My father has worn a colostomy bag since 2003. He won't travel or go anywhere unfamiliar because of it.
I understand that sometimes people are slobs and just can't/won't be bothered to take care of themselves according to society's standards, but I do try to extend some sympathy towards those who just can't help being what we "normal" citizens deem "offensive." It pains me to read these threads sometimes.
ETA: I think everyone has the right to judge and state their opinion about their ick factors. I don't mean to come into this thread and carry on like I'm above that sort of thing, because I'm certainly not. I do think, though, that the meaning of "manners" is to remain sensitive to others' feelings over and above all else. I am definitely guilty of being insensitive more often than not. This thread has reminded me to mind my manners.
