Hey strmrdr! I hope you feel better soon, I had to have 3 root canals last Feb. and that was no fun. The insurance is funny, I would have had to bump it up to $667 or something! Hope you feel better soon!

No insurance, he just charged me the amount that he got from the insurance company on the last one he did instead of full price.
Dental work has shot up big time here in 2001 the last one was $350 and a cleaning was $60 now its $850 and $175 its insane.

Have to go back in a week to finish it up, another hour of digging.

its good you''re getting this taken care of: direct links of oral health to overall general health.

it is definitely less expensive where you are at......san francisco bay area prices, need i say more?!

nnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
storm can not live with out pepsi

wimper wimper wimper

He did say he cant figure out what happened to it.
Didnt look decayed and anything hitting it hard enough to do it would have damage a whole lot of other teeth and biting on something would have harmed the tooth above it.
is wierd.

why do you have to wait a week storm? to see if that is the problem?

i had my root done in one afternoon, and there was NO pain...in fact it was so much less painful than the stupid crown i had done a month earlier!! of course i had like 10 novcaine shots in my jaw first.

I feel your pain.

I have a dentist apt. set up for March 1st (I made it a week prior and it was the soonest I could get). I had been waking up with pain on one side of my jaw, not bad bad but long-lasting. One night I woke up after a nap just aching. Well, I have a tiny chip/piece of tooth missing apparently... thank God it doesn''t hurt most of the time, only when something cold gets in that area. The funny thing is I had recently discovered a gap between 2 of my left molars... that tooth being one of the 2 - the gap so large I could practically sliver my tongue through it. Well now I can slide it thru because it''s even bigger where the missing piece is. I have no idea how it happened besides the development that I am grinding my teeth while I sleep (FI discovered). Probably due to all my stress at work....

I guess I will have to get a cap as I doubt they would fit a false piece that small... but I may need a root canal too depending and that is really scaring me. You always hear the horror stories.

If there is a lot of swelling and gunk built up they open it and drain it then clean out the canals and fill it with anti-biotic stuff and cap it.
Then a week later open it and pack and fill the hole.
If they dont need to drain it or if they are doing a crown soon then they can do the second at the same time they do the crown.

Thats my understanding anyway.

around here you can get it done same day at dozens of places.
My dentist always keeps a 9:30 and a 1:30 apointment open that if your in pain you can get next day at the latest.

Oh, that''s ROTTEN!! Argh! I had my first root canal a few weeks ago and I had no idea what went into it. The first dentist couldn''t get one of those little wire/toothpick things past a curve in the root so he thought he''d have to send me to an endodontist. Then a more experienced dentist came in and finally got it. What the heck are they doing, poking with first one wire thing then another?? Good grief!! I hope this time everything gets all cleared up so you don''t have to go through this again!!

How can you get the root canal done in one day? Where do they get the crowns from?

I just went to the dentist yesterday because I am getting crowns for two of my molars. They are actually filled already, but my dentist said the crowns will make them stronger than the fillings. So they drilled out all the filling, made impressions of the two teeth to send it for the porcelain crowns, then made temporary crowns and put those on the teeths. He told me that the porcelain crowns will take about one and a half week to make because the technician they used is really good at porcelain but needs to be babysit. So for two weeks, I have those metal looking crowns in my mouth - look kind of like a grill hahaha.

strm I remembered this thread and was wondering how your tooth is now - all better? I can''t imagine going through all that, including 2 procedures cuz they missed a canal the first time, and then it getting infected....argh.

I ended up having to get a root canal yesterday and boy was I PISSED - I went in for a crown on the tooth last week and the temp crown was on. Over the course of the week it went from dull pain to unbearable, wake-me-up-from-sleep pain. The dentist told me that a rare 6% of people who get crowns end up having to get a root canal on the tooth (something about the procedure irritating and killing the nerve??). Anyway, it happened to me. I was so angry because the tooth felt fine, only went to the dentist for a checkup and was told the tooth was cracked, I need a crown, and then a freaking root canal? Grrrrrr.

Anyway I''m on motrin 800 mg right now but if I tongue the tooth I can still feel it''s sore. Anybody know how long I should keep up the drugs? Don''t want to find out the hard way I should''ve taken the next motrin dose.

On a happy note, at least 5 different nurses came in and wanted to admire my ering. Word spread around the office like wildfire and people were coming to see the ring while my freaking teeth were getting poked! One girl was like, "It''s so big, I didn''t think it could be real." It''s real honey, it''s freaking real.

FireGoddess,
youch!!

unfortunately its still bugging me pretty bad, i talked to one of our clients who specialises in root canals and he is going to take a look at it next week sometime.
Any kind of pressure on that side of my face gets very painful which wakes me up a lot because its the side I normally sleep on.
I'm praying yours goes much much better.

Thanks Strm. It''s freakin'' me out that yours is still causing you grief. They thought I had 3 nerves in there but turned out I had 4 (one split off from another) so thankfully they saw that. Still sore and hurts to put pressure on it, but hopefully that will go away.

I hope they get yours finally figured out soon!!!! I''m still taking lots of motrin.
