want to buy anything?

I''d be happy to donate, but I don''t want any of my donation eaten up in production costs or shipping.

, but I love Kenny''s photography - he''s truly amazing, and he took this pic while balancing his camera on a wine glass and the rings in a sugar holder on top of an iced tea glass.

What a great idea! I do love Gypsy's idea of a desk calendar, but a coffee table book could be really beautiful.

I don't have any really great shot of my only teeny, tiny diamonds, but I think coati's pictures of her JM on the Lego dudes is very PS. I've got a few pictures that I really like that I took at the Charlotte GTG, but I only have 1-1.5MG pictures.

Just a few notes...first to apologize that I don''t have any lovely diamond shots to share....though so many I do see here are really fab.

But, I have been inspired by this particular effort, and have tried (albeit only from my desk) to research this a bit.

I do note...despite the fact that the organizations mentioned after the very first post, where Andrey I thought clearly described the intent:

We are going to be running a project in which all of the profits will go towards a diamond non-profit organization of "your" choice....

that many fabulous organizations have been mentioned thereafter, and accepted with a favorable nod...but most all not exactly pointing to diamonds, per se.

So, although I''m motivated to at least mention two organizations for a start...neither of which I''m recommending yet, since they''re really not in the charitable category...

The Diamond Development Initiative, and also
The Community and Small Scale Mining Initiative...

...both of which are mentioned in this nicely documented report, do seem to point to the kinds of efforts it seems to me we might be especially interested in.

Nevertheless, for now, based on what has already come forward, understanding we may not actually be able to constrain donations to Africa...

I like this one, too, and could second it.

Meanwhile, many thanks to Andrey, Ali, and now Franky, for all of your efforts on this wonderful project.

I support Andrey's stated purpose and vrkitty and Ira's interpretations of it. Sadly, many of the diamonds and gems that we love are mined in miserable conditions (in spite of the Kimberly Process), and may even be tainted with blood. Let's give back to the communities concerned. It is a big undertaking, but, cliched as it is, every bit counts. This is not the perfect example as it involves Bangladesh (which is not, to my knowledge, a mining country). However, according to last weekend's Financial Times, it costs $240 a year to educate a child rescued from servitude. How humbling and sobering is that?!

OK, here are my contributions...I couldn''t leave that horrible shot on the mousepad (although that was sweet of you Gailey!)

Since it''s a ring in honor of my daughter Amelia, I figure this was fitting.

May I suggest looking at microfinance agencies? I''ve done some research in that area and have found the results impressive.

Note:
The IRS has regulations governing charitable donations to non-US entities.

Tgal, these are beautiful! Your ring is stunning and I love the pics on the money box. Lovely. I really like that the only colour in the pics is from the stone.
Here's my Amelia ring. I wish it was a better quality pic.
