Recap Your Life in 2009

It was a fantastic year!

I watched my baby grow into a toddler
I got a place at the law school of my choice
I discovered that I LOVE law school and cannot wait to practice law
I realised that the man I married is more amazing that I''d first thought
I did not have to say goodbye to anyone I love
I received totally fabulous diamond hoops as a gift from a dear friend. Diamonds given as gifts seem to sparkle more brightly.
My attic was insulated. I now live in a warm house. That makes me very, very happy.

Finished school - great job!
Started business - very kewl
Celebrated ninth year with SO - cheers!
Bought new hybrid car - very green of you!
Reunited with long lost niece - congratulations on finding her!
Bought first the Octavia diamond moments after it got listed - darn you! Wish I had a bigger diamond budget![:tongue:]

This might be a good opportunity to basically recap stuff for those with bad memories. (Not me of course

)
It can also serve to introduce each of us to the newbies.

My New Years resolution is to take my kids on a cool trip this year!

mine:
Moved back into a home after living in a townhome for a year (yah!)
Dh bought a boat
Dh changed jobs
Decided to take a short break from best friend and ended up not calling her and it''s been 10 months now!
Grandpa died
SIL died
Aquired a few fish, and then a few more and now have an embarrassing number of them - plus, now my guppies are having babies. (so cute!)

Will have to add more later. . .my son just came in to tell me that they''re putting a movie in!

In 2009 I:

encountered a giant flood in my new house and had sewer in my basement
DH got laid off
spent the next 9 months budgeting on unemployment
learned to sew so I could make things for the new house
sent my baby off to preschool
taught my little boy how to hike and love it
received an amazing art deco 10 diamond ring for our 10th anniversary
remodeled some of the house
JT learned to tell jokes
decided to get in shape and lost 15 lbs and an inch over most of my body
DH finally got a job
I got pregnant
DH got a raise
2010 is looking good so far!

Successfully defended my senior honors thesis [!]
Graduated from college with a B.A.
Visited family in Portugal and went to Spain for the first time [sadly, without Wifey]
Moved from the East Coast to the West Coast so Wifey could start her PhD program
Got our first place all on our own, even if it is a tiny university-owned apartment
Bought our first furniture
Got my first "real" job!
Paid off all of our credit card debt
Celebrated our first wedding anniversary
Started saving $$$ for the future

Big year.

Was team leader for a race for the cure team
Walked in the race for the cure with my mother and mother in law
Survived DH working in Hong Kong for about a third of the year
Hosted a major star party in the mountains at 9100 feet - had over 200 people register and had incredible dark skies - a working and fun vacation
Bought new couch and love seat and was DELIGHTED to get rid of our uncomfortable sectional
Bought EC RHR, had heart diamond mounted in sapphire semi mount for RHR, bought WF PC studs
Spent a lovely weekend in the Rocky Mountains
Worked and taught classes at community college
Bought a 42" flat screen TV and realized how AWFUL our previous TV really was
Continued to work at being healthy
Lost DH''s grandma
Only got to go camping once since DH was traveling so much
Spent more time on PS, Facebook and Sparkpeople than I probably should

Celebrated 25th Wedding Anniversary
Received new wedding set for anniversary
added a sunroom to house
attended Bruce Springsteen concert
celebrated x-mas with sister from NC and her family

Yikes, so boring...but at least nothing awful happened

Joined PS and bought many shiny objects
Survived Part 1 of Medical School (which included dissecting eyeballs in french fry cups)
Planned a wedding and got Married.
Honeymooned in Iceland (where we saw a pair of blue whales and wild seals, very cool)
Got in shape, fell out of shape, got in shape, ...currently falling back out, haha
Got govt funding for summer research, which was accepted for publication
Forgot almost all my taekwondo forms (AHHH!!!)
Enjoyed many days of love, laughter, and cuddles with my SO

Interesting thread!

I am one of those people who never likes to "wish away" time. But this year, well....what a stinker. I try hard not to wallow and whine, but you asked for it Kenny!

January - had a brain surgery
February/March - stay home, recuperate
April/May/June - back to work part time, transitioning to full time
July - welcomed puppy Eliza to our home
August - housebreak the puppy
September - ditto august
October - symptoms return: I come to the realization that the surgery failed
November - confirmation of diagnosis from neurosurgeon
December - learn acceptance and patience.

