My car new in 2002, no... my car now, yes. However, my car was a graduation present and FI''s truck is paid for by the company, so technically the fact that we spent even $1 on the ring makes it more expensive.

In 2002 when i bought my car, it would have been more... Now, my car is worth abnout 10k and has 150k miles on it... But it still runs smooth, and doesn''t cost me anything per month other than the maintanence, so i''m driving it into the ground...

Yes, the e-ring is worth more. Which is sad as the e-ring was only 3k.

But hey, it''s just a car. It''s old and it runs, and we won''t get a new(er) vehicle until absolutely necessary. No sense in paying more for insurance and gas and car payments if we don''t need to!

My ring sadly cost more than my car. To me my car is something to drive me from point A to point B.

Hmmm, probably more than my fiance''s car and I don''t have a car. We live in the city, so we use the car maybe 1x every two weeks, which keeps us from wanting to get a new one for a loooong time. New diamonds, yes please!

Nope. According to kelly blue book, my car is only worth $1000 less than what we paid when we bought it 4 years ago. My e-ring also wasn''t very expensive (in comparison to others on here at least).

yep it will be worth more than my vehicle. but I have an old truck. however even when it was new this ring would still have been more.

Now, if I get the car I want (a Prius) the ring won''t top that.

About equal to the car I had when we were engaged, much less than the car we drive now.

No.

Unless you count the $1k AE86 beater my husband was driving when he actually proposed. It was just his in-between car from the GTI while waiting for the STI to arrive stateside.

A few months ago, yes, but that was because we were JUST about to trade in my 10 year old car. Now no.
Ditto.

Yes. The new cost of the ring was ~2x the new cost of my car...4 years ago! I''m sure it is closer to 3-4x now...

I drive a toyota, which last forever!

My car just turned 20, so it''s a good bet it''s worth a LOT less than my ring. But if I hang onto it for a few more years and keep it in good shape, I may be able to sell it to an antique car collector, in which case it would be worth a lot more than my ring.

i''m not into new cars and drive a 1996 Honda Accord EX, so, yes, very very definitely my e-ring cost a LOT more than the $4k i used to buy that particular car in february 2007. so much for color stones being less expensive than diamonds........

I had a Ford Escort ZX2 that I just sold and it was only worth about 1k on Blue Book. My ring is 3k. So yeah. It was a 99 with a bad resale value though, so I think that number is skewed.

My car is worth more and it''ll always be that way. I wouldn''t want to be broken down on the side of the road in a junker car while wearing a $20K ring that''s incapable of changing a tire. Even if the diamond could change a tire or I could, for that matter, I''d still rather have a reliable car since I have two kids to worry about getting home safely.

When I jokingly tried, he asked if the ring could get me from point A to point B. LOL! But, that''s okay, I can''t imagine dropping that kind of coin on a ring anyways.

Gecko, I guarantee your ring is worth more than my car

I bet it more often depends what type of car one drives than what type of ring they choose...

I'm sure my next car will cost the same or more than the worth of my ring, and at least a couple times what we actually paid for it.

When new the car was worth more than the upgraded e-ring. Now that they are 10 and 8 years old respectively, the e-ring is worth several times more than the car (appraised value).

Yes, definitely worth more than the ''95 Cirrus I drive everyday. (I think I''d have to pay someone to take that thing away lol) However, it''s not worth more than the WRX or the 911.

I love how this question illustrates how different our views are on justifiable costs and what is more valuable, cars or jewelry. AND, how relative a term like "expensive" really is. Or "affordable" for that matter.

I''d have no problem wearing a ring that costs more than my car. As long as the car is reliable and safe, I''m happy to drive it, it certainly doesn''t have to be beautiful or luxurious. However, I''m not going to put just any round piece of metal on my finger because it functions as well as any other ting! I like my jewelry beautiful and my cars reliable.

My used car (Ford Focus 2001) is worth $6,000 and DH bought e-ring for me in 1982 for $600, so the car is worth about 6x as much. LOL

My e-ring was bought in a ''maul'' store and comparable ones still cost about $600 (although $600 was a lot more money then than now!) However, I will have the e-ring long after the car is gone. And its worth infinitely more to me (every time I look at it, I remember being young and in love and naive together, just starting out.)

The car has been completely paid for for some years now, and the e-ring was completely paid for immediately.

I got a lovely 25th anniversary ring a couple of months ago (using info I got lurking on PS) and it STILL cost less than my car . And was also paid for immediately. I''m sure there are many on PS that can shell out $6,000 or even more for a ring and not go into debt (I sure do love looking at many of the beautiful rings here that must cost a lot) but we aren''t in that category and won''t be any time soon, with kids still to get through college and retirement (hopefully) coming up. And I live in an area where you have to drive to get everywhere, even the closest grocery store. I love my rings more than my car, but they don''t take me anywhere--I guess my car is always going to cost more!
