Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

Okay so.

Ask Jon for pictures of the different prongs from the bench he would use. And then go with the ones that look the best from that bench. I can tell you what I would want IN ABSTRACT, but if the bench cannot execute them well, then it's irrelevant. I can tell you with wide corners like yours Tabs would be my last choice.

My claws from Steven catch on nothing. But that's Steven's bread and butter.

I would revise your request to Jon as follows:

"low basket that allows a flush fit band, or a band with a very small gap."

I'm not sure if it's a bench that he uses, other than setting and refining these CAD casts.... it was like a plug and play program where he could add any type of basket, prongs etc that he wanted and then they cast it like that. But maybe this is his cost effective solution for me and he also does custom hand forged stuff?

He has this estate setting in his shop which would fit it.... It seems like it sits kind of high though and I think I prefer a rounded band

Yeah, I like a comfort fit band too. I like that one a lot too. But that one since it's so square, to me cries out for engraving. Don't know why. Just what my eye sees.

Here, look through this: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/post-your-favorite-plain-solitaire-setting.164906/

Which one, the one that GOG has? Or the SK one? I posted the wrong link, I corrected it for the longer diamond shapes.

I like this too. Dang I have expensive taste!
https://leonmege.com/portfolio/custom-work/solitaires/solitaire-radiant-cut-diamond-detail

and I looked through the solitaire thread - I only liked the one Dancing Fire posted but there was no link. Maybe not quite as thick a band but otherwise I like the basket and the cathedral on that one.

Well, I can see why you are so excited that K asscher is kicking my butt with that small table and high crown. Love that stone.

Not an expert on settings but maybe a bezel with miligrain would be nice and antique looking until you can find your dream setting. Would Love to see the K color in the rose gold too.

Did I say I LOVE your stone? Great video!

$1400 rose gold:

This one is very antique looking and great price especially for all the detail...and love the
knife edge engraved shank $1200:

This one I have always loved and for platinum a great price ($1200)...I love a knife edge shank...but this is for a round stone:

Thanks Ariel! I am so excited! Now to figure out the right setting. Turns out that I like non fussy liquid metal with with no sharp angles lol. I like the basket on the Steven Kirsch solitaire I posted, the shank on the Vatche x prong, and am undecided on a cathedral or not. But I used up my budget in the stone so I am searching for something reasonably priced. Oy!

Wink has made a lot of solitaires using Roseco cathedral shank and various heads or baskets. It you just Google Roseco cathedral and look at images, a lot of them show up. I think this head with double prongs might be a Stuller. (But as you know, the larger and deeper the stone, the taller these heads have to be.)

You might find something on GabrielNY in a solitaire...they are very reasonably priced and they make a quality product.
I know GOG handles that line.

good luck with your search ...can't wait to see that gorgeous stone set.

This one with double prongs is nice...they custom make for your stone so I'm sure they could make the shank knife edge with this basket.

Thanks so much! I can't do knife edge - they are so uncomfortable on me. I have Jon working on a custom CAD and it is looking fantastic - we're close!

And I just have to say, Jon is AMAZING to work with. Wow, just so patient and kind. GOG has earned my business for the long haul!

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

Thanks! I am so excited, too!

Here are updated setting CADs. I am undecided on whether I want to go wider on the shank (2.8mm shown here to a 2mm taper), whether I want to eliminate the taper (he is increasing it from 2mm which is shown in these pics to 2.4mm to see how that looks) or whether I want to eliminate the cathedral all together. I really love luckyhonu's setting how the thick rounded 3mm shank attaches to the bottom of the basket. Ah! These are the final touches and I want to get it right. He is going to bring the cathedral down so it isn't sticking out of the top rail, and he is going to smoosh the top rail a little, like the rail on the Steven Kirsch solitaire that I like. I really want this to have a liquid metal, rounded look. So help me figure out the width of the band and whether I should remove the cathedral or not. Rhino, if you're reading this, don't worry, we are getting close to the final thing haha!

A few more just for fun

And here is luckyhonu's shank which I LOVE. Should I make mine 3mm? My finger size is 5.25.

OR maybe I scrap the thick shank/cathedral and just do a 2mm rounded wire shank to make the stone POP.I also really like this one still https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-journey-to-a-symmetrical-asscher.188468/

Gypsy do you have a link to this one? I'd like to see the basket

Oy! Why is this so hard! I love that Jon is so willing to tweak whatever I want - he really is a SUPERSTAR

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

Thanks. Both of those are so gorgeous. The rose gold doesn't look like it has a donut - does it?

My husband thinks the thicker shanks look dated lol and he thinks something delicate would make the diamond look larger. He's right about that part! My wedding band is right under 2mm wide and I don't actually love a flush fit - close is fine but I like a little gap. I went and tried on some cathedrals today and ya know what? I don't care for them. That solves that dilemma.

My husband and I both LOVE the Leon ring you linked with the asscher which is pretty similar to the basket I had Jon create so maybe I'll have him refine that basket with tighter prongs and add a 2mm rounded wire shank. (Rhino are you rolling your eyes? LOL!!)

You are such a gem for thinking of me! I do love that setting! Maybe the super champhored corners of my stone would fit it? How can I know for sure? I told her to message me via LT. If it doesn't work then I'm going to have a Jon make me a Leon inspired solitaire.

I would ask Mark if that setting can have the head modified to fit your stone and what it would cost.

I wonder if the prongs would hit the corners perfectly as is? I hesitate to call Mark until I know whether she is selling it. Also I want to make a setting decision this week. My diamond just sitting at GOG is torturing me!

Re: My new antique elongated Asscher cut! Setting suggestion

Alas, Chris said the ring would not work with my diamond but it doesn't matter because Jon designed the perfect ring based on those inspiration photos you sent me. The poor guy has been SUCH a champ dealing with my wishy washy design requests. THANKS RHINO!

Can't wait to post photos and hand shots once it is finished. 8-)
