Ruby and friends

So my ruby came in today from ACS stones. I am surprised it is more red than the picture showed. It is a bit on the dark side, but I think it will be OK with a very open setting. Of course, I could not just photograph one stone, so I will include my latest photo-shoot of a few of my other stones.

My camera at first was capturing more purple than red, but here is the first pic

This is showing that despite it''s dark color, it is cut well and has a decent amount of brilliance when exposed to lots of light

I changed my camera settings and got more of the red color I am seeing. I have included my blue sapphire and my spess.

I am thinking it is a bit small for a ring. It is too dark to bezel. I am thinking the best option might be a pronged halo pendant.

It will be a while before I sent it. I just sent 4 stones out to be sent, but I will be looking into the halo pendant idea soon.

Dear LtlFire,

You might want to still consider setting it in a ring. I have a red with slight orange undertone spinel that is only 1/3 carat. I someday plan to set in a Legacy style. T&Co. sells 1/3 carat Legacy rings. They are, frankly, not my favorite settings, but I think they would be really unique with a small, gorgeous red stone.

It is a pleasure to see more interest in rubies on this forum, especially in July.

I just remembered July is the month of the ruby. I was born in April, and I usually don''t buy "birthstone" jewelry since mine is diamond.

I have some time to think about how I want to set it, I am going to have to wait a bit.

HaHa...I think the spess setting will be the first thing that will reflect my "real job." But I have to pass my boards first, than I get a big raise