So, I learned a LOT. Tomorrow is a new year, and I hope I have become more patient and accepting of my life and future prognosis. (*stamps foot and pouts*)

p.s. the puppy is wonderful though! And sweet DH, well, he's still sweet and dear.

So I'm gonna skip 2009 altogether. Going right from 2008 to 2010.

Sang in my first fully professional NYC-area opera
Bought a co-op in NYC
Broke up with boyfriend of 7 years
Got accepted to a top 10 MBA program
Didn''t get the fellowship I needed so decided to keep working and go part-time

Did my boss''s job for 7 months while he was on medical leave
Got back together with my boyfriend after he worked through a lot of stuff

Got engaged
Produced and sang in a fantastic opera in NYC
Planned the wedding of my dreams in 6 weeks!!!
Started the MBA program while working full-time
Got married

Finished my first semester of the MBA
Started TTC

Who knows what 2010 will bring

-Had to leave grad school unexpectedly : ( Will return fall 2010 hopefully!
-Searched & searched & searched & finally found a lousy job but a job nonetheless
-Actually enjoyed said lousy job, got promoted to another lousy job
-Really focused on working out & running
-Can now bench press 105 lbs & squat 135 : )
-Vacation in Cancun - first time on a real beach!
-Got pregnant, finally decided wrong timing, had an abortion, cried a lot
-Cried some more
-Celebrated 2 year anniversary with BF : )
-Got a beautiful diamond eternity band from Signed Pieces for my anniversary
-Traveled to lots of Devil''s hockey games -- Go Devils!
-Became an EMT :p
-Thought my cat had cancer, found out he just has idiopathic funky blood work - thank goodness!
-Got head-hunted?!? for a better job starting Monday - back to something in my field! Woohoo!
-Discovered I am much happier off of anti-depressants than on them

Ahhh 2009... my main excitement comes from the fact that I can now say I graduate THIS year.. 2010 always sounded so far away...December is still a long way away but at least I''m in the right year!!

Lost my grandfather
Clinicals, clinicals, and more clinicals
Was only in ONE wedding (dramatic decrease)
Hosted my first Thanksgiving..for 15 people...

Joined a gym for the first time ever
Completed the mud run (10k in mud with obstacles)
Came one year closer to completing grad school

In 2009 I finished my MSED, had my one year anniversary with hubby, custom designed my second piece of jewelry and started my first teaching job in September!

My biggest hope for 2010 is to go on a vacation, this was noticeably absent from 2009

2009 was a busy year...

Jan-April... wedding planning
March... lost DH''s aunt to cancer
April... got married after 10 years together
May... put an offer on a house, but it didn''t work out
Summer... lots of house shopping, and we went on vaca down the Jersey Shore
Sept... put an offer on another house, which got accepted. DH started school full time.
Oct... moved. Found a new kitty the day before we moved, outside the apartment. Got slammed with the swine. My car died

. So we bought a beater car to get us through the winter. So far, so good. Spent my birthday scrubbing the apartment - all in vein, ''cause the landlord demo''ed the whole place when we left.
Nov... Renovations on new home. It was wallpapered - almost every room, including the ceilings. Hosted Thanksgiving dinner, bought ''real'' furniture.
Dec... Renovations continue. Celebrated first Christmas married sans gifts (new doors were our gifts). Hosted Christmas dinner. Celebrated DH doing well in school.

Hmm...let's see

Jan-Feb. - Turned 23 and BF finally met my parents

March - New Zealand!
April-May - My best friend got married and I was MOH
June/July - Moved to NYC and starting working for the summer.
August - Got no-offered from the firm (joys of the economy...) and was devastated for a while. Canceled our post-summer trip to South America.
September/October - Trip to Cincinnati and the South to visit BF's family and go to the beach. Tried to triumph over the Man v. Food Bushido Sushi Challenge and failed (I had to stop at #6 out of 10)
November - Thanksgiving. Super important since Mom and I hadn't had the greatest relationship for a few months before and we patched things up. Had a great trip
December - Rang in 2010!

First half of the year - Residency (work, work, work) BF looses job

Summer - Research

Fall - took speciality boards and started real job - BF finds new job and moves out with me

December - got the news that I passed my speciality boards and therefore became a board certified physician (I found out a month earlier than scheduled)
- engaged 2 weeks later - BF became FI

I would say the second half of the year has been much better than the first.
