DH and I are so upset. Today I was loading the dishwasher and I heard our Lhasa Apso, Mazie, woof at my daughter''s Lab. Then all hell broke loose. The lab attacked Mazie. Next thing I know I turned around and there was my Mazie covered in blood, blood all over the floor in a matter of seconds. Her eye was hanging out of the socket. I yelled, picked her up and called our vet.

I rushed her there and he and his staff were waiting for me. He came out in a little bit and told me her eye could not be saved and Rick and I would have to take her to UC Davis to the specialist there. I could not stop crying. My poor little Mazie.

He wrapped her up and put a cone around her neck. He gave her a few shots of antibiotics and a sedative shot. It started bleeding again and we rushed her up to UC Davis, where they will do surgery on her tomorrow morning at 8:00.am and will keep her until Saturday.

The doctor is so nice, but said she may be blind in her other eye too, due to the trauma. She isn''t sure though, but will wait and see.

My daughter is living with us now, with my two grandsons as she is going through a divorce, but my husband said, the two Lab''s have got to go. He doesn''t want to take another chance of either one of them hurting Mazie again. My daughter is upset that her dogs will have to leave, but there is no other choice.

I feel so bad for Mazie, with having one eye now. My heart is just breaking.

Thank you for reading my post.

Linda

Linda, my heart goes out to you and Mazie. Fortunately the damage was not greater, and I agree 1000% that the other dogs have got to leave your household. Biggest hugs outgoing to you and to Mazie from The Demon and his brother Oscar.

I'm so sorry to hear about your poor baby! What is it with dog attacks and losing eyes? A friend of mine has an older German Shephers [10 or 11 maybe?] and she got a GS puppy. A couple of months ago, the puppy was eating [from the wrong bowl maybe?] and the old dog attacked her. By the time my friend got to them the puppy's eye was hanging out of its socket. They tried to save the eye but after valiant efforts they wound up taking it out. That is the bad news. The good news is that the puppy is none the wiser. She is doing great with just one eye.

I hope your baby heals up and I hope the other eye is still good.

HUGS to all of you.

Oh my God, Linda, I am so sorry to hear about your dear Mazie. Is there anything I can do for you? Please let me know...we are so close, I could be there in no time.

I will pray that she comes out of this all right and she doesn''t lose sight in both of her precious eyes. Please hang in there and know we are all keeping our fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

Try to think good thoughts, and know we''re all here for you. Sending hugs your way, my friend.

Oh Linda.

Normally, I would want all the animals kept if at all possible. But I can see that it's just not going to work what with the one attacking the other like that.

Poor Mazie, my god how awful for you all. I can't imagine. I just can't. I hope for the best outcome for her eyes, for her swift recovery, and my prayers go out for you and your whole family.

Oh Linda I am so sorry to hear about your beloved dog Maisie.
We had two dogs (our boy got run over 2 years ago

) and one night our poodle attacked him viciously and apparently unprovoked. I was always worried her doing it again so I appreciate your concerns.
Sending hugs and love to Maisie (((((( hugs ))))))))

Oh this is bad news Linda. I am so sorry. Poor little dog, I hope she is not suffering too much. At least you have good vet resources around you and she will recover. Certainly those other dogs must go before there is more disaster.

We had a little Jack Russell that got in a fight and was blinded in one eye. It didn''t stop her or change her one bit, she carried on just fine. I hope for the very best for your Mazie. I am so sorry this happened.

Hugs to your baby doggie! That''s awful. You and Mazie must have gotten such a fright. Best wishes for her surgery today. I definitely agree that her dogs cannot stay with you if they attack unprovoked like that. It is unusual in a lab just to attack suddenly like that but you can''t take the risk in your house.

I''m so sorry for what happened, Linda. I hope that everything works out okay and that Mazie recovers quickly. Did the lab think he was defending himself against Mazie when she barked?

Oh my gosh Linda. My heart breaks for you and your family. Your poor pupster! Thank goodness gracious she is going to live. How horrible it must have been for you. I feel bad for your daughter having to part with her pupsters as well. But what has to be done, has to be done.

Oh Linda I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am about your poor baby dog. I hope that the surgery goes well today. What an upsetting situation for everyone concerned, but as others have stated the labs obviously cannot continue to stay with you. I am sending hugs and best wishes your way!

WOW...I am so sorry about your dog...thats so sad...labs are not normally agressive dogs at all unless they feel threatened, however I do agree that the dogs should go. They should not be in the house...

My heart and thoughts are with you and your dog today.

Linda, my heart breaks for all of you. Such a sad event.

I hope your dog recovers well and fast.

Perhaps you can find comfort in knowing that animals seem to adapt to such limitations much better than we humans do. To them, love/affection is the most important thing to have, and they learn to cope with other setbacks.

I'm so sorry to hear about your pup. That is so tough.

And you know, even worst case scenario, dogs are incredibly resilient - I'm sure your girl will totally be able to adapt and have a happy and fulfilled life, even if her vision is impaired.

My thoughts will be with you guys!

Linda, I am tearfully in pain for you. All the way to my marrow. Your story is so utterly unfathomable. Within the safety of your own home. I stand with you in aggreement that the remaining eye be strong and healthy and not affected. I pray for a positive encouraging report from the specialist.

I would also like to encourage you...as Aldjeway mentioned:

This is so true. You must hold fast to this. What has happened...is done...what you do now is take one step at a time...forward...and you and your loving family will now have another chapter in your relationship with this sweet little dog. She will find her way with your love and support, and together you will embark on a higher level of communication and need for one another.

Appearance may be different to you but that little fur ball won't be aware of the disability. As Aldjeway tells you...her adapting to the situation will be astounding. Her sense of smell...her memory...her whiskers...her senses are far more advanced than we can imagine. They will step in and take up the slack where the sense of sight once was. All of her equipment she has used on a daily basis...these other senses are strong, well exercised and won't fail her-nor you.

OK...be strong...this is a new chapter in your life...don't put the book down...simply turn the page.

Absolutely they do adapt. I have seen this with some of the dogs and cats I have loved in the past. One of my dogs became profoundly deaf and he learned our own sign language, I have had cats who have lost limbs also, and it is amazing how well they manage.

I am keeping you and Maisie in my thoughts and prayers.
