Oreo cookie lovers might like this. My kids ask for this over cake sometimes on their bdays.

Dirt Dessert

1/2 margerine or butter, softened
8 oz. cream cheese
1 c. powdered sugar

Mix together in large bowl.

In another bowl mix,

3 1/2 c. milk
2-4 oz. boxes instant vanilla pudding
12 oz. cool whip

Fold the two mixes together.

The recipe calls for 30 Oreo''s, but I find using more helps.

Crush cookies. I put them in a large zip lock bag and roll with the side of a coffee cup. Use a spatuala to scrape it off the sides, as it sticks.

In large serving dish (I use glass so you can see the layers) layer 1/3 of cookies (dirt), 1/3 cream mix, repeat twice more ending with dirt.

May decorate with gummy worms, etc. if you like. Can also line a clay flower pot and put in that.

Hubby loves these ribs. You can halve the recipes if you don't think you'll use it all up, but they do keep well in the fridge.

BBQ Ribs

BBQ sauce

64 oz. thick ketchup (don't go cheap here, which can be thinner, I use a good name brand)
10. oz steak sauce (I use A1)
8 oz. hot prepared mustard
1 c. lemon juice
1 c. brown sugar

Combine and simmer til warm.

Basting sauce

1 c. veg oil
2 c. white vinegar
1 c. soy sauce
1/2 c. lemon juice
dash of liquid smoke

Make sure you mix well, and keep mixing as you use, as it tends to want to seperate.

This calls for country ribs, the thick, meaty ones.

Brown ribs on grill (15-20 min), and then start basting with basting sauce. Do this until the ribs are basically done, turning several times.

Once they are done, turn off one side of grill, or push coals to one side. Pile ribs on no heat side and slather BBQ sauce on them a few times while turning.

We have left these on the grill anywhere from 1/2 an hour to 2, which gives you time to have some cocktails and visit with guests (ok, once it was 3 hours

), and they were still moist and tender.

Lorelei: ;I ;made Engllish roast potatoes posted here, they were great.I think if one can get Goose fat , or Duck fat that would be better than Crisco, but they were delicious with Crisco. Many thanks

Skippy: One of these days when I have some spare time I am going to try and make your Danish rolls. It sounds like lots of work, do you use your food processor for kneading also or do it by hand? I am not sure how much yeast to use ? 2 packs how big are the packs? I only use instant yeast for bread making so I m not familiar with other types of yeast..( did I really say I would make them??? ) Please let me know and I will try my best here. Can you freeze those? Thanks

Scarleta,
I use a tablespoon of yeast for a packet. Also, you can freeze them; my sister just made them and ate half of them.lol They make about 2 or 3 dozen large sized rolls. They freeze well; they are super yummy. They need to rise twice which takes a while. Best wishes and please tell me how you like them

Easy and Inexpensive Granola

5 cups oats

1 cup sunflower seeds

1/4 cup sesame seeds

1/4 cup pumpkin seeds (optional)

1/4 cup any available chopped nuts

2 tablespoon wheat germ (optional)

1/2 cup or more any dried fruit that you like, cut in small pieces

1/2 cup oil

1/2 cup sweetener (maple syrup, honey, vegan brown sugar, whatever)

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon salt

This recipe is infinitely variable according to whatever you have on hand. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. In large shallow baking pan, combine all of the grain and seed ingredients. Combine sweetener and oil in small pan; heat until it is smooth and hot. Pour over the seed mixture and stir. Add spices, put the whole thing in the oven, and bake for about 30 minutes. Stir after about 15 minutes. Let cool; add dried fruits. Mix will keep almost forever in air-tight container. Delicious as a cold cereal with soy milk, or add soy milk and fresh fruit and heat until slightly boiling (about a minute in microwave) for a quick and delicious hot cereal. Serves 8.

I use a Professional Kitchen Aide Mixer since it can do heavy duty jobs. I don't know if the food processor is big enough; give it a try if it doesn't get too full or cut it half and it should probably work but it is your call. I don't want your food processor to break if it is too full, k.

Scarleta, are you in Canada? I am curious where you can get Goose or Duck fat????

Carrot Cake
Ingredients

It makes 10 servings and 1 serving is 270 calories or 5 WW points

3/4 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup whole-grain wheat flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp table salt
1 large egg(s)
2 medium egg white(s)
3/4 cup honey
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
3 cup carrot(s), grated
3 oz light cream cheese, softened
3 Tbsp powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Heat oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Lightly coat the bottom of an 8-inch (20 cm) round cake pan with nonstick cooking spray. Line with wax paper and lightly coat paper with spray.

In a small bowl, combine flours, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. In a large bowl with an electric mixer, beat eggs, honey, oil and lemon juice until blended. Stir flour mixture and carrots into egg mixture just until well blended.

Spread batter into a prepared pan and bake until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 30 to 35 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Turn out of pan and cool completely.

Meanwhile, for frosting, beat together cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla in a small bowl. Spread a thin layer over cooled cake and serve.

Try a specialist gourmet supermarket or deli, they should carry it as well as El''s suggestion.

This recipe is soooo yummy. My hubby has been a precinct committeeman for many years, and every election, he''d take the poll judges breakfast, usually donuts or stolens from the bakery. Several years ago, I made this for them, and it has become such a favorite, I have to make it every time, by request.
11.gif
But it''s really easy.

Sour Cream Coffeecake

2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sour cream
2 c. flour
1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt

Topping

1/2 c. chopped pecans
6 tbsp. powdered sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, van., and sour cream, mix well. Add flour, baking powder and salt, mix well.

Pour into a greased 9x13, or 2 8in. pans. Mix topping ingred. well and sprinkle over the top.

Bake 35-40 min. at 325.

It''s even better on the second day.

Works best with a Kitchen Aide; otherwise it is truely a chore.

Danish Butter Rolls (time: 3 hrs)

Ok miss, I''ve bought all the stuff for these. Any last minute tips?? I''ve never made anything (sweet) so, time consuming....
9.gif

And I don''t have a Kitchen Aide.
39.gif
Will it be doable, will I botch it?? Should I just go buy some??

Not yet, and I can''t do them today either, too much going on. We''re thinking of tackling them tomorrow.

And it''s cooled off a bit with the cloudy weather. Only 93 today.
20.gif
But it''s going to be warmer the next few than expected. Oh well, it''s not like this weather is really a surprise around here this time of year...I just can''t wait to open my windows again.

My Favorite Banana Bread from Paula Deen (Lady and Sons)

No mixer needed here, just mix by hand

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, at room temp
1 c sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 ripe bananas, mashed

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan. In a mixing bowl, combine the butter and sugar; mix well. Add the salt, eggs, vanilla, flour, baking soda, baking powder, and bananas, and mix well. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 50 minutes.

Also, if you like chocolate get a 1/4 cup chocolate chips and microwave until smooth. Add about 1/2 cup mixed batter to the chocolate chip mixture and swirl in the batter and cook! YUMMY!
