When I was young people were expected to help the needy. They expected to be judged by their actions. They expected to live as free Americans and they were expected to love their country. Obviously I am not young any longer.

My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.
John F. Kennedy

I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

If you feel that your country has let you down then just maybe you have let your country down.

I slipped rushing down the handful of steps to the den and landed with my tush 3 steps down my lower back hitting a step as well and my wrist taking a bit of a bang. Why was I rushing downstairs? I realized I was a few hours late with my one of two daily vacuuming around and scooping of the litter box. I guess when you're trying to deal with sh!t, sh!t happens! ;( :nono: :errrr: Between this little bang up and my head cold i feel so out of sorts. 3 more hours to go before I can log off my work computer and call it a day. sigh...

Just had an appointment with a specialist at the hospital to check out a leg lump that has been hugely bothering me for months. It's just a lipoma, thankfully.

I'm so frustrated. I had an issue yesterday and you'd think by talking about it, you'd have the ability to resolve it. No such luck. I guess some things never change. Feeling rather overwhelmed tonight, so forgive me if I'm not being clear enough, but I just had to vent.

Tonight DH is taking me out to dinner and asked me to dress formally. I decided to wear my diamond necklace and matching bracelet. I received them as a wedding gift from my parents in law and I have worn them only three times since my wedding (which was more than five years ago  ). They are always in the safety deposit box... what a waste...
At least I will enjoy them tonight...

Ugh a third of the company is out today due to severe diarrhea.

Bathrooms are frightening.

People keep on leaving for the day.

I need to bathe in disinfectant.

Brutal honesty

I never know when to give it.

An acquaintance posted about a new business she started. It's basically the same as an existing business, but with a twist that her business offers customisable options. She clearly didn't bother looking at her competitor's website because there is an easy to use form for customizations. It also has a nice booking interface and layout. They have a strong social media presence and branches in multiple countries.

They are also cheaper than my acquaintance's business. Her business name is six words long so easy to forget. She doesn't have a website and posts adds on Craigslist and Facebook. She only has 130 friends on Facebook and her business has less.

She really seems to think she's on to something huge.

I want to tell her not to put too much money into this. That it isn't going to take off.

Ugh

She's an acquaintance, so leave her be lolol. Hey, you never know, something bizarre might happen to her that garners her lots of free press and then her business takes off! Weirder things have happened lol.

So true!

Clearly I've been watching too much Dragons Den (like Shark Tank).

Spending a few nights in a B-rate hotel that offers free breakfast. Yesterday breakfast included yogurt cups, not today, so I checked at the desk to see if I could get some yogurt. They said "we switch out - yogurt one day, muffins the next." Yogurt and muffins - yeah, totally interchangeable. But they did get me some. :))

Then off to the hospital to be with my father before he heads in to surgery. He's on the tenth floor. The fire alarm strobes start going off... everyone continues doing what they were doing. Ten minutes or so later the strobes quit flashing. I guess they knew what they were doing.

So now my father is in surgery... they'll be removing a piece of his skull to drain a subdural hematoma (blood that's pooled between his brain and his skull). Hoping it all goes well.

ETA my father made it through his surgery just fine. And about three hours after that initial fire alarm, I heard an announcement to ignore any fire alarms that might go off on the tenth floor...

Thanks for the good wishes everyone! After waiting all afternoon for my father to be moved to ICU, I was told that there are no beds available in ICU so he's spending the night in post-op - which is a restricted, no visitors allowed area - which means I'm off for the night, without guilt! :appl: Now off to try to find a good meal in a town I haven't visited in oh, 15 years or so! (The community hospital in the little town my father lives in isn't equipped for neurosurgery, so they trucked him off to a nearby "big city" for surgery. Unfortunately it's not the nearby big city I happen to live in.)

VRBeauty,

I'm glad your Dad's surgery went well and hope he has a speedy recovery.

Hopefully, you can get some rest. Its emotionally draining when a loved one isn't well.

Hugs

Re: I just wanna say -- the random comments threade

Thank you December-fire. "Draining" captures it perfectly.

I'm eating an American style dinner at a Basque hotel near where I'm staying. Basque hotels - and the adjoining family-style restaurants - were once pretty common in California's Central Valley but are now a dying institution. It's a would-you-like-some-lettuce-with-that-blue-cheese-dressing sort of place. But it's also the sort of place where someone would probably come give me a hug if I were to start crying. Just the kind of place I need tonight.

Your lettuce comment made me laugh! Glad you've still got your sense of humour.

Hang in there. Order a sundae. Or a piece of chocolate cake. Or both. Then go have a hot shower and crawl into bed.

No, I'm not a doctor. But I think I can write pretty good prescriptions. :D

That was indeed a pretty good prescription! It worked despite the wimpy output from the water-conserving shower!

I'm happy to report that the surgery seems to be doing what it was supposed to do. On Wednesday - the day before the surgery - my father was having trouble with motor skills, speech, and cognition - and it seemed to be getting worse very quickly. The surgery was performed on Thursday morning. Not surprisingly, he slept through much of that day and today. But this evening... this evening, my brother (who is taking the weekend hospital shift) reported that my father was able to feed himself and answer most questions put to him!

There might still have to be a stint in a skilled nursing facility or rehab, and we might even have to consider new living arrangements for my father (he's been living on his own since my mother died last year.) But for now, the news is all good.

Thanks again for your kind thoughts and concern!

I'm glad your father is improving VR! must be such a relief, sending healing dust that he'll continue getting even stronger - and sending lots of good thoughts to you too, take care of yourself - I've been in a similar situation and it can be draining and stressful sometimes.
