I hate when people say ''Jesus Christ'' as a swear word. Its not nice...

I feel the same way about "G.D." I don''t care who it is (other than complete strangers), I''ll correct them with ALL the viable options you could use instead.

As soon as I read the thread title I *knew* someone woulds ay ''moist''. What is it about that word?

I have no problem with correct terminology for body parts - I guess a biology degree does that. :)

I get irked by a lot of Americanised English.... (runs for cover)!

I don''t understand why you guys say ''math'' instead of maths... it''s maths! Plural, short for mathematics! ;-)

I haaaaate when people say ''ConGRADulations'' instead of ''conGRATulations''.

Ditto to nuclear being pronounced ''nuke-iller'' (it''s nuke-lee-ar) and aluminium being pronounced ''aloominum'' (it''s al-yew-min-yum).

I hate when some people ''arks'' someone instead of ''ask'' them.

I could go on alllll day. :)

ME TOO! It is like nails on a chalkboard to me! UGH!

Everybody has come up with some really good ones, and I feel EXACTLY the same way about most of them (especially "panties" and "moist")!
emotion-41.gif

I did come up with another one that I don't think I've seen listed already: "cremains."
gaah.gif

For the love of God, just call them "ashes"!!!
bangnut1.gif

Oh, and it drives me NUTS when people mix up "then" and "than"!!! I don't know why, but this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine!!!

Vah-jay-jay? Are you kidding me? That''s something I''ve never heard before. How absolutely ridiculous. Oprah? I don''t mean to be rude, but is it a ''cultural'' thing among a certain group of people, or is this pretty widely used as a substitute?
Holly, this is most definitely not a cultural thing. It''s an Oprah thing. This is one of those things she does just to get the entire audience to turn to their neighbor and go ''oooooh, LOL, She almost said it but she didn''t!! I love her.''
20.gif
Oh, it''s definitely an age thing, too. BF''s little sister (a sophomore in college) uses this ALL THE TIME. Ugh. Drives me batty. And she and her friends were talking one day about somebody "swiping their V-card". Yeah, they meant their friend had lost her virginity. It was about the dumbest thing I''d ever heard. Seriously, just say it. That doesn''t fool anybody.

You can''t be serious; but I''ll play along. It is a most unsavory slang term for the female anatomy. Perhaps you''ve never picked up one of the ''grodier'' men''s mags; in which case, I salute you and congratulate you on your obvious class.

It irks me when people use "well" and "good" incorrectly. It's a weird pet peeve.

A co-worker of my says: "conjumbled" (i.e.: "The copier room is so disorganized. Everything is all conjumbled.") I don't know why, but it annoys me.
I really dislike the word "t!ts".
14.gif

When people mispronounce the word "chipotle" (ie.: pronouncing it: chi-pole-tee or chi-pot-il, instead of: chi-pote-lay)... GAH!

When people speak Spanish without even trying to pronounce things correctly...

ETA: This one has been around a while... at least since I was in high school, which was 6 years ago. So idiotic, I agree.. if you're going to talk about it, just say it instead of making yourself sound EVEN more juvenile.

I agree I abhor it when people use words that are sacred to me in vain. I know people often don''t mean any harm from it and many really nice people do but it hurts my heart and my ears.

I hate words used to degrade people by gender and by race etc.

I don''t think I can think of any uglier words than racial slurs. Horrid.

I read an article recently talking about a famous person who uses a certain racial slur repeatedly. I had no idea what the word was referring to or what it meant so I had to look it up to figure it out. It sounded like such a odd nonsense word I looked up the word origin to try to make sense of where it had possibly originated because it was such a strange sounding word to me. Such an ugly and cruel word.

Well, certainly, if we''re casting our vote for the all-time ugliest word award, the "N" word would be front and center. There is NO excuse for anyone, black or white, comic or not, to ever use that word.

Yes racial slurs do win the ugliest word award for sure.

All this talk about a certain word often used unkindly toward women reminds me of an episode of 30Rock where someone calls Tina Fey (her character) that word and they disguise it by someone else yelling "runt" who is looking for a lost kitten that is the runt of the litter.

They have another episode that deals with the issue of an often used racial slur too.

I received the DVDs of 30Rock as a gift and there are some hilarious episodes.

I don''t want to offend anyone, but I hate it when people say "waRsh" instead of "wash" or "Uman" instead of "human." I also hate it when people imitate Lil'' Jon & say "Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" or that Blue Collar Comedy/redneck stuff & say "Get ''er Done." I think both make the speaker sound unintelligent.
