I was searching Google the other day for ring pictures, and came across this picture. It''s a princess cut diamond on a size 5 finger. Take a guess at how many carats the diamond is. I contacted the owner and found out for myself, so I will post that after we get some good guesses.

I'd say 1.75 cts, but my skills are lacking.

My guess is between 1 and 1.2 carats. That's a small finger.

Really hard to tell from a pic, but I''ll play. My guess is around 2 cts.

I''ll play. Let''s say 1.8 (why use round numbers - far too boring!!)

Okay!

The diamond in question is 1.27 carats.

Now another question...what carat size would it take to obtain the same look, on a size 7 ring finger?

Hmm, I'm thinkin' this is either

a) smaller than we think, because the fingers are little, OR
b) bigger than we think, because it's a princess and faces up smaller and maybe has a large table for the carat weight

But I usually over-think things like this, looking for a trick.

So I will go with....0.65-0.7, even though the other half of me thinks it might be something like 2.5.

Whatever it is, it's a really good size for her finger.

ETA: Drat! You posted as I was posting. For a size 7 finger, it would be...1.75ish, I think.

I''m thinking around 2-2.2. Maybe 2.5?

This is a fun game. I think there needs to be a site that shows different sized diamonds on different sized hands. That way people can get an idea of the size they want without having to trick their g/f into trying on rings ;-). (for us who are surprising their g/f)

On a size 5 finger, 6mm (the size of 1.25 ct princess) covers about 38.5% of the finger. On a size 7 finger, 7mm covers about 40%. 7mm princess cut stones weigh about 2ct.

So, the answer is a smidge under 2ct.

Oh Lordy Lordy up in heaven! thank you oh so much for my size 4 finger.

So what do I win? The 1.25 ct or the almost 2ct?

Haha, I guess it could be good or bad to have small hands. Smaller hands gives a smaller diamond!

This is a fun game, someone should throw up another picture so we can guess.

Doctork this game is cracking me up! Please don''t get me wrong, I totally agree that this is a fun game... I love math and converting numbers and all that, especially when it is applied to diamonds! I was just about to find my ring size conversion chart and do the math when IndyGal beat me to it... But what cracks me up is that I am a big nerd (also doctor: PhD, not MD), and all my nerdy PhD friends and I are always laughing about what big nerds we are, and who knew I''d find fellow nerds on a diamond forum! Awesome! I love pricescope! Long live nerds!

PS: there was a conversion chart posted somewhere on here, maybe the one that IndyGal used, that lets you figure out what size ring you need on your sized finger, to get the same look as someone else has on their different sized finger... maybe someone can link it? I don''t know where it is...
